This will be my spine surgery thread, for anyone interested.  My surgery is scheduled. I have a face chat with the surgeon’s PA on Monday. It’s really soon, but I will try to get my questions thought of so they can be answered!

The surgeon said I would be in the hospital for four days. The email I got said I would be there all week. Either way, it will be my longest stay in a hospital either… I have also blocked off three weeks of work. I don’t know that it will take that long – I can work once I am off drugs. But it seems reasonable.  This will also be the most time I have taken off work, in my life!

I know he is going to access my back through my side so I searched, “minimally invasive spinal fusion” even though I don’t know that this is what he is doing.  I was surprised, they do such surgery on an OUTPATIENT basis. Since a longer stay is planned, I really have no clue what he’s going to do.

I am not at all scared. For one thing, the drugs they give you before they knock you out are so pleasant, if you don’t wake up, so what? My last moment would be quite nice.  But outside of that, I am also not afraid of a bad outcome. I totally expect a great outcome. In fact, I will be truly stunned if I don’t get one.

It’s going to be really hard to pull this off but it so, so, so, so needs to be done.  It’s possible this resolves most of the pain in my body; which I have lived wit, pretty severely, for ten years at this point.

I guess my first question will be, what’s the plan?

I appreciate any support. I am lacking it at this time, pretty profoundly.

Thank you.

Elsa i hope everything goes well for you! Since you live in well developed country i assume surgeons are on top on their game there! Also i would not google and search the things you did! Nervousness would probably get a best of me! I would just go there cold headed and let them do a work without thinking too much!

Fingers crossed and i hope that this will solve your body pain! Stay strong and hopefully in about a week you’ll write a story about this!

Best wishes!

My St. Jude picture didn’t stay up, oops. It included the St. Jude prayer.

Anyway, just wanted you to know I’m thinking of you as well. Sounds like you have an excellent doctor and you’re in good hands.

Elsa,

Wishing you the best possible out come from your surgery!
To me you seem to have this attitude of “Let’s git er done!”……which I find very positive and refreshing. All the best to you for your surgery.

You are a woman of faith and confidence, and luck seems to find you readily, so I have no doubt these will serve you well in this latest “gamble”. Here’s to coming out the other side all straightened out and pain-free and sprightly, all the better to garden!

Oh man. My legs will be (sort of) even again – I can go back to my normal sprinting around!

The doctor is kickass. I am sure of this to my bones…

For one thing, five years ago, I was sitting in physical therapy for my neck (which is as bad as my back). The gal next to me, had two surgeries on her neck… she told to go to this doc and only this doc and nobody but this doc. He’s not been around. Well, he has three offices.

But I met in on Tornado day. The tornado hit is city, traveled the highway t my town, which it decimated. A few hours later, he drove the tornado route to get to work (my appointment). It took him HOURS. But they moved my appointment and we connected…

Also, I did not choose the surgery day, but when I saw I was to check in with the moon in Capricorn conjunct Saturn, Pluto and my ascendant; well you know it’s where I am supposed to be, regardless of the outcome.

Well this is interesting. I am having two surgeries over two days…

First day, the go through the side, take some bone, some donor bone, some Titanium and place a graph. Stitch me up.

Second day, the go through my back to secure everything.

It sounds so modern. I’m excited.

I just spoke with the PA – she was GREAT!  For one thing, she got me on Celebrex which is a replacement for Naproxen (which I rely on to live).  I can’t take it a week before surgery. I would die.

I’ve had several doctors try to switch me over, the insurance makes this hard. She got it done within an hour. So that was my one worry in all this – gone now.

She also sent me a nice packet to explain everything they will be doing, including pictures. I’m going to check it later today.

They stick the deal in from the side… then go in and lock it down.
