I wonder if it would be appropriate to write to the bishop, or at least the priest of the parish where this deacon serves.

I don’t think it would be appropriate because I am supposed to be concerned with my sins, not the other person’s.

Log in your own eye, and all that.

Plus, do unto others…

I have had people report my supposed sins to priests. There is ZERO chance I would do that to someone. But I do understand the impulse, or the idea of considering it.

It’s not about sin, not directly. It’s more like the deacon shirking his leadership responsibilities. He took advantage of someone he’s supposed to look after. The people over him should care about that.

I understand. This may be something you would feel called to do or responsible to do. I don’t feel that. I feel I need to transcend and move also. I also feel gratitude I had the money to fix the car… actually, it will be offset by the stimulus payment (both mine and my husband’s combined).

I realize all the other ways to see this. I just go with my own heart, hopefully led in the right direction.

The buck stopped with me and that’s something.

I saw this great video recently on this topic that explained that people that think negatively are less likely to be fooled. And he makes a point that if you go to a car dealership it’s better to be in a bad mood:
