My surgery was scheduled today. I probably could have had it this month but my daughter is coming to visit.

My husband has an mri scheduled on a Saturday. It makes me think they’re trying to catch up and also get money coming in again. There has not been many patients here… example my mil is in a nursing home. Zero cases. So the hospitals and staff have lost income.

I don’t know the deal on the chain restaurants, but there is a restaurant out here in the country that’s popular. They opened the last week of April. Far as I could tell, they just turned on their OPEN sign and people converged on them, instantly. When I drive by now, it seems normal.

What’s happening in your land?

In Australia, we have flattened the curve but the premier of my state has been very reluctant to wind back our restrictions. The PM wants to slowly get the economy restarted and I really wish for this to occur.

Unfortunately, my state has the toughest restrictions even though we don’t have the highest cases. Today there is a major cabinet meeting which will announce more details of our PM’s plans to get things re opened. I just hope my premier is receptive.

It’s great that you are beginning to see some signs of normalcy where you are re: restaurant. Small changes can make a big difference to how we feel.

We haven’t started reopening yet.

But the garden centre that’s part of the supermarket where I work will be opening tomorrow.

I predict it will be crazy busy.

I spoke with a friend who is going to the bank to have something notarized. This is in one of the western states.

She was told to wear a mask, up to the door. Then she is to take off her mask, walk in, at which point everyone in the bank will put their mask on!

I could not figure this out… but she explained, they have some facial recognition thing going in there. Eerie!

Oh that makes sense – that the masks are not compatible with facial recognition technology. Fun little foil to the plot!

Things are starting to reopen but it’s a little confusing. There is a clash between the city and state. The city is being particularly confusing about the timeline and can’t seem to nail anything down. That’s pretty much normal for them, though. 😉

In any case, I’m happy for a return to regular life (or something closer to that). And I don’t care what anyone thinks of that. The bandaid needed to be ripped off at some point.

Of course, going to businesses is still a weird experience. I’m not sure if masks are still required across the board but I’m still wearing one during public interactions. And I haven’t tried dining in a restaurant or anything like that that’s just starting to open up again.

Slight update…the city now extended the stay-at-home order through the 30th, and they are also asking restaurants to keep logs of customers who dine in. Same thing with other reopened services. I think I’m gonna continue to wait on that.

There are some businesses reopening I guess, but my state extended the “stay at home” order until the end of May. Even the community garden is closed. Big bummer. Our planting date isn’t until June 6, but we haven’t done any of the spreading of compost or mulching that we said we were going to do by now over at the community garden. I’ve finished all that at my home garden. At least the nursery is open.

NJ said we are not reopening until June 6 now.  This is just ridiculous.  The Governor needs to stop treating all of NJ like a suburb of NYC.

Our Lowes and Home Depot have never closed, but all of the smaller places, clothing, shopping, etc., are still not allowed to open.  Restaurants are takeout only.

Last weekend, they opened several parks at 50% capacity and they filled up right away.  There was no picnicking, no playgrounds or anything else to do there except walk and practice social distancing.   They might have allowed some fishing.  Big whoop!  I can have more fun in my yard.

I don’t think this lockdown is going to fly for much longer in NJ.  We’re all adults, understand the risks, know how to keep safe and we want our freedom back.

I have mixed feelings about my state reopening.

On the one hand, people need to get back to work before we have worse problems than this virus. Stimulus checks are not reaching everyone, and you can only sit on your hands for so long.

On the other hand, we’re still trending upward in cases (granted, there’s more testing going on). The whole world knows that Hall County is now Georgia’s hotspot. The governor will authorize the makeshift ICU in my city to open May 14th. That’s about a week from now.

Traffic is pretty much back to normal here. A lot of places still haven’t opened up. The governor allowed hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, spas, bowling alleys and gyms to reopen, then the malls a few days later.

People are out and about, though. Walking and biking everywhere. Kroger parking lot is always full. Some fast food places have lines around the block. Some people wear masks, some don’t.

Right now the biggest news coming out of my state isn’t the reopening anyway–it’s the Armaud Arbery case. GBI is investigating the case. I swear, Governor Kemp just can’t stay off the national news. He is always in deep doo-doo for something.  shrug_gif

NMC, once they start doing the testing the number of cases go up a lot. Its scary.  I don’t know how they report it in GA, but in NJ, they just report the number of positive tests.  They don’t report any further information about whether the people recovered, who they were, etc., just a running tally.

I read today somewhere that half of the cases in NJ that died were in nursing homes.  Well, that’s not surprising.  Did they really die of the virus or because they were extremely ill anyway?

Even though its uncomfortable to open back up, we have to do it.   I’m hoping GA is a success story when it comes to opening up.  FL is doing okay, I think.

I read about the Armaud Arbery case.  How heartbreaking for his family.  What happened to him is very sad and I hope justice is swift for those that did it.

NMC…

I am going to be your neighbor very soon. We could actually meet, see each other in person. I will be right there… in that ‘hot spot’
