Since this virus will likely hit ALL of us at some point, and some of us won’t survive it:

Would be a good idea if maybe everyone got their affairs in order, just in case? Get a will, advance directives, etc. prepared quickly, since apparently this virus kills people fast?

Let me think. My state’s first case was March 6th. I haven’t seen my daughter and her child since then. But it was initially because of the flu my husband brought home from 250 miles away.

Both my husband and I are retired and have limited outside contacts. My monthly alumni lunch for March 20th was cancelled. The governor closed all in-house dining restaurants on the 18th.  My husband cancelled his March 10th doctor’s annual appointment because he had the flu. He cancelled the makeup appointment on March 25th because the governor requested slow downs on visits. His next make up is June 16th.

My hair appointment has been cancelled, the governor has closed all close contact businesses.

I have stopped paying bills in person.

For years, I have rarely used my hand to open public doors. I use my body, or when necessary, use my sleeve to cover my hand.

Last Monday, I was surprised to find my feedstore was curbside service only. I bought enough horse feed for 2 months.

Another change. We bought an oximeter. We test our percent blood oxygen twice daily. Temperature, too. A drop in blood oxygen is a complication of the virus as it hits the lungs. We are in that age group.

I have one! The other day, I was nervous that I had contracted the virus because my temperature had risen to 99, and I felt a bit feverish. But my oxygen saturation has remained at 98%, which is normal for me. Whew. Now my temp is back to normal.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll keep my eye on that as well. Work requires me to check and record my temp every morning before work anyway.

Wim Hof teaches this breathing technique that I may start practicing.

(Mom recommended lung exercises on her blog, and I’ve seen nurses do this as well. Especially if you get the virus and begin to develop complications, lung exercises could save your life!)

Truth be told, I haven’t made any changes at all.

ETA: oops. The only change is that I have more food on hand.

I almost immediately started using facial tissues to blow my nose. I bought 4 boxes.  I had been using cheaper toilet paper. Though, I must admit I still keep a roll on my bed post. It fits so nicely.

I have started using cloth (soft cotton) kerchiefs to blow my nose. I keep one by my desk, one by my pillow, one by the recliner…

My dad used them (his, not mine) his whole life and as far as I know still does.

I still use tissues or TP at work (grocery) though, because most people would not understand cloth kerchiefs and would be grossed out and/or would freak out at “the germs/virus”.

I’ve lost nearly 10 pounds because I no longer eat fast food and also have to ration out how much I eat so it lasts.

By rationing, I mean my food at home, between trips to the grocery store.

What helped me was to find healthy foods, especially canned foods! 1287_gif
