Wrecking My Car Story – Mars Conjunct Mercury: My Turn To Talk

Briiiinnnnnnng! Briinnnnnnnng!

It was the insurance guy. He blathered on and on. He cited various things and used a lot of technical language. It was fine because I was not listening to him at all. I’d made a decision, see. I had my Fairy Network number. I was going to state it plainly and let the universe decide. Eventually it was my turn to talk.

“Okay, well that’s all very interesting,” I said. “But here’s the thing. I saw an attorney. And she said she doesn’t even think about taking a case unless there are at least $50,000 in damages and she says I have that” I said. “Easily,” I added.

He was quiet. I knew he was collecting information so I was careful what I said.

“Thing is, I don’t like to go to court. I hate it, actually. I am not naive about what it means to go to court so I would prefer to settle. But let me tell you something. If we do go to court, I will win.”

“You’ll win?” he asked. “You’ll win, you say. How do you know…”

“Well, I don’t know. But it’s a pretty good guess. You don’t know me, but I do. And I can tell you this for sure. Judges like me. You know how there are some people judges like? I’m sure you do since this is your business. Judges like people with credibility and I have that in spades. It comes off me in waves, this is unmistakable.”

He didn’t say anything.

“So yeah. We can go to court if you want but I wouldn’t want to be in your position if we do. Because I am a single mother in an economy car, leaving the library on a Saturday morning with books for my children. And your client? Who was driving an SUV no less? He pulled in front of me and was clearly at fault. I wasn’t doing anything wrong. In fact, I’d just passed a cop one block before he pulled out and I had glanced at my speedometer and verified I wasn’t speeding. This is in the police report, by the way.”

“Go on,” he said.

“Okay, well I am pretty stressed. I am very stressed. And I am in pain and guess how I cope with stress? I go to the gym. And I go there… virtually every day. And I can prove it too. Because I have to scan a card to get in there. There’s a record.”

“Yes?”

“And now I can’t go. I can’t go to the gym, I can’t get around, and I am beginning to go crazy. And you can see none of this would be happening if not for your client who apparently feels he does not have to look for little cars since he’s driving a tank.”

“Go on.”

“I am very healthy,” I said. “I have been to the doctor three times in the last three years… for a routine pap smear. You see? There is nothing wrong with me. But now I go to the doctor three times a week, with no end in sight. So yeah. I could go on, and I will if we go to court, but you get the idea. The main thing is the judge though, huh? If they like me and they probably will, then you may very well find yourself in a bit of trouble with this because there are other extenuating circumstances and there is no telling what they’ll give me. But I bet you anything it will be significantly more than what I am going to ask you for.”

“What do you want?” he asked.

I gave him the Fairy Number.

To be continued.

With Mars (war) conjunct Mercury (mind / communication), I can fight with my mouth.

  1. I’ve been told I have the ability to pretty much get what I want, because I usually manage to manipulate the situation so that the person doing the giving thinks it was wholly their choice, not my pushing.

I can’t wait to read more!!

  2. I’m the type that thinks later of what I should have said…I don’t do so well on the spot as you do. However, I can negotiate for my clients way better than I can for myself. However, my husband tells me I make a mean deal when buying a car. By the way, my Mercury is in Pisces.

  3. Mars/Merc/Sun/NN in Libra.

    My negotiation skills are sharp
    but currently on hiatus
due to various transits I’m undergoing,
and by choice (free will) and experiment.

  4. Merc in Aries 7th House. Merc opp Pluto, trine Nep and Moon, sextile Venus.

Mercury is the most important planet in my chart. It’s the lead planet in my locomotive chart and the ruling planet of my Virgo AC and my Gemini MC. It’s also the apex planet of my kite aspect. The Moon and Neptune have more contacts but Mercury’s position in my chart is more critical (a pun! how mercurial of me)(double pun!).

If I do my research and collect my thoughts beforehand I can be a very persuasive person. Not in the sense that I can “sell” things to people (which I can’t do to save my life) but I can change how others think, introduce new ideas, bring clarity and motivate people. It’s creepy how good I am at this, I’ve had groups of people enthralled with mouths gapping at my words. I could out debate Bill O’Reilly with the proper preparation.

The catch is I have to believe in what I am saying. I have to have an emotional investment in it. I am a horrible bullshit artist which leads back to that sales thing, it’s a salesmen’s job to broker a deal – to make the sale. I will tell a person the pros and cons of the situation even if it hurts my position and makes him apprehensive.

Also I don’t think anybody would ever listen to me if I ordered them around, not even children. But if I reason with a person he’ll probably come around to my side as long as the person in question is open to it (ie not an ideologue, extremist, willfully ignorant, violently prone or arguing for ulterior motives like a sophist like say Bill O’Reilly). Even there though I can probably crack all those types of people open if I exercise enough patience and empathy and use their own language with the exception being sophists since they are fundamentally unassailable and different from the rest.

I could verbally eviscerate another person leaving him in tears and manipulate others to my bidding if I wanted to but I don’t because it’s ethically wrong. People aren’t pieces of furniture to be used at my leisure. It’s bad karma. I think other people realize this when I speak and it’s partly the reason I get a warm response.

  5. I am excellent at negotiation. For every team I’ve worked for I’ve been the nominated person to give feedback or negotiate because in this instance I use my skills to perfection. Most of the time I am able to get what I want without needing to raise my voice or wound anyone.

I think in this instance I use the sensitivity of my Mercury in Cancer and combine it with the politeness of the Libra Mars quite well. I think the reason why I am good at negotiation is because in essence I am fair and willing to find some compromise. When I was working as an administrator people used to stick me on reception to deal with difficult clients because I was quite good at calming them down.

  6. why didn’t they teach us any of this in high school? I mean, as a class, negotiating numbers with an insurance agent so you can settle out of court. I would have used a lot more often than algebra.
