I bought raw milk for the first time the other day. They sell it at the Agway (other places, too, I’m sure), but I go to Agway frequently for bird seed and propane. So I decided to get some, just a half gallon. My husband can try it if he wants but sometimes he’s not into stuff, so he has his regular milk. I am using the raw for my protein mix.

I’ve had it before. When I was a kid, I spent a few summers on my uncle’s farm with my cousin. It was far from town, she couldn’t drive, so when we needed milk we milked the cow and just strained the stuff (lol hay and stuff got in it because it was just one cow and we hand milked her), and drank it.

Oh, edit to add that my aunt and uncle were out of town at some big livestock show where my uncle was a judge, so it was just us two girls out on the farm. So many good times.

@allie120

That's all we drink. We have a local farm we go to buy it. It's so much better tasting than store bought. I love the cream on top.  Yum.

@jana This is from a farm in our state, but like an hour away. But the Agway is close (next town). There is a huge dairy farm in that town but it’s 100% commercial. There’s another dairy farm on the way to the grandkids but I saw this first.

It’s good to have resources or know where to get them!

@allie120 I am raw milk curious... I have a friend who gets it from a farmer for her kids, but I've never tried it. I live close to a corner store that sells Amish, grass fed dairy, with zero antibiotics or added hormones. It's amazing and has cream on top, but it doesn't have the benefits (or risks) of being raw. I get probiotics from plenty of other sources I suppose.

@cocopeaches I wonder where the raw milk risks came from? I had heard that, too before. Maybe Big Dairy industry? Some places prohibit its sale. If the cows are healthy, the place they love is clean (clean as far as cows go), the method of milking, bottling, storage is safe and clean, then there’s no higher risk.

But I like that you’re supporting the Amish and can get no antibiotics, added hormones milk.

Over the summer we sometimes picked up filets from the farmers market in town, from a farm not farm from me. So good!

I'm up late. The cat is meowing at me. It's time for her bedtime treats that I give her when I go to bed!! Insistent, she is.
