They just shut down 5 schools near where I live for the next 5 days because someone was exposed to someone with the virus and they are deep cleaning the buildings. Not a case of it anywhere, just someone exposed to someone else. At least that’s the rumor as to why.

The branch manager for one of the home care agencies I work for has been texting us with updated info on the coronavirus. Out of a blitz of texts, only one had a link that worked (Mercury Rx in Aquarius).

In the link that did work, there was a list of ways to prevent the spread of coronavirus. One thing on the list that stood out to me was “Get your flu shot!”

Seriously! I didn’t know the flu shot could protect you from coronavirus. hmmm_gifshrug_gif

::facepalm::

NMC, it doesn’t protect you from coronavirus but it might protect you from getting the flu and spreading THAT to others…and overwhelming an ER that might potentially already be overwhelmed with people that have/think they have coronavirus.  I believe that is the thinking behind that advice.  Given you work around a population that is vulnerable to both the flu and coronavirus, I’m sure you’ve already heeded that advice months ago.

Good points! And yes, I did get my flu shot last fall.

The way it was presented on the Department of Public Health flyer just seemed misleading. I wondered if some people might actually believe the flu shot protects you from coronavirus (it doesn’t).

What a strange world we live in. Music festivals are being cancelled, flight schedules are being reduced, and Amtrak is allowing refunds for people afraid to move forward with travel plans. Meanwhile, politicians are still traveling cross country, and holding big rallies or campaigning.

You and I live in the same world. We straddle!

We have this tornado… it’s real and no one gives one whit about coronavirus. There is alcohol and wipes or whate er, utterly available.  I wonder if the hysteria will eventually impact all populations, but for now, this is tempest in teapot to every real person I know.

They note the affect on the markets but that’s about it.

It’s like a party. Invitations are issued but not everyone attends.

The only hysteria I see at the moment is on the news. Today the streets in my city were as crowded as ever. There are signs up at the pharmacy, but they’re getting slammed with business–like they are every Saturday.

My sister and her family are currently visiting a different part of the state. They’re enjoying the weirdness and beauty of Savannah.

It’s just weird that we’re all being cautioned to be super careful. Now the CDC is asking old people to avoid church, family gatherings, etc. Really? You’re right–tempest in a teapot.

As usual, we can count on the “news” to blow everything out of proportion.  They’re not helpful to anyone.  Everywhere I go looks like business as usual.

This is probably the worst time for Mercury to be in Retrograde.  There is so much disinformation everywhere.  At least that will be ending on March 10 and I bet after that we’ll all have a better idea of what to expect from Corona virus.

I think its a good idea to be careful, but just go about your business.  Maybe now isn’t the time to take a cruise.  I sure wouldn’t do that.   I’m 50/50 on flying because of the contained environment.  I went to a play with 3000 people a couple of weeks ago and I’m still here AND I’m over 60.  Still healthy.

My sister works for a big NJ hospital.  She was a nurse for years but is now in management.  She said they are prepared for the Corona virus.  I know how dedicated and confident she is, but I’m praying she stays safe.

Maybe they’re hoping people won’t vote later this year. But I hear the Tennessee tornadoes didn’t stop people from hitting the polls on Super Tuesday, so I doubt a virus is going to stop the general election.

The economy is taking a beating, but from what I’ve observed (and from what Elsa said below)–people move on. They get bored. Yes, even with a virus. The common cold has been floating around for ages and no one cares. It’s impossible to create a vaccine for it (won’t even get into all the logistics of it) but again–no one cares. Today I went to run errands for a client and the traffic was gnarly. Business as usual.

Well, I really wonder. I remember pokemon go. Both our sons visited, age more than ten years apart. Both of them were heavily into it and then nothing….

It’s like we’ll be dropping like flies or onto the next thing, with a month or two.

You just can’t tell. Hula hoops… come and go.

A microbiologist rides MARTA every day to work. She pays attention to CDC guidelines, but she isn’t hitting the hand sanitizer all day, she touches bars and rails with her bare hands, she may wipe her phone down every couple of days. She doesn’t wear a mask, either. So far, no problems. Sounds like me.

I went to mass. The priest said that some parishes are not shaking hands during the sign of peace. They are also not taking wine at communion.

Our parish is carrying on as normal for now. “If you don’t want to shake hands, don’t shake hands. If you don’t want to drink from the cup, then don’t.”

As far as I could see, the people around me acted as usual.  But we’re all dealing with tornado impact so…

Here’s an expert on the virus:

There’s more on the JRE page, for he talks about how to combat it, etc.

I hope it won’t be as bad as they say it is/might be. I’m just kinda just being as optimistic as possible.
