Voted 'The Ugliest Man on Campus' when she went to University, the uncompromising Janis Joplin, who grew up in a conservative Texas Coast town, was never going to be a cheerleader and marry the high school quarterback. And thank God for that - here she tears up the stage at the 1967 Monterrey Pop Festival with her incredible rendition of  'Ball and Chain', considered one of the most powerful rock performances of all time). Mama Cass Eliiot's (of the Mamas and Poppas) literally jaw-dropped reaction at 3minutes 30 seconds is absolutely priceless):
