I haven't logged in to the site in ages, but I did today and I am happy to see this thread. I stopped coming quite a while ago because of the toxicity so I am very glad to read this and see what you have done, Elsa. I hope it works. I will be putting my toe back in the water, gingerly... It is a shame we can't talk about these issues intelligently together - this place would be a great facilitator of insights about other/opposing points of view - but I understand the new world of bots and the like and see it is not at all possible right now.

Maybe this is the essence of the Saturn Uranus square and when that moves on it will be safe again to broaden the conversation.

Ive stepped away from astrology and social media for some time. I was drawn back to this site perhaps because of this post. The dichotomy in the world is making it hard to one relate to others. If your opinion differs from others you get attacked. Ive been almost scarred to respond to anything.  I havent been active much here and soon after joining I think I had to hang it up. You were one who helped me navigate a rough transit and I am thankful for that. I can only imagine the topics that have been brought up and derailed.  I keep telling myself forums and social media is only reading peoples thoughts. Just wanted to say thanks

I have steered clear of the forums lately do to the political leanings allowed here. Years ago if one had a liberal stance on here it was not allowed. I have not said anything because after all, it is YOUR forum to run as you see fit.

I never thought of this site as being toxic in anyway and I think the people here are great no matter what they say.  I welcome all opinions and I don't care what your politics are.  I might not like what you have to say but so what.  I think its great you have the right to say it.

Anyway, I think we need a place to share daily stuff.  Its a community thing, but without deeper subjects. Watcha Doin.  Someone had a post like that here once, I can't find it, but I'm doing another one.

@jofrance  the problem with this is people used Random Thoughts to do drive-by shootings and bombings and dumping on people or groups of. So if there is a thread like that, I will delete posts of that nature (and please flag them).

I've just had it with shit-stirrers so that's one thing.

The other thing is, there are topics that we can't discuss. This is internet-wide at this point, with the rare and rapidly disappearing exception.  I will be de-platformed and/or suffer targeted attacks over things people say here. I can't weather either for long, so these are the two main problems.

Third and least, stuff like the biting coin and doggy coin and that oil people use for things bring 50 + spam signups a day.  It's cumbersome to delete them. Block delete but only 10 per page and you have to go through more than one step and deleting them strains the site for some unknown reason.

I just don't have an hour a day to mess with people trying to get on the site to post a link.  It's draining.

@Opalina, I didn't think your comment was fair or true. For one thing, Satori writes on this site and she is fervent, outspoken liberal. We have been friends for 20 years. But I also heard from a user, furious over your comment, because she was run off this site for typing, "Obamacare". Let's just say it goes in both directions.

I hope you will let this drop. What happened (or what you think happened) "years ago" is irrelevant to where we are now in 2021. We are looking to see if this forum has a future and if so, how might we might secure it.

The sentiment has been pretty clear at this point. I appreciate your support.

@elsa I’m really sorry, Elsa. If you get a chance, please delete that thread I made recently about dcoyned. There’s been some excellent astro conversation about it recently, and I thought it might bring some energy to the forum. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the good kind. Do not want to cause any trouble for you, at all, nor will I take any clean up personally.

Oh, and I know it wasn’t just me, it’s a popular topic and you have to deal with fallout regardless who’s posting about it where.. thread, comment, etc.

@earth-world you did nothing wrong!  And I will delete it, if it becomes a target.

I'm just trying to give people an idea what goes on behind the scenes of a site like this.

There are legions of people working at home (also bots), searching for anyone discussing the thing they are hired to sell.

"Can I find love" will being slews of people selling love potions and/or spells for example.  You can't really blame them. I don't blame them. "Them" may be a machine!

Anyway, don't worry about it. I have filters and I take care of this stuff.  I'm mentioning it because it's all these things combined that make me question maintaining this forum. But if people like it and they want to meet and discuss things, that is great and fine. It's what I want.  But the censorship if internet-wide and out of my hands.

There are fewer and fewer sites where you can say whatever you want.  This is their mission, you could say. Free speech.  And they have financial backing?

My mission is to help people learn and enjoy astrology and to sell consultations of course, which is part of it.

I like free-wheeling conversation, obviously. But it's no longer allowed - as I mentioned in another post, some people may not be aware of this but it's true.

@elsa Random Thoughts became a melting pot and an easy mark for shit posters. Its true there are topics we can't discuss, but small talk and talk about everyday things shouldn't be a problem.

A lot of people just want to vent a little about their lives. If we keep out things like politics and bitcoins and keep it more personal, I think it won't be attractive to outside spammers.

This is your site so its up to you, but maybe we can modify things instead of throwing it all out.

@mariar Yes, unfortunately. Please see this:

This is not my doing.  We're to a point where the dominant search engine can find an image on your site (like pictures where Venus is shown, partially clothed) and threaten your entire site if it is not removed.

There are specific narratives that are disallowed at this time. The threat is to ban a person from payment processing and worse.

I guess some people don't know what is being done to their neighbors and/or their friends.

The last thread that was about the alect-ion.  Someone posted about it and within a couple hours, that particular page was targeted by a network of concerned parties, worldwide.

Really, websites must comply or be eradicated by whatever means.  It is not personal to me or to you. We are at a stage where dissenting opinions cannot be expressed.

It's not hard to fathom. One search engine controls 98% of the internet roads by which a person arrives at this site.  What they dictate is nonnegotiable.

So the question at hand is can we continue to meet for discourse? So far, it seems we can but I am going to leave this thread pinned until this feels truly resolved.
