Has anyone seen, "The Bear" on Hulu? I really liked this show. A LOT. I have a lot of company with this but there are a lot of people who absolutely hate it. It's easy to see why!
The show is about a restaurant; there are some Chicago Italians in there. They are loud and they fight, constantly. But I had three Italian brothers from Chicago as friends when I was a teenager. They protected me like nobodies business. They also feuded, constantly, just like in this show.
But aside from that, the show is quite fresh. It's original and it's not saddled down by all the current crap that dogs everything creative at this time... at least not yet!
The characters are uneven in a good way. Each one is interesting in their own right. Their interactions make you feel something.
With all this said, if you can't get beyond the jarring abrasiveness, you'll probably have to pass but if you can... you will not be disappointed.
I particularly liked the end of the season which came as a total shock. If you do decide to watch this, don't read spoilers. It's not often you can find something to watch that is truly unpredictable.
I particularly like these two actors together. This also sets up the premise of the show.
Hah! I just thought to send this to an Italian client from Chicago. Big family. She's the one who calls me up to complain her father wants to put pork in the braciole, which is a dish featured in this show. She literally went over to her dad's house and took the pork out of his freezer so he could not mess up the dinner.
"We always put pork in the braciole!"
"We do not! You don't put pork in braciole! What's da matter with you!"
Italians of people who have worked in restaurants will like this...or have flashbacks. You'll have to watch to find out which!
I really, really want to see this! As someone who was formerly in the industry in Chicago, it's gotten rave reviews from other people who know about it. Very much looking forward to it. Also, I love the main actor! 😍
Its the best thing I've seen in a long time. You do have to adapt to the fast talking, and it's very loud. Some people won't want to. The reviews are sky high or low. Just stick with it. There are only 8 short episodes.
Darn I don't have hulu or I'd watch this with my husband. His family can be like you described. All from Philly after they got here from Italy. They drive me insane but in a good way 😆 So I appreciate shows like this.
LOVE IT. I really don't want to spoil it for others... but it's just great. I couldn't wait for my husband to watch it with me, so I'll watch it again when he's ready. I asked a chef friend if he watched it, and he said it was triggering for him. For me this is the best thing since Chef's Table. Makes me want to open a restaurant! Enjoyed learning new things from this show. The actors remind me of a lot of real people, and the set design is fantastic. The artsy cinematography reminds me of early 2000's. Oh, and I still have a couple more episodes to watch!
