In a synchronicity, I received an email yesterday about the amazing benefits of fasting.

Dr. Jason Fung's website (Intensive Dietary Management) and book (The Obesity Code) explain thing very clearly I think.

That's an excellent point about the electrolytes thanks, user.

Game on. My waist measurement this morning was an eye opener and a motivator. My visceral fat is a good number for my age though.

I fasted 15-1/2 hours before having my breakfast. I have errands to run over the course of the day so that should keep me occupied. I made me a nice Virgo Moon list of what to eat and when. I'm writing this to keep me honest until this becomes a new normal for me.

It was really easy until 3:00, I just had to give up and take a nap because I was weak, trembly and hungry. They say you won't be weak and trembly but I was. I may only have the protein drinks on Sunday.

I lost 2-1/2 pounds of water and I wasn't hungry at all this morning which surprised me. I have only eaten some oatmeal with almond butter. Food is really salty, wow.

Last post for awhile. I just wanted to say that it is 90% easier if you wait until lunch before having any kind of food.

It's not hard now except it gives me a headache which I remember now having a headache in high school when I only ate 700 calories a day. I lose a lot of water weight even though I drink plenty. I don't know that I'm ready to give it a thumbs up yet.

Oh ya the headaches. I've found that protein helps. I'm not sure what the restrictions are for this diet but maybe you could throw a few almonds or an egg in there.

I had made a point to eat protein but I guess I am going to have to cut back on the two meals so that I can have the protein drink. I have been eating two 250 calorie meals but I will have to make an adjustment.

My sister was on the 5:2 plan for a while and found it was too hard to maintain because you couldn't get into a daily groove. She shifted to a plan where you only eat within an 8 or 6 hour period and you fast the rest of the time. She says it is amazing. She read about it on the Mercola site. There is a TON of info there.

I have to keep an eye on electrolytes since I am on a med that makes me pee out potassium. This is a good list of foods:

I know I get low on magnesium all the time anyway because I can take some and my joints don't hurt as much the next morning. Maybe I should have my mom check my blood sugar to see if it is really low during the fasting.

I will up the protein this weekend but if I still have a headache then I may try the 8-hour window of eating. It would be super easy on my days off but I work 10 hour days so I'm not sure how to handle that.

I can tell that weight has come off of my back and trunk around the top and middle section of ribs. My natural waist isn't cooperating so far though.

I gained some weight from believe it or not, the skin biopsy I had in Sept (which was negative) and left me with a 3 in scar (grrr) that opened and healed so to get a normal scar I have to have it recut and closed. I went TWICE to follow up because I felt it coming apart and the dr- who had an incompetent staff and who was retiring- told me it was fine.  Months of healing. It even actually hurts still.

Anyway that incision and scar knocked me off the gym plus just feeling like crap made me indulge more. To get on track- because I WILL NOT keep this weight- I'm going to do Healthywage and make money. I already know I can do it so the money is extra incentive.

Anyway I'm saying that it's good to find your motivation.  I do best sticking to 1200 cal a day and the treadmill. It works for me, reliably. It's not a bad idea for you to tweak it though so you feel better. Headaches are tough.

But you have been successful so far, so congrats!
