Hi! Anyone know what the astrological indicators for philanthropy are?

Is it Sagittarius and 9th house?

Anything else?

I also wondered about whether in some instances it could be 8th house and "other people's money" if you were directing philanthropy and not just giving your own money to charity?

Any ideas appreciated, trying for the big astrological picture. 🙂

Very thought-provoking question, Crackers!

I concur with 9th house but there could be many other things as well. I would also look at the 11th house since that involves groups, coordination of groups and humanitarian causes (ruled by Aquarius) Particularly if Sun, Jupiter, and/or Uranus are placed there. 12th, despite its terrible reputation, also has a benevolent appreciation for charity/institutions --so if one should have Venus/Jupiter transits going there, you can expect to feel altruistic in that regards. (Anonymous giving? Donations to a hospital?)

A well-aspected Uranus in the 8th may not want to receive an inheritance if doesn't benefit mankind in someway. Especially since they go against the grain and status quo, valuing their contribution to the world as humanitarians, innovators, etc.

A confident (unafflicted) Saturn in the 2nd values frugality and ass-kickingly hard work (squeezing lemonade from rocks) and creating something of lasting value. *If* it is the ruler of the 5th house, may denote that the Saturn may impress these values to their children and not give them an inheritance for those reasons. They may bequeath their life-earnings to a charity in their will, esp. in something that will go onto create lasting value--such as micro-loans to the impoverished to build their own empire! This individual will value self-reliance and pass on these values to their heirs. Warren Buffett is a good example of this. He has been outspoken about not spoiling his heirs and encouraging them to tie up their own bootstraps like he had to. The primary reason he is donating his entire fortune to a variety of charities when he passes on.

Truly. There could be any number of reasons. It's all on how those aspects are blended and expressed in the individual. smiley

Thanks for your ideas, Shannon and K@. Much there for me to think about.
I have MC, Jupiter and Venus in the 9th house,a stellium in the 8th, and Mercury/Saturn in Aquarius (and n. node in the 12th.)
My question has come up because I seem to have good fortune when I work with a mind toward philanthropy (but efforts on my own behalf tend not to blossom so much in the long run!). I've been looking for the "why" for this in my chart and I'm finding some clues!

Yup! That 12th house NN alone will do it. Serve or suffer! Especially with Saturn sitting in the 12th is driving that message home -- time to roll up those sleeves and deal with others in that way. Your riches lie in not obtaining wealth but giving it away. Especially since Aquarius, the humanitarian, is running the show! wink I have a friend who has the same and they have a PACKED 2nd house so working towards gaining possessions but in the long-run, are still unhappy bc they haven't realized their truest calling. To work with the disenfranchised, traumatized and ailing. I'm waiting for them to realize this. I've given nudges but peeps will realize on their own timetable, not mine.

That packed 9th house is encouraging you to travel, write, deal with the poor/traumatized in foreign countries. You may be called to do lots and lots of mission trips? LOL

On a further note, Warren Buffett's 2nd house house cusp is in Aquarius. Which is why he is so philanthropic and created innovative approaches to handling money. His Ascendant is Sag with Cap Saturn widely conjunct it and in opposition to Jupiter in the 7th...encouraging him to make those all those Sag dreams a concrete reality. Plus his Venus conjunct MC -hello career of prosperity and popularity. Neptune conjunct Sun in 8th along super-caring Ceres in larger than life Leo makes him an uber-idealist when it comes to sharing resources as well as very intuitive, even psychic on financial matters. (He has been on record bashing other bazillionaires for not allowing their taxes to be raised.) His reputation is known for his shrewd instincts and encouraging others to give back-- "git 'r done!" wink
