Quick question to people out here:
This phrase is stuck in my mind - "Hurt people, hurt people".
What's your opinion on this? Hard yes? Hard no? Notable exceptions that come to mind?

(Sorry for poor wording of the topic title)

In my experience, no. I've been hurt a lot by people, and I could never hurt somebody else knowing how it feels. 🙂

@plutolover thanks! I think in similar lines too....once I got kicked in the head, I was a lot more mindful of my own actions..

I think the statement is true to a degree. But don't lose sight of the fact there are a good number of people who get off on hurting people. It's not only intentional but fun for them.

I believe the statement is true, and its why empathy is so important, because we're all hurt people at the end of the day.

I wanted to add that there are some people for whom empathy is wasted on so you have to be discriminating e.g., people who's true self won't realise in this incarnation.

A lot of people are hurt in so many ways. Most of us keep on smiling no matter what has happened. Time does heal.

Seems true in many cases of abuse repeating in families over generations.  But were all who hurt others once victims themselves, or does their sadism originate elsewhere?
