After meeting you.

Maybe you turn out not to like them either. Maybe you both rub each other the wrong way. Maybe it’s a political thing. Maybe you met them at a bad time. Maybe your energies don’t click well with each other. Maybe your idol turns out to be a dick. Maybe you were in a bad mood, and could have put up a better demeanor. Etc, etc, etc.

What would you do, and/or how would you react, if it turned out your idol didn’t like you and/or you both didn’t like each other?

This actually happened to Julie Powell of  “Julie & Julia”. She didn’t meet Julia Child face to face, but Julia heard about her blog and her goal to cook through The Art of French Cooking (524 recipes in 365 days).

Julia was not impressed. Thought Julie didn’t take her book or her hard work seriously. Julie was devastated when she heard this, because she credited Julia Child with saving her life. She had been living a mediocre existence and hit a wall at her Saturn Return, so she set the above goal for herself and held herself accountable to her blog readers as she did it. She never dreamed Julia would disapprove. It took awhile for her to get past this.

wow i actually went to look up the blogs/and what julia wrote about her. She didn’t think Julie was serious about her work and thought she was just doing it for stunts. So i think yeah, it’s just personality clashes. Sadly, Julie thought too much of Julia Child. Should focus more on what she wants to do, not care about what Child’s thinks and go on and keep working, enjoying her work. :/

I’ve actually seen this everywhere, where people just do not clash at all. I dont really have a big idol; i do like some really nice authors, but i enjoy their work and style; but our personalities may clash. And it’s better not to get involved anyway, cause you might see them in a different light if you dont approve of what they do in their personal life… i mean they may have a fetish you think is disgusting, or disapprove (vice versa too) . lol and then, there you go, all that love you enjoyed of their work, tainted. 😛 just an example.

@elisa,

it happened to me with a male astrologer once. I LOVED his writing, but I met him for a reading and we clashed big time! I was in a detached mood and he was very intense that day, maybe a bad day?, and we just didn’t hit it off.

Our energies were off. And I still respect his writing and astrology, but realize that he was a human being.

detached you and his intensity. Omg. not good combo lol  just different moods.

ive been on both where i’m detached and my husband is intense, and where i’m intense, and he’s detached. I”m not paying attention to him or he’s not paying attention to me — to me that’s detached.  And wanting more attention and greedy for attention …intensity. LOL  it can work together, as long as you already know eachother’s character. Otherwise, meeting new people… first impression.. sometimes last.

i know people are just people, so as long as they aren’t pedos, beat their wives, husbands children, do disgusting devious acts, like that, then i’m fine with them LOL  i dont care if they cheat on their wives or husbands, or have addiction problems. People have flaws and faults; because life is complicated. but if they are stealing on purpose other people’s wives/husbands kind of thing i dont like those types. i have my own rules but i’m not blind to failings of people.I have flaws too, so itd be hypocritical.

I love that movie. Julie Powell is a Taurus, Julia Child, a Leo. Two sides of the same coin. Uh, the four sided Fixed coin, I mean.

Taurus vs. Leo?

That’s not a very easy combination. Wow!

I dont have any idols. Not sure what that says about me. Theres people that inspire me, but if they didnt like me, it wouldnt change that. Thats a lot of pressure to put on someone, to make them an idol.

I wouldn’t call mine idols either, but yes, inspirations. But it happens. There are some spiritualists/gurus that I feel that I would clash with, so I prefer to watch them from afar!

Ive learned to seperate the teacher from the teaching and the artist from the art.

I feel like that would be the normal outcome, the not clicking with the idol. It’s a Neptune thing in my mind, the veil drops, big disappointment.

A cousin of mine works at a music venue and says this is the worst part for him–meeting the people who make the music he loves sometimes ruins the music for him. Don’t know how often it happens for him, but it happens.

Haven’t had the experience personally, but really like these responses.

I don’t really have idols. I have had people that I really like and then I get a peek into who they really are and then I’m turned off. If someone doesn’t like me, I really don’t care. I know my worth and It’s not swayed by someone else. I also think we build ideas that have nothing to do with reality. Neptune like Tam said.

The problem with putting people on a pedestal is that there’s almost no way that this person will ever meet up to the standards someone has created of them in their heads.
