Hope this forum continues for a long time. It is definitely a unique place. I’ve learned so much in the time I’ve been here.
Realising it costs money and takes some work to keep it going. Hadn’t really appreciated that before.

Thanks. I was talking to Jilly about this. I remember clicking on ads on sites to support them… years ago.
Then came ad blockers and I used them of course. They’re pretty effective. I, too, forgot that websites needed revenue. I get my revenue by working – consultations, teaching classes and selling reports. And that’s cool.
But then they start charging subscriptions for everything and routinely, regularly increasing the cost. I charge the same price to consult as I did fifteen years ago.
So I have to make this stuff up, somehow. Jilly said, she also used to click on ads…
“But then we all became entitled,” I said. She agreed. We have gotten everything free from facebook and such, not realizing just how dearly it has cost us. But we’re realizing now.
There is a little craigslist type deal here – local. I used the living shit out of it but never clicked an ad or paid a cent. I am out of that mindset now. I want the mom and pops to survive.
There is a real person here, satori too and also anonymoushermit at this time. We write and share our knowledge. We are machines spitting up platitudes or cutting and pasting.
You just don’t want to burden a person who is already working for you, for no pay, never mind they’ve keep it up for nearly two decades. Help me keep this place not only going, but thriving. Because that’s what it wants to do at this time. Just scroll down and look at the numbers… the record number of people on the site has been broken several times in the last two weeks and people are traveling / busy right now.
January will be great.

I have not really considered this. I like my prices. I’m going to try other remedies first.
I just invested in fixing the astrodispatch. I put ads on it and will try to grow it though, I’m pretty sure the days when my idea was hatched, have passed. That was all about astrologers working together – all boats rise. I didn’t I would rise their boat and they’d turn around and knife me, lol.
But I wonder if there might be some sensible people out there. These two site are well regarded (as I said elsewhere). A link from this site will pull your site from obscurity. So maybe I can get something going with that.
There are forums that charge small amounts to post. Like $2 a month or something. I am not interested in this but also won’t rule it out. You could still read for free.
Really, I just hope the community here just pitches in. All the ways I mentions. Threads with clear titles. Links if you can…
If there is traffic and someone buys a report… well I can piece it together as I always have. But as you can see, I am having to try new things now. Onward and upward! 🙂

I think raising prices would be understandable, but I agree with you that its more of a last resort.
I’ve always visited lots of tech web sites and they all had a pay area where you could get more than what is available to the general public. If you joined, you got access to things like seminars and cool software utilities. Maybe something like this can work for you.
You could have a special access area where people pay for something more. It might be a special video you do for your subscribers once a month, for example, or Astrology training. That way, your site is still open to anyone and if they like what they see on the forum, they can join for a year.

I just posted a lengthy response and it didn’t take. Link expired? okay. LOL
Anyway, I’ve thought a lot about this and all I will say is I’ve been here for 7 years. I looked up today–exact Saturn square to the day I joined the forum. For the most part, I’ve experienced this forum as an uplifting, supportive place during some very dark and challenging times. I want this to continue. We’ve also had a lot of fun here! I remember Tarot Hours, Secret Santa, thread drives, and the creator of the shiny chicken gif.
Lately, I’ve felt a bit unsafe posting here because my threads get derailed (I’ve also derailed others’ thread too, not gonna lie) and I’ve been accused of being overly sensitive, though I think that person is no longer here. Plus some of the discussions here have gotten beyond a little heated (last night I expected a good intellectual duel on the Scorpio thread, not bloodshed, what the hell happened?!)
ANYHOO…..Jupiter’s in Sagittarius now and we have a lot of new people, yay! Moving forward I think my part is to help keep this place positive and a safe environment for regulars and newcomers alike to discuss and learn more about astrology. That’s what we’re all here for, isn’t it?

Same here-its been overwhelmingly positive for me here. Theres been a few occasions where I felt really uncomfortable here, but hey, shit happens. Not everyone that posts here is healthy and you can tell by how they take responsibility for their output. Some people are just hurt and they feel this is a safe place to vent. Its cool until they bite the hands that feed them.
But I think its amazing that there are the majority that are healthy, loving and supportive. People that want to grow and enhance their lives through astrology. I know for me, I literally have noone in my personal life that is into astrology. I probably wouldve given up on it, if it weren’t for this forum. So, thank you everyone and Elsa for that.

I may be wrong but I’ve been here a long time and it seems like at least every couple of years someone shows up and starts a Scorpio meltdown for shits and giggles. I’m not sure if it’s the same person or not. Another one of the threads was about Scorpio Moons or something like that.

I’ve had nothing but positive experiences on here & enjoy learning and talking astrology. I think it’s cool that everyone cares so much about a positive environment.

We’re getting a bunch of spam sign ups at the moment. I think this will settle out. It does not pose a threat.
There are still some small items pending in regards to the update of the forum. The guy working on it took off for the holidays… through January 3rd. I guess he’ll catch up in the next week or so.

I’m new here but I like that the hostess of the forum is involved in the discussions. It’s nice to feel like a real astrologer is keeping the information accurate.
I have been on astrodienst forum for years and its so huge. I like the close knit feel of this forum. Not that I’m not loving astro they are great but this is a nice change of pace.
I don’t visit here every day but i will try to keep up with threads. This is a fun place.

The last kink on the forum upgrade was resolved overnight. I am now “pruning” the database. I’m deleting threads with titles that are non-descriptive, but nothing that is iconic around here, hopefully.
Google is now really indexing this site, back seven years of so. This means you can search the site and find all kinds of stuff.
Also, try checking out what other people are viewing (link at bottom of forum). It’s pretty amazing. 🙂
Bottom line, I’ve invested in the forum… invested more into the forum. So it’s not going anywhere. 🙂
Thanks for your patience!
