Most agree that female psychopaths are very rare. The men are said to outnumber the women 4:1. I have also seen statistics that state 1% of women are psychopathic as compared to 3% of men.

Have you ever known a female psychopath?

Yes, Elsa.

My mother.

There are many opinions around sociopath vs psychopath, so not 100% sure WHAT to term her. I usually refer to her as a sociopath, but she "fits" as a psychopath as well.

I have never met ANYONE like her.

Would say this is very rare. Now, women with borderline disorder- I have met, known, or worked with many over the years.

My adoptive mother. She was certainly a sociopath but I'd also say a psychopath - you have to be to adopt two girls a year apart in age, and treat them so totally differently. It was recognised by all the family, too.

My sister eventually went into therapy to try to deal with her guilt and with issues to do with our 'mother's' hold over her - and my sister's therapist told her "This woman is a psychopath and get as far away from her as possible - cut off all contact". We were both forced to do that for several years, to save our own sanity. My mother was never happier than turning people against one another, and spent much of her life trying. Both her sister's children turned against her.

I knew another woman in the last village I lived in who had been the only daughter in a family of boys. She too was utterly persecuted by her mother, and had a very similar experience to mine. I don't think it's that rare either; I think maybe female psychopathy is more hidden becuase it operates in a family context and in the psychological realm, rather than as an externalised and physical urge (eg serial killer). Female psychopaths specialise in mental cruelty, with just 'normal' violence on the side! - ie slapping and stuff, not weapons

I met another woman psychopath a few years ago, a racehorse owner and dog breeder who was a total nutter and narcissist, and cruel by neglect to her supposedly 'beloved' animals. She was sheer poison - I spotted it instantly but wasn't able to persuade my friends whom she almost ruined financially, and with malice aforethought. She was utterly without conscience - or self-knowledge. In the end she overreached herself and had too many lawsuits going and was bankrupted. Good riddance!

((Blessed Place)) What a silly woman to have wasted her life and tossed away so much happiness that you and your sister could have brought to her. (if she had not been so crazy.) It seems to me you have survived and have lived a very interesting life. They do say "the best revenge is a life well lived"

It's just a shame that she put a wedge between you and this other girl who also had the misfortune of being adopted by someone who was not capable of being a good mom. Cruelty to children or animals just breaks my heart.
