Crowdsourcing Information Under The Spinning Disco Ball
In this article, the man who built the internet archive discusses how the internet could look in the future. He has worked with it since the very beginning so it's interesting to read his thoughts on the subject.
I think legit, real, everyday people (like me and you) have to create content but also shun the slick manufactured, fake stuff with it's agenda embedded.
Isn’t this the same scenario we have with politics? We need more good, wholesome, honest people in our government… but the work culture is so repulsive that most decent people tend to shy away from it. Possibly the same in education and healthcare as well? Not because any of these jobs are inherently bad, but the culture (and the red tape) that surrounds them is intolerable for most people.
“Be the change you want to see in the world” is so much easier said than done.
I like what you said about coming at people from inside the screen. Haha - I think you’ve succeeded at this as I compulsively check my phone to look at Facebook, Instagram, and ElsaElsa!
More thoughts on this.
On one hand, I see a lot more people who have discovered what I have. It seems it's got to spread.
But then I see social media setting up for more censorship. Will they block this, effectively?
It seems they may be able to do that.
If so, people are going to go to the graves, gaslit beyond their wildest imagination. You've really got to get to the very rotten root, or you're nowhere.
In another oddity, I have these friends who have raised their children (last 15 years or so) without tv. They homeschool... no phones. They're really not in the know, you could say. But then I asked them about this... and I was stunned because they knew all about it. Yes!
They know what you don't about your TV and they don't even own one. It's the spell of it all. If you can break the spell, life becomes quite happy. It's because you are no longer manipulated in ways designed to literally destroy you.
It's like being married to someone who is also married to several other people, you don't know about it. You're not going to be really happy in a situation because you know something but you just don't know what.
So you find out and it's painful. But soon after the entire sky over your life, clears and you're happier that you have been in many years... maybe your whole life.
Just imagine the soul of the person who did this to you. I feel a shiver down my (screwed together) spine.
That this has all been going on for so long is what makes it seem insurmountable but there has to be a way to overcome it. Yet people can and will only do so much at any given time, only be there for each other to a certain extent due to self interest and in spite of the big picture, if they/we even understand it at all. And like your husband said, only if they've "got the perp on top of them with a knife to the throat."
I get frustrated wondering what human beings are like without all of this. It seems like a cruel joke to have to wonder who we really are. Or maybe we know, if we turn everything off. I don't know.
Thank you for writing about this. To me it is one of the essential topics of our time.
I went to a new dentist today, since my dentist retired. The hygienist knew all about all this stuff. it's definitely getting out.
This is in a tiny, tiny one-dot town. It was surprising but also, not.
