I think censorship whether its being cancelled socially, institutionally, or by law is the most debilitating thing you can do to a culture. We think by talking. We share, correct, and inform each other. It doesn't happen in a vacuum. If you stop that you stop our main problem solving mechanism. And that's it....

edit to add: this idea that someone can "stop misinformation" for your own good is the most arrogant thing I've ever encountered. I believe the old adage: You can only counter bad information with more good information.

This is such a good point. Sometimes I see insane astrology out there. It's completely wrong.

Ten years ago, I would have tried to offer something.  But now I know better.  Disagree at your own peril!  You get to be reviled, attacked, website attacked, black-listed, insulted, etc.

I think it's mostly shills but it doesn't matter if people can't spot a shill / troll which most cannot.

It's tough for me because I am a forthright person by nature.  Thankfully, I have free-speaking private consultations for an outlet. But it's tough to stand by and watch people be kidnapped, tricked, misdirected, bullshitted, time wasted, again and again and again, all day long.  They're literally being tricked and seduced to their doom and ultimate demise.

Supposedly you can claim #unpopularopinion but if you have one of them, it also better be popular!

Ha ha. So much for that.
