I saw the comet NEOWISE a few minutes ago. It is low on the horizon and will soon set. I had to position myself to see it. It was visually between two of the neighbors’ trees.

It took a sky map app and 10×50 wide angle binoculars to find it. I could not find it last night. I was looking too high. Tonight it is higher on the sky, closer to the Big Dipper.  It is barely naked eye visible in my immediate area with security lights in the neighborhood.

The comet will be closer to the dipper tomorrow night. We are expecting rain though. Tonight may be my only sighting.

Has anyone else seen it?

Cool. Not located in a good position here to view the lower sky, even moreso when the leaves are out. The APOD website has been featuring pics of this comet for a while, I look at that page every day.

I haven’t though I have tried, the mountains mess me up. I will try again tonight, I even went out driving the other night trying to see it.

Yeah! While up at just past midnight zeroed in on Jupiter and Venus in the Pacific Northwest America, I saw it flash through the western sky close to the Big Dipper. So quick, and cool. Thanks for the call out. Love it!

How cool!. I unexpectedly saw a meteor last year. It started out as a blue-green beam of light and then turned into a massive orange, fiery ball. Spectacular!.

I have seen the comet only once since the initial sighting. That was three days later and partly cloudy then.  It’s been cloudy here in the evenings. I am glad for the times I did see it. I will look again tomorrow if conditions are good. Current position is higher in the sky.
