I ran across a person asserting the Catholic church disavowed astrology so people could not access the knowledge that can be derived from it. The church was fine with astrology, prior, as evidenced by the zodiac signs in cathedrals around the world.
Prior to reading this, I'd been given other reasons or explanations. I had to look at into pretty deeply, as did my (Catholic) husband before marrying me.
I can't tell you this is true but I can tell you the wisdom you can gain from astrology seems to be hidden more and more every day. Buried by the search engine so a person trying to learn it runs into a bunch of nonsense...misleading nonsense, actually.
I'm watching this in horror. You can have "bread and circuses" but no real knowledge. It's just so devious. Here's an idea: let's not get any dumber.
Yah, it all reminds me of the movie Idiocracy!
Elsa, I agree with tou 100% that true knowledge is being hidden, obscured or destroyed on an absolutely massive scale - in the same way that places of worship and congregations are also being torn apart, blocked or dissolved. Increasingly, physical books, art, symbols, our faces and even nature itself are only available to us online - censored, filtered or just eliminated altogether by those in charge of our electronic world. The last time something similar to this utter destruction of all our parameters of society, culture, family, friends and faith must have been the time of the flood. Now the devastation is not from waves of water (the age of Pisces) - but electronic waves - the Age of Aquarius. This is why I have built my library, which now houses a few hundred select books, plus art, film, photos etc. - all in physical form which can't be deleted, hidden, altered, obscured or corrupted.
As for astrological references to astrology in the bible, there are plenty, and they make for some very interesting reading indeed!
The late great Kelly Lee Phipps wrote a lovely piece explaining how the opening pages of the bible begin with how astrology is integral to understanding the universe and ourselves. He had quite a facility for languages, and if I remember correctly, spoke fluent Hebrew. Here is an extract:
'The Hebrew the word for light used when God says, “The sun, moon, and stars were created for giving light on the earth,” is ‘aur’. The Hebrew writers were well versed in the sacred language of archetypes. They were able to contemplate truth through symbol as each letter of their alphabet held an archetypal meaning. Aleph, the beginning letter of aur symbolizes unthinkable vibration, the sacred spirit of life, infinite potential, and eternal possibility. Vav, the middle letter, symbolizes the process of divine fertilization emanating from the creative void. Raysh, the final letter, symbolizes the hidden movement of cosmic possibility as creation. Hidden in the letters of Hebrew light we discover its deeper meaning, the infinite potential of the sacred spirit fertilizing creation.
The first line of the Bible says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” When you break it down into archetypal Hebrew it means, the first fruits of the spirit aspiring to express eternity through a fountain of divine wisdom were the creation of the celestial dimensions and the manifest world. Now that casts a whole new light on Biblical translation. The Hebrew word for astrologer is ‘ashaph’ which breaks down to ‘the spirit communicates through the sacred flames.’
Academic Ralph Ellis has a paper entitled 'Astrology in the Bible, Astrology Part 1' which is available on the Academia website as a free PDF. In the 11 pages comprising Part 1, it covers mostly precessional astrology:
...significant events described in the Torah and Gospels were recording the knowledge and veneration of the precessional zodiac, which was one of the primary foundations of the Judaeo-Christian creed... (however) this veneration has been deliberately obscured, presumably for religio-political reasons, to portray the zodiac's symbolism as being agricultural or pastoral.... It also means that the Greco-Egyptian zodiac that we are familiar with today was established in its pre-sent form in at least the early second millenni-um BC. Therefore, the classical zodiac must predate Greek culture and civilization. There is also the intriguing possibility, contained within the Torah accounts, that the biblical authors were recording verbatim discussions between Joseph and Pharaoh.
And finally, there is evidence that this this knowledge of the precessional zodiac has been lost, not only to modern religious authorities but also to the historical fraternity too, who do not appear to understand the ram’s horn sym-bolism for Alexander the Great and Ptolemy III. However, this knowledge was not lost in the 1st century, with the demise of the Naza-rene Church, and so in the next article we shall move on to the Middle Ages and Arthurian Legend, and see convincing evidence that the precessional zodiac was known about and fully understood even in this late era....
I have noticed that Google is truncating the results for some searches. I don't know when this started, but you have to click "show more results" for results that Google has judged aren't important or "relevant" enough.
I haven't explored this new development in detail yet, but it's very annoying, as I am well-versed in Internet investigation by now and do not appreciate the winnowing of information.
A lot of history has been edited and books gone out of print...
It pains me that we will never know what we don't know, and lose who we are in the process just because we don't know all of our history, and some of it is outright lies. I believe it's purposely done to us (pardon my pessimism).
