Think about it: probably the two biggest things people want to know about or resolve with astrology are love and money, both Venus ruled.

Isn’t it weird we talk so much about outer planets and Mercury when it’s Venus that is often the thorn in one’s side? I also notice that there is a tendency to favor love discussions over money when discussing Venus transits. Maybe there’s an idea that love is higher on the morality scale than money? Yet both are Venus.

How do you use astrology to understand Venus? Do you think about how to use it better to your advantage?

Very open topic, post your thoughts here.

What a great question! Could it be that people believe that love conquers all?

I wouldnt say that i use astrology to have an advantage in some pragmatic way. Its more about seeing the fabric of life represented and the beauty in that. The relationship between energies and how things manifest when put together is cool to me.

As far as Venus. Well i am a Libra:) In my case ive focused more on the values part of the Venus energy. Its helped me to clarify what i value, within myself, so that i have some framework that helps me make decisions (my biggest struggle).

For some reason (im sure its something in my progressed chart that im not seeing), im not interested in romantic love or money right now. I dont know if i ever will be again. Theres some freedom in that for me. As you mentioned, these are things that compel people to look for answers, keep them up at night, and cause breakdowns. But in my experience venus “stuff” is fun but fleeting. Venus can be profound. Ive experienced this. But its still only occuring within a deeper profundity.  I guess what im trying to say, is that a lot of people put so much weight on venus ruled things that it kind of ruins the venusian essence. I dont know if that made any sense:)

eta: I guess i would have to say that venus is problem for most people because they make it a problem. In my mind, venus has zero problems. Shes eating grapes and cheese and looking at fine men and shell worry about the indigestion and std’s later.

Maybe there is a lack of Mars (Martian) energy? Too much Venus means too little Mars…but I would also wonder about what is going on in their 2nd house of values…

I also think that those who are interested in astrology are more spiritual to begin with, and money can be so coarse, so vulgar…so it may be more natural to think about love over money.

This has always been me; when presented with a wish, I would always wish for true love.  Never money.  Venus in Leo conjuncts my MC, in a t-square with Uranus and Chiron.  Plus it is contra parallel Neptune.

I’ve switched- probably because of age- to think of Venus in terms of money more than love. I’ve had plenty of love and relationships. Yet, you would think that the functioning of my Venus is the same.

People make it an either/or out of love and money. “Better to have love in a cottage than be alone in a castle” “It’s as easy to fall in love with a rich man as a poor man”.

I wonder why there’s a belief that Venus gives with one hand and takes with the other.

(btw I have Libra Venus conj Scorp sun in the 2nd, not surprising I am interested in this)

Venus can also be thought of in terms of “value”. So what do you value? In general and at the present time (maybe due to fears, instant or delayed gratification, etc.). So depending on our needs at the time, maybe it’s love or money or possessions or experiences or peace. As Kumquat stated, at her time in her life now, seeking romantic love or partnership is not a concern or she is already secure here. Having monetary security is. And LibraNoir also explains this.

None is better or worse. It just depends on what you need and also what is working for you. But you can see how you can use and/or tweek your Venus and its utility is often overlooked. 😍

Brilliant question. Venus indicates one’s passion for something. When Venus is a significator of 5th and 7th and/or 11th houses in one’s chart, love/romance becomes an important thing for them. If watery signs like Cancer are also connected, they desire more emotional affection from the partner. Neptune connection to Venus also appends emotional love. Saturn’s good aspects and Jupiter influence on Venus give pure love. Mars, Uranus connections give several varieties of complications.
Venus in earthy/fiery signs becoming a significator of 2nd, 4th (12th to 5th), 11th houses, and getting critical (square, opposition) aspects from Saturn make a person more passionate about materials, money, luxuries than love/affection.

The most favorite planet from all. I like to symbolize it with art, happiness in love, dances, poetry, artistic talents, the desire for beauty and perfection in myself and others – all this is related in astrology with this planet I have. After all, beauty has a strong influence, whether it is the emotional impact of art, landscapes or a beautiful face.

Such an interesting question.  I’m with Elsa-  people believe love conquers all- they think as long as they have love worldy problems wont matter as much anymore.  “All you need is love” comes to mind too.  It’s interesting because I’ve never though about it before but Venus is so important to people  because it is the most benefic personal planet. It’s a lot more personal and conscious than say, Jupiter, the greater benefic.

Lucifer in the Sky without Dia-monds…Nooo problem. Basically Venus is what we want, what we really really want. Might not be what we think we want, or feel we want, or supposed to want, or believe we want. Venus is what we experience as want, love and money are just some of the things people want. The desire of want is Venus and the impetus to get it is Mars. Venus is tangled up with many reasons, situations and levels that change along the way through time. There are all types and all kinds of wants, positive and negative, some can benefit us, some can kill us. Venus is magnetic attraction and a magnet has two poles.

In Astrology the first morning star cycle of Venus is known as Lucifer Retrograde. Lucifer means “bringer of light”. The religious biblical sense of Lucifer has the connotation of a personified devil who leads people astray. If the belief pattern is in terms of that personification, then blame things on an outside entity. Venus can seem a devil when it manifests as negative uncontrolled taking, acting or projecting upon what we WANT without conscious thought, concern or consideration, otherwise realistically we could take the credit or blame for our own Venus behavior and let the experience of our own Venus be our teacher.

From Earth’s viewpoint the Venus/Sun cycle has 4 Phases, #1 Lucifer Retrograde described as internally anti-social; #2 Lucifer Direct described as externally anti-social. The Lucifer morning star phases resonate the Taurian earthy tone. #3 Hesperus Direct described as externally social; #4 Hesperus Retrograde described as internally social. The Hesperus evening star phases resonate the Libran airy tone.

We are all born into one of these phases showing how our Venus manifests in its expression. Progression advances the cycle through the years and the expressions can change. The phases are of differing lengths. Easy way to find your phase, consider the chart planets as going clockwise, if Venus is retro ahead of Sun its #1; if Venus is direct ahead of Sun its #2; if Venus is direct behind Sun its #3; and if Venus is retro behind Sun its #4.

Venus rising before Sun is morning star, described as anti-social as the wants precede the self. Venus setting after the Sun, described as social as the self precedes the wants.

Until I read this on ElsaElsa some while ago, I’d never realized that Venus is about love and money! It explained some of my experiences of people taking advantage of me…

Aside from money, I’m thinking Venus can be a problem because there is a big expectation on love, people think it will fix everything in their life (like Elsa & la_sirena propose). So the bigger the expectation, the harder the disillusion when landing in reality. That’s putting a lot of responsability on someone else – doesn’t always end up the way it was projected.

I don’t think the other planets have as much illusion/disillusion potential (fairy tale quotient). They seem more mechanical or business-like compared to Venus’ dream world.

But that’s probably my Neptune square Venus speaking, vaguely disappointed dreamer with slight resentment.

In various books, astrologer/authors will sometimes reference how quick Venus transits are, often to the point of going unnoticed or experienced as a brief, pleasant but generally unremarkable time.

(I believe that is the correct explanation of the astrology…?)

So maybe outer planets transits (ex. to Venus) are discussed more, even in the context of love and money, over Venus transits (ex. to outer planets) because their effects are experienced over longer periods of time and often indicate a lasting change or more meaningful experience, for better or worse.

One shadow side of Venus is shallowness. Ever had the popular girl at your school not even look at you? Yeah, shadow.

Such a thoughtful question, and a great opportunity to read about people’s insights about venus.

People talk a lot able love and money when it comes to venus, but it seems like a lot of this is focused on hope- a lot of people hope that something or someone might come into their lives and (like Satsun said) fix everything. I don’t judge anyone for holding this view of venus though, as hope is often what keeps people going.

As a result of this though Venus does seem to have a reputation of being passive (it can rule laziness and leisure after all!). I wonder if this passive reputation is due to people not seeing Venus as a planet they can WORK.

For example, when it’s worked it can project grace, confer the ability to be peaceable. and lead others to want to like you, support you, and even gift things to you. It has the potential to be a very powerful planet, but yet it seems like it’s viewed as merely a fairy godmother?

I’ve just thought of this- does venus not get discussed or examined enough because it has an image problem? laugh

@hayley Yeah, image problem!

A sort of froufrou girl doesn’t seem serious business compared to the heavyweight outer planets, go-for-it (even agressive) Mars, cerebral Mercury etc.

Or maybe people would rather not know that love & money do not always a great combo make.
