I think the first thing to do is understand which house Lilith is in! If Lilith is squaring your Ascendant from, say, the 4th house, then it's likely that the way that you present yourself to other people belies a wild intensity and possibly wounded nature that is invisible to everyone except those closest to you. 

The idea is that the expression of your Lilith nature (which is partially determined by house!) holds a fundamental tension with the way you carry yourself in the world.
