Hey everyone,

I enjoy helping people heal and sharing ways that have helped me.

We all have had pain in this life and will continue to have it. The most important thing is to deal with it head on as soon as you can.

The one tool that has saved me is daily meditation. It can change your life. It also literally physically changes your brain.

It’s not instant. It takes at least a month of daily meditation to start feeling a change. 5 minutes each day is all I do. Meditation helped me to accept anything and everything that comes my way- even the bad things. I feel more content, more resilient, calm, grateful, etc. It also helps you find your true self. I do have bad days still but there is a sense of hope at the end of them rather than doom- since I’ve been meditating.

If you want change, you have to change something. 5 minutes out of 24 hours is a small commitment but can have a huge impact on your well being.

Download the Simple Habit app- my favorite teacher on there is Cory Muscara. The most important part is to do it every day.

Thank you! I do meditate but its kind of organic and spontaneous. Ultimately life itself can be a meditation, which I think Im growing into.

For me, practicing the 12 steps has been the absolute most peace bringing thing Ive ever done. Anyone can practice them!

Yes I agree.. The more I meditate the more life feels like a meditation.

What is the 12 steps?

This app simple habit has been the best thing for me. They are guided meditations. I haven’t quite fully benefited from unguided meditations yet but I want to get there.

Well that page is about a 12 step program for addicts. I was trying to avoid stuff like that because it reinforces the idea that the 12 steps are only for alcoholics and drug addicts and I didnt have the energy to look for the right stuff honestly. I do appreciate you though, Tango.

The point is that the 12 steps can be used by anyone for anything that they feel powerless over that is disturbing their peace, from a full blown addiction to a neighbor that plays their music too loud. Its a guideline for living a spiritual and peaceful life.

I’ve given this some thought since you posted and I think I would say that I struggle emotionally not mentally.

Meditation really helped my PTSD years ago, candle meditation helped me the most due to all of my Mercury. I also took some classes in Open Heart Meditation. I confess that I don’t meditate anymore at this time in my life I find walking outside, drinking a lot of water and taking magnesium to help me more than anything.

By saying mentally-  I think I meant emotionally as well since I’m referring specifically to depression or anxiety.

Either way meditating is proven to be beneficial for most issues that arise in our heads. It helps us to acknowledge, understand and accept our emotions.

I dont really meditate very often, honestly I end up getting bored and restless and can’t wait for it to be over- I don’t doubt the power of meditation though. If I were to meditate I find short meditations to music have the biggest impact and keep me focused and I will admit I do feel very restful and at peace when they’re over. In general though I think what works best for me is getting out into nature (barefoot if possible) and exploring- that soothes me more than anything   smile

Getting out in nature and exploring is one of my top tools.

As is simply getting out and driving out in the countryside.

Meditation has never worked for me. Especially not guided meditation or any meditation that must follow a prescribed formula. (But we are all different. I know some people swear by it. I am happy for them that it works for them.)

Self-guided inner work works better for me. Using tools that change as I change. What worked for me at a certain stage of my evolution does not necessarily still work for me when I attain a later stage.

The 12 steps that I learned in Al-Anon decades ago served me well. I return to them every now and then. Along with other core principles that I learned in Al-Anon.

Having lived almost six decades, there are now many tools in my toolbox, and some new ones get added every now and then. (A hammer is never the right tool for every job. Some jobs call for a screwdriver. Or a paintbrush. Or a toothpick.)
