Well, I can only speak for myself here. But I can say that Ive enjoyed my time here a lot overall, although there has been some annoying personal issues. I do kind of feel sad, when all levels of astrological understanding are not respected (not speaking about you Elsa), and I admit its prevented me from posting or nurturing existing threads. But that happens in any group and Ive never held it against you Elsa, or the people here that have positive energy. I never wanted to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

I think if I had to give you advice, Id say do the subscription thing. I think it would separate the wheat from the chaff, and youd be compensated which is good.

So is Google asking you to speed it up? What is the impact/cost of having it slow things down? As others have said, it is fast enough for me! What’s the cost/impact of doing nothing?

Still, the idea of locking it down, AND keeping it all accessible sounds great – as long as we can still all get together in some new place. Losing all the bots and spam accounts would be excellent.

Is there a way to start a new forum with the exact same structure as this but leaving the previous forum as a searchable archive? We would be light and free and new! We could keep our anonymity/screen names. I would pay for this. That way the forum could live or die on its own merits, without impacting the blog.

If you locked up the forum but kept it accessible and searchable but did not creat a new forum, people would surely comment more on the blog. I would expect that sooner or later there would come a call for a new forum. By then there might be new and different options….

I love this place you’ve made for us all. Maybe this is a time to restructure it so it better fits the times – and works for the new you too.  Every other structure on earth seems to be restructuring, why not ElsaElsa?

I don’t know the cost.  This is experimental for google and they change their algorithms every second, I’m sure.  But I have to look at this:

Untitled.jpgImage Enlarger

That is “slow” and “moderate” there is no fast / green

But for the true horror, click this and see the blog speed:

https://developers.google.com/…..lsa.com%2F

Generally 90/91 on mobile and 99/100 on desktop (click the tags up top)

then this horror, the forum

https://developers.google.com/…..om%2Fforum

Red / 31 on mobile and barely 60 on desktop

So if I locked the forum and cached all the pages, this would change. But as is, google does index the forum and refer people to it. But I am deemed a slow/moderate site with the weight of this, as shown in the picture.

I wonder if the forum can be fun and funny and helpful again or if people just don’t offer that anymore, or want it. Has all the division killed us on some level.

I watch another forum… like is dying too and well loved for even longer than this one. I hate it because it if does go out, it won’t be replicated.

This last year I did not do the Christmas secret Santa because people have just hardened. Got their ass kicked too many times?

But once the places like this one – heart-centered – seriously, are all shut down, then what?

But here again, we’re back to what I value which… I don’t know. I exist because I grew up with a grandfather (born in 1900) who invited people of all faiths out to the desert to talk about their beliefs.  It meant something. JUPITER.

So is their no Jupiter / abundance?

Maybe I have to just sit on this until Jupiter goes into Aquarius?

I did verify I can make the forum “read only” with one click. I assume it will work.

I just think if people don’t want to post and converse or “conversate” as they say today, then I can preserve what is here and make it (even more) accessible because google does rank by speed.

I will address the paid thing later. I have never wanted to do that but will think it through before I explain.

I think moving the forum might work. I could get a new domain or even move it to astrodispatch? Because a new domain as no ranking. I’d have to think about it.

Lately I’ve had a sense that the energy here is shifting. People who were a steady presence on the forum 3 months, 6 months, a year ago have gone silent or rarely post. I wonder why, too. Maybe they have a lot going on personally, with family or work. Maybe they need to conserve energy at this time, or they feel the need to focus more of their energy on life outside of the Internet. Maybe they sense, like I do, that they don’t quite fit in here like they used to. Or that their contributions are positive or helpful.

I enjoy interacting here and would hate to see this place go. But I’m bracing myself for it because it sounds like, from what you’ve said over the last several months or so, this site is just getting really difficult and expensive to maintain. I don’t know how you do it. I agree with those who suggest a subscription option.

I’m sorry you don’t feel like you fit in. From my perspective, you are core to this place.

Oh wow, thanks! smile I’ve never really thought of myself that way. I do have Uranus in the 11th house, so feeling like somewhat of an outlier in groups is pretty much standard for me.

I do feel like I sort of fit in now, just not as well as before. Maybe it’s because some of the regulars have moved on or gone out of pocket for awhile, and newer people have come to the forefront. As long as I’m wanted and needed here, I’m glad to be here. This is the one place, besides Toastmasters, where I feel like I can freely express myself. Can’t even do that on Facebook because on there, everyone is just talking to their own mirror! (I don’t even mention my late husband much anymore, or show pictures of him, because it just upsets his parents.) Toastmasters is great, but we only meet once a week for an hour and we have an agenda to follow. I have my hands full as the secretary and now we’re all being told to pick up the pace, give more speeches and stuff.

My concern at this time is that I’m making the forum less viable by going off-topic, allowing myself to get negative instead of keeping thing upbeat. I try to throw in fun stuff from Youtube (like videos from channels such as TabiEats) because it’s my way of trying to liven up the place. I have noticed that people are interacting here a lot less, and it bothers me. I’m trying not to be part of the problem.

Sorry this is so wordy!

I want to say that your off-topic deal was a transit thing. It was like this short-lived cheese-off-cracker thing that lasted about a week.

I was really hoping at that time, that you hang in and I was so glad when you did.

From an outside perspective, since persevering through that, you’ve become an amazing poster.

You are now ELITE in my mind.  And this is a good example of what I  mean by “forgiving”.  People have to have the space and time to live and breathe and try and fail.

That was Henry too.  He taught you should assume people mean well up until they’ve shown themselves to be “disagreeable”.

You are never “disagreeable” even if you disagree.

This is why I always say that this a forum for adults. You have to show some level of decorum.

I certainly enjoy the forum. I have started to go to the random thoughts threads more,I enjoy astrology but like the interaction between like minded people more.

What I miss the most about the internet is the chat format and Random thoughts is the closest to it. Elsa you have to do what is in your best interests.

I just want to reiterate, it is not the expense of this forum, though it does cost. It is the risk/work vs reward.

I want to know if forums are dead (or should be)?

Does a place like this have worth and value in 2021 and 2022…

Here is another way to put it: do people still want to read and write?
Or is it an ig / tik tok world?

The privacy thing too. It’s so dear to me but do people care about this now/today/anymore?

Yes. I want to read and write. Again, I can only speak for myself though.

As far as privacy, I dont know Elsa. I appreciate your commitment to it, but if its causing annoyance for you, then its not worth it to me.

Interesting questions. I see a trend online towards vlogging–now everyone wants to start a vlog (video log) channel.

Privacy–I think Google and Facebook have made cyberstalking and airing everyone’s dirty laundry normal. So if anyone wants some semblance of privacy, they’re given side eye. I have family members who want no part of social media due to lack of privacy, and society views them as weirdos. Soon maybe they’ll look like the smart ones.

Sorry, I’m full of thoughts today! Mercury in the 9th house.

People want both, which might be age-dependent. I imagine many of us here are 25 and older. I don’t see it as an absolute or an ultimatum, regarding whether people want to read/write or be inundated with memes.

I’m a read/write person, a major reason why I’m here. I like thoughtful conversations, not quick retorts.

I don’t want to disparage those who prefer the immediacy of IG and such, but I don’t find it immersed with much.

Yes, reading, writing, and privacy are of the utmost importance to me. I don’t use any platform that requires a public name or face, or one that uses a character cap:))

I think the anonymity is what allows for the excellent reading and writing—it can get personal. I just like having the option versus the requirement (thank you!).
