I think my landlord and her fiance have cancelled their honeymoon trip. frown

Her fiance also has some important work meeting tomorrow. Not sure if his job will be affected (he inspects chicken). If the production of chicken shuts down……uh oh.

I’m considering the possibility of having to source food outside the grocery store, in case the supply chain breaks (trucks stop rolling, stores close, plants shut down).

Everything here is pretty normal. Stores are restocking… normal doctor visits.
My daughter said it’s like pandemonium in Colorado.

This is weird but I’m kind of excited. I’m working from home, delivering my classes with videos and loving using new technologies. My husband is finally taking it seriously (Taurus Moon lolo) and we are thinking about how we will be making permanent changes in our retirement plan. We feel this is a dry run for more difficult times ahead and need to make some long-term adjustments.

Aldi had toilet paper!! I couldn’t believe it!! LOL. I forgot to check for disinfecting wipes, but I have Lysol spray and we have plenty of bleach and rubbing alcohol at the house.

The truck came this morning. So that’s the secret. If you’re looking for things that normally fly off the shelves, better go when they first open.

My life is on Zoom now –

my morning yoga class: the teachers broadcast from their homes

my Triangles group meditation on Mondays

my local environmental board’s twice monthly meetings

my city board meeting

plus, my sisters and I will get together to chat soon on Zoom

Im thinking about having a zoom dinner party: everyone logs on with their iPad on the dinner table and we can have some semblance of group connection

zoom is free for individual use, so think about it!

My agency has moved to a work from home process with a rotating skeleton crew coming in the office. Today’s my first day in the office since Monday. I have to say I have really enjoyed working from home. Fitting, as I have a 10th house Moon and it was just conjuncted by Mercury this week. If this situation goes on for a long time, at least I will like that aspect of it. I was able to get a lot of housework done yesterday. Other aspects, I’m not crazy about…too many people in the parks since so many businesses are closed, and customer service interactions are awkward. Trying to limit those and be happy with hermit mode. Some people are talking about video chat, and I did a guided meditation class on Zoom recently. Unfortunately, I really dislike video chat and I’d prefer to not communicate at all. I probably won’t be doing that class again. But it helps that I have a friend staying with me right now. Also she just got a job and has plans for a specific apartment near the job, so I’m happy for her.

I checked my Roth IRA and 401K and yeah, they’re tanking. I had recently, unrelated to the virus, requested to cut my 401K contributions in half, and I’m really glad I did that now. The IRA isn’t through work and isn’t an automatic contribution and I’ll be withholding from adding to it for a while, I’m sure. My state pension is alright, thankfully. I’ve realized that with the economic situation, it’s best to stay with the secure job I have, and I shouldn’t even consider taking another position with lower salary even if the job seems better in other ways. A job change right now seems like a bad idea in general, but I may resume my search when the chaos subsides.

At the moment I have Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all in the 9th house, so I’m in pretty good spirits right now and have a positive outlook despite everything. I know that not everyone has that luxury though and I really feel for the people who are suffering from this, economically, emotionally, and healthwise.

Im not living in fear, but Im also not being arrogant about the whole thing. Im not isolating because Im afraid, Im isolating because its the responsible thing to do. So thats a new way of being, because my sense of responsibility is extending beyond my personal bubble, which I think is probably how Im supposed to approach life anyway.

I have recently learned that COVID-19 enters cells via the ACE-2 receptor. I am currently on a BP medication which increases the ACE-2 protein approx 3-5 times. It is hypothesised that people like myself, are more susceptible to acquiring severe/fatal COVID.

Consequently, I am limiting my exposure to people, and have cancelled my much loved pampering appointments.

The current medical advice is to continue these meds until concrete, scientific research proves otherwise. I am therefore continuing my meds, as it is life threatening for anyone to suddenly stop them.

This information is easily found by googling “ ARB’s and ACE inhibitors, corona virus”. Make sure you only visit reputable health links eg. American cardiology etc.

I started cutting my own hair again today. I work in a grocery store so I am a walking ticking bomb. Don’t want to risk contaminating my hairdresser, so I cancelled my appointment.

I have REALLY short hair (think Annie Lennox back in the day) so it’s a challenge! But I did it previously for a number of years when I had no income. Relearning the do’s and don’ts!

I cancelled my non essential appointments too, aesthetic stuff.

We finally got the OK to work from home, it was about time. I’ve been in limbo for 2 weeks, while they were deciding who to cut and who to let continue from home. It was a very close call for me. At first I was told one thing, then it changed. Even now, I don’t feel secure for a second. Any day, they can change their mind and make further cuts, depends on how it all unfolds. Living day to day and trying to not spend too much just in case.

That being said, I think I do need to buy a more comfortable chair for my ‘home office’ because sitting on a hard kitchen chair 8 hours a day is a pain in the a—, literally.

Most stores are closed here, except non essentials like grocery and drug stores, the supply store, and most restaurants are only doing take-out or home delivery, including coffee shops. My neighbourhood grocer put a 2 item limit per person policy. I live in a semi-commercial area near city center. There’s still people out and about though, running errands, walking their dogs, even see some people jogging, and kids on bikes and scooters.

I was talking to my sister on the phone earlier. Both her and her husband are working from home, company orders, but so are their 2 kids… a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old… she is struggling to keep up the demands of her job plus take care of the kids who are bored and misbehaving and miss their grandparents. She worries her position is on the line too, the company keeps making cuts. I feel for her.

I am trying to balance my time reading the news with time spent reading inspirational stuff. Usually I get caught up in the inspirational stuff, which is great!  You may have seen the piece below because it went viral – but many reposted with their own edits, claiming authorship etc. At the bottom is a link to the author’s blog, a good one.

IN THE TIME OF PANDEMIC

And the people stayed home. And they read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And they listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live, and they healed the earth fully, as they had been healed.    Kitty O’Meara – March 16, 2020

Kitty O’Meara says, “I saw the maps that showed such great reduction in the pollution over China, and then the clearing moved over Europe; I hope it’s happening here in my country, too…and I thought what good could come from a time of such suffering. Then, the Spirit knocked me upside the head, and I cobbled out the poem and it kind of spun out of my control…another opportunity for self-awareness! I am so blessedly happy the small words have touched hearts and soothed. Gentle peace to you and be well.”

Kitty says that her work as a writer, spiritual director and chaplain influences her writing.

In my jurisdiction, a holograph will is legal and requires no lawyer or witnesses, so that’s what I’ve been doing since falling on hard times (a good two decades now). Last I updated it was 5 years ago. Today, I am re-writing it to account for the new realities we are swimming in. Gotta be ready, because if/when this virus strikes, you go fast.

Looks like my county went into an unofficial lockdown tonight.

Good thing I just bought a bunch of groceries! I had a feeling I needed to stock up for two weeks.

Basically, hospital employees and county officials agreed to urge all residents to stay home for 14 days. No one takes that stuff seriously around here. A local factory had a positive COVID-19 case. Their response was to shut down the factory–for the weekend. They will disinfect the building and reopen for business on Monday.

I just took my mom’s copies of The Tightwad Gazette out of mothballs. 😆  She gave me a huge binder of the newsletters she had saved from the 90’s, and I stuck it in the closet. Now it’s cracked open and getting read.
