Rings of Truth - Smells like a Lie

It used to be said that this or that had the "ring of truth". I was thinking about this; virtually nothing rings true, today.  My perception of course.

I wondered how to describe the inverse of "rings of truth". I came up with "smells like  a lie".

I have been acutely aware of numerous "*mistakes of my intellect" for some years now.  Recently, the truth... the actual truth that I can see has come at me like a freight train.

I'm glad for this. It's onerous to a degree but there is a huge upside, in that life has never been more interesting that it is today.

Here are some posts on this.

Look around out there. Do you see anything that has the ring of truth? Or does our whole world smell like a lie?

@libra-noir Yes, I smell it and see it.

But I came across a quote, something along the lines, it's easier for people believe a lie then it is to deal with the truth.

I'm finding this to be the case... but that doesn't mean it will continue to be the case. But it might.

@elsa I think lies hold society together and that’s the valid fear in exposing the truth. Shared delusion creates cohesion, the truth is chaotic.

I won't be surprised to see a new wave of young Luddites happening, in a quest to find what is actually "true." We can still opt out ... more or less. How long until you can't?

Social media news algorithms have an agenda to keep your attention. You are being manipulated!

We must take control of our own attention, and the best way to do that is to leave, and pursue real life, as lived by real humans.

Then again -- with three planets in the 7th house -- I'm always trying to find myself through other people.

@shortpants  You are correct.  The documentary "Social Dilemma" made the point very succinctly that WE are the product.  We are being manipulated and marketed as any product would be, except that as human capital, they also control our activities, our votes, and our beliefs to a very great extent.  This is why our country is more polarized than ever before.  They selectively control what news we are fed.  Only way to deprogram ourselves is to deplug....step away.

Mostly lies. I'm sometimes hesitant to trust myself on some things because I know I've been conditioned over my 40 years. But I do know truth when I see it. Or should I say, feel it.

The thing is, that lies are not new. Control is not new. In the past, both force and lies have been used to control the masses. We still have a bit of both, but it’s a lot easier for the controllers to control through deception than through force and social media and media are great tools for that.

And all one has to do to suss that out is see where control is being gained. The lies wil NEVER be about you having responsibility and control over your own life. They are always always always going to be about the individual giving up some sort of personal power through fear usually.

In my opinion.....The most powerful form of deceit is self deceit/delusion. Most people would prefer to live in a comfortable lie more than an uncomfortable truth.
