I thought Vermont would be further up with the rest of the New England states.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, the score rank shows which states have the most psychopathic people.  The lower the score, the more psychopaths.

Look who's number 1 - District of Columbia.  ?  Its not a state, but that makes sense.

My state, NJ, made the top 10.  I'm definitely not surprised.

I'm surprised about WY being so high.

I am surprised AZ is as high as it is and that TN is as low as it is.

I also think about the culture shock of going from a high-ranked state to a low one or vice-versa.

@elsa I was surprised about WY too.  NJ can't be better than them, but then again, I've never been to WY.  I haven't been to TN in 30 years and back then it was pretty laid back.

Its interesting that the most psychopathic states are mostly in the Northeast/Mid Atlantic states.

@jofrance I'm hoping wyotess weighs in. I've been there. You can drive 95 miles an hour there and cops just way.  I know this because I got stopped going 95 and the cop explained. He also warned me about Colorado.

Then when you get to Colorado, they have a big sign saying that the speed limit is enforced in Colorado!!

I noticed that, too! Not sure what that’s about. Are people more closed off? Are there more regulations to follow? The states are smaller and more densely populated? Is it the weather?

Down here in the South, there are areas with more rules and regulations, or they’re more crowded than rural areas.  But for the most part, people do WTF they want. I lived in the sticks once and there is no garbage pickup. You just pick a spot in your yard for your burn pile, throw your trash in it, and light ‘er up. ? ?

I’ve seen mattresses go on one of those piles. One of the neighbors even threw their dead cat on theirs. EWWW. ? (Not sure if that makes them a psychopath—or incredibly lazy seeing as they didn’t even dig a hole to bury it properly.) One time, my sister saw a big snake hanging out in her burn pile and went for her 12-gauge.

It’s interesting seeing the MSM paint the southern states as full of psychopaths—and yet we have the lowest scores. I’m thinking it’s all the open space. ?

Wow, so the term "Mainiacs" isn't just a joke!  DC and all the elite enclaves, makes sense.  But WY and TN --?  What could the common denominator be?

@warped Well, TN is very low (48) and WY is very high (8) so I don't know there is commonality. I just would think TN would be higher... middle of the pack?  And I would expect WY to be lower, if for no other reason, the state does not attract victims!

Seriously. The climate; wind and cold, is intense there. I feel people who live there are rugged. I don't see the appeal for a psychopath.

@elsa

The article did say WY had smallest sample so that could've thrown it off.  But I'd expect TN to be closer to the middle due to the Nashville music industry.
