How is the reopening going in your land?

I heard Florida is now reopening fully with no masks and no restrictions on bars, restaurants, etc.

It's just as well. In Europe, the virus is now mutating to a more contagious strain that can scoot around the masks and hand washing. You can still get infected even if you're careful.

At this point, I'm expecting to catch it this winter. So I'm looking for a place to live that has a private bathroom so I can isolate properly should I need to. Laugh at me if you want. We're past containing this now. I'm not stressing too much about it. Life has to go on. I'll still take precautions, but it's hitting the rural areas now. There is no escape. It is what it is.

I hope it goes well in FL with the reopening.  We really need to move on from the quarantine lifestyle.  Its depressing.

I read that the new strain in Europe is much weaker than the original virus.  I hope that's true.  Fortunately, we know a little more about the virus now and have therapeutics that can prevent it from being so severe.  For myself, I'm still going to lay low through the winter.  I've always had Thanksgiving, but my house is too small to have any kind of social distancing, so probably not this year.

NMC, I hope you can find a great situation.  Definitely you need a private bathroom!

@jofrance True, at least this strain is not getting deadlier.

My former housemate has a daughter working in Florida as a surgeon. I can't imagine what she's feeling right now. Her mom got remarried this summer and honeymooned in Florida. Her daughter gave her strict instructions not to dine in at restaurants. Only eat outdoors. It didn't put a damper on the honeymoon, thankfully. Her parents brought their own bar with them, too, and stayed at a beach house.

We're still miserable here, HOWEVER, I have a group I help run that has a covert list of businesses that don't enforce masks, and actively shirk the mandate. My husband and I enjoyed breakfast at a restaurant this morning - no masks on any one. We won't go where they require them or harass us and we have long memories. Maybe it won't matter, but it does to us. Anyway, we've made lots of friends and find each other at these places, offer our own services to each other (my daughter now has piano lessons and my son sports, no mask requirements on them). We are the "resistance" in this hellscape 😉

It's hard watching so many places open up and go back to normal (for now anyway) knowing there is zero chance of that here. The gov lost a lawsuit but was granted a stay until he can appeal it. He's not giving up his emergency powers.

I am also on the resistance of that same hellscape. My husband and one of my daughters feel the same. I have another daughter who is not in the same camp. I can't talk about it with her or it will cause us both alot of discomfort.

I have a long memory too. I resent being treated as less than a human being. Forgiveness is coming -never. This has really changed my perception of people in general and especially the hunger for and abuse of power by authority.

I admire your covert continuance  of life. Cool

@ln Thank you LN ❤️

It is hard but I hear you on biting your tongue. I have a friend who I meet up with so our kids can play and we can hang out. She has her kids in masks outside at the playground. I think it's crazy but I respect her ability to make her own choice and we don't delve into the topic beyond a certain point. I'm just happy she's not too scared to meet up at all!

Today I ventured into a Burlington store to get Dad a birthday present. First department I've entered in MONTHS.

I had to stand in line outside for a minute, because they can only let in so many people at a time. Then I had to navigate arrows and signs throughout the store. I'm kind of used to that by now.

But the weirdest thing I saw inside was boxes of surgical masks--WRAPPED IN SECURITY TAGS!! 😵

I bought one of those boxes and asked the cashier why they were wrapped in those. She said it's because people were stealing masks out of the boxes.

FFS. People have had months to get masks and they are everywhere, like hand sanitizer. But they're still acting like it's March 2020 and they can't find them. (Back then, hospital admins had to put masks under lock and key for their staff, because visitors were hoarding fistfuls.)

I am disgusted with humanity at this point.

@notmycircus I wonder if these are the same people who litter them outside on the ground...that's a thing here. More reason for disgust.

@space-cadet I've seen that, too. I won't pick them up, either. Nasty. To me, it's like big fat F U.

I don’t think it’s healthy or wise to get used to all kinds of restrictions. There was too many for me before. Stay home- ok, but only because it’s the only place I feel free.

Also, my son is still doing distance learning and I live in a very low rate, veeeery low death county. I feel like I’m in The Twilight Zone ninety percent of the time when I go out.

@libra-noir I said that to my husband yesterday as we drove by multiple people who were alone, outside and wearing masks on their faces. 🙁
