Our temperature went above freezing today around noon.  It hadn’t been above freezing since 8 pm Christmas Eve.

That news isn’t as good as it sounds. We are expecting freezing rain, snow, and sleet overnight and tomorrow. The ground is 21 F. Any rain that hits the will freeze. We hope our power stays on.

Yesterday our neighbor’s phone went out. She walked over and I called in her problem. It was fixed in just a few hours.

We made a grocery run earlier today.  We have a camping stove in the event the power goes out.

i am beginning to like seasonal weather but i still hate long winters. i lived in tropics most of my childhood. so it was just rain or hot. lol still the dark long winters suck but i do like wearing boots and jackets and scarfs, gloves and furry hats. i like the snuggling in the winter and in the summer it’s too hot to snuggle. i like fireplaces and hot chocolate and hot coffee tea, but not the winter colds and flus. yuck. i like being sockless at home but immune system sucks. so socks all the time.

i put bread and some bird food out for the birds, i dont know how they stand it. When it snowed i wondered where they hid. and the ducks, the poor ducks, how do they stand it? i see them in the ponds all the time. i tell my husband yearly that these ducks dont seem to want to fly south. i think everyone we know has had a cold already, or worse, flu.

We had more snow today.  It wasn’t too bad, just about 3 inches of wet snow that will be frozen solid overnight.  Its about 18 degrees here now.

I’ve always liked the seasons, but wish that winter would be a lot shorter.  I don’t like super cold weather when it gets down into the single digits at all.  I never feel well in the winter and unless its a warmer winter, I always get sick with something.

I didn’t put food out today because of the snow.  The wind took my bird feeder down and cracked it a couple of weeks ago and so I’ve just been throwing food on the ground until we can put the new feeder up that I just bought.  It isn’t easy putting the feeder up because it hangs from a branch on a big tree.  I think the birds will be eating on the ground for a little while.

I read that birds hang out in nesting boxes to keep warm in winter.  I have a few nesting boxes and even though there is no wind the boxes are always moving, so I’m sure that’s true.  Some birds burrow on the the ground in brush or nest in pine trees.  When its cold they fluff out their feathers to create a down coat effect.  Supposedly, birds will stand on one leg at a time to prevent their legs from freezing.  I’ve never seen them do that, mostly they hang out on branches, puffed up.

Deer love the pine trees for cover .  Under the big pine tree a doe is resting on the ground.  I know the picture is a little small, but I can’t seem to post it any bigger.

@JoFrance……. weatherman on one of the Big Tv stations in St.Louis says the Arctic Blast is gonna be “over” in these parts for the next week. He didn’t promise anything beyond his 7-day forecast.

Loved the Deer pic. Out in the country areas around here, we have Cedar trees. Eastern Red Cedar, I think. Birds love them, and I’m pretty sure the deer does too!

I can’t believe I forgot to make a batch of Hot Cocoa (powder)! Back in the 1970’s (when I was a teenager) Mom used to make it in one of the plastic 1-gallon ice cream buckets. If I remember correctly….. it was powdered milk, powdered sugar (confectioners, I think) , Hershey’s powdered cocoa. Hmmm…… I’m gonna have to go and look it up now!! Mouth is watering….. embarassed

I’m sick of these Nor’easters.   We’re only supposed to get about 3 inches here in NJ, but I’m more worried about the wind.  I just got my power back last week after spending 4 days in a hotel.  I lost 3 BIG trees and one more will fall any day now.  I lost the entire contents of my refrigerator too.  I have an empty freezer now in case we lose power again.  Blah.

I think this storm will be much worse for you, Allie120.  You’ll probably get more snow and wind.

We received about 3-4 Inches out here in the rural areas on Sunday. Started out as Flurries and switched to big flakes shortly before Noon, probably a few hours before. Mostly a nice slow but steady pace, lasted all day long. I probably should have taken a pic, but Instead wrote a note on the calendar.

Oh no!  Another Nor’easter between tomorrow and Wednesday.  I am so worn out!  I feel like I’m always in survival mode.  I have to save pots of water for drinking and fill up the bathtub so I can flush toilets if the power goes out.  Geez.  I’m sick of this.  The power company is still working on fixing the lines from the last storm.
