Wash their ears out!! Poor kitty 🙁 She doesn't come near me and if I reach inside her cat tower to pet her, she literally closes her ears. It sucks when the stuff that's for your pets own good feels like abuse to them
@rapunzelsoldierfish Aw, have you explained to her? It sounds crazy but I talk to my dogs and I do think they understand me sometimes when I reason with them.
@libra-noir Aww yeah I believe they can understand us - definitely things like tone of voice, and of course a good handful of words. I think next time I need to do this, I will talk to her more like how I would to a kid. For now mostly I would just say "I'm sorry, Daisy" over and over, lol

So a few years ago I started a thread here about making my way back to my faith. I'm Catholic. It was such a help to talk about it here. Fast forward to today. I've baptized my children and they are preparing to receive their sacraments. Happiness abounds.
We are surrounded by Protestants. People we call friends. They are part of a community we belong to. My daughter was excited about getting baptized and told a group of her friends that she had and that she's Catholic. Three of them told her Catholics aren't Christians. No one else stood up for her. She told this to me with tears in her eyes.
Now I have to wonder what these people, who I consider friends, think of me. I don't care, truly, but I like friends. I don't want something this insane to cause a problem. But they've taught their children animosity toward our church, and they vomited it at my daughter. Now I could defend our faith against all of their churches quite easily, but that's not something I ever planned, nor wanted to do. So I told my daughter to not talk about it, that it's grown up stuff, and if it comes up again to tell me. I figure at that point I'll have to say something.
I never knew, until a few years ago, that Protestants were like this.
Just needed to vent.
@dolce You never know. Maybe the kids misinterpreted something an adult said and repeated their misunderstanding.
@libra-noir that's certainly a possibility. Although the words "Catholics aren't Christians" came out of their mouths. When she asked what they were then, they told her "something else," which means that they just don't know what they are talking about and are repeating something. I'm fully prepared to let it go for the good of everyone provided it doesn't keep happening.
If it's any consolation, there's also a wide range of contention within the various Protestant denominations, some of which consider other Protestant denominations to be "not Christians" for various reasons.
@warped Thanks Warped, it does a little. Isn't it funny? All of these people purport to follow Christ, say that that's the requirement to be a Christian, and then tell fellow Christ followers they're fakes. Weird world.
@dolce yeah, these people need to get back to the basics and just read the gospels. No more division, just the word. Sorry to hear you are going through this. I know it’s harder when children are involved. Hopefully it is just a passing thing!
@rapunzelsoldierfish Thank you! Focusing on the word would prohibit this, but even that is open to so many interpretations. Makes my head spin!
I hope so too. I truly get along well with these people but we have to avoid "denomination talk" beyond the superficial.
@dolce they also dump on Mary but who was the first Christian? Mary was the first person was believe in Christ. She consented!
I'm sorry you and your kids have to deal with this but it's part of it, I'm sure you know! You're going to be persecuted!
@elsa They do so much that baffles me! I have learned a lot about this over the last few years. Every time something like this happens I have been trying to remember that it comes with the territory, but ugh!! From friends? Like come on.
I'm also trying to remember that good can come from it. My kids are excited when they meet fellow Catholics. It's kind of tribal and I don't mind it tbh.
@dolce I don't know where you live, but if you're in the South (and this may hold for other places), people will give you shit, but if you stick to your convictions they will come to accept and appreciate you... and eventually respect you as well.
@elsa Very true. I'm in the mid Atlantic and that is true here too. Luckily this is not something I care to compromise on at all so it won't be hard in that sense 👍
