Surreal – No Pain At All

surgical-staplesThe hospital called me the day after my surgery…

“How are you feeling?”

“Good,” I said.

“How is your pain?”

“I don’t have any pain.”

“You don’t have any pain?”

“No, ma’am. I haven’t felt any pain at all. I had a really good experience, start to finish. Please thank everyone involved for the great care. I have no complaints or problems. I could not have had a better experience, start to finish.”

“Well, I will tell them that,” she said, sounding a bit surprised.

“Good deal. Have a great day…”

I told her the truth. I had this surgery in the morning. The night of, I was tired.  But I got up in the morning, feeling fantastic. Seriously.

So I baked scones…three different kinds. Cranberry Orange, Pineapple and White Chocolate and Cherry Almond.

I then packaged them and drove a platter to my dentist’s office at 8 am, right as they opened. “I brought you breakfast,” I said. They were all happy. They love food. I was happy too. Twelve scones, four of each kind.

That evening I brought a second platter to my committee meeting….another twelve scones.  The rest of the batches, I packed for my husband to take to work to this couple he knows. The wife wanted the recipe so I sent samples.

I know this is crazy. I have staples in my stomach. But I can’t feel them.

I was expecting pain from the gas they pump you full of during lap surgery, but I haven’t felt that either. I also have no pain in my neck, or my hip, my walking is normal…

The fact is, I have not felt this good in five years. I feel really, really good.

Now I have to go get these staples out, next week. I will hear about pathology reports at that time and also see what the doctor recommends. She did tell my husband she thought it was likely, I’d need more surgery. I don’t know why she said this and I don’t even care.  It’s clear to me, I am at the tail end of a long health crisis and test of my character.

I just want everyone to know, I am open for business.  And as for the astrology…I’m giving this to Saturn Neptune. My burden is obscured.  It’s as if sometimes you have it really hard….and sometimes you don’t.  Transits pass!

  1. I can only imagine your relief Elsa. It must be heaven on Earth being pain free and no longer having your movement/mobility hampered. Wonderful news.

  2. Sending prayers for your continued healing. So glad your surgery went well. You do a real service by modeling how to deal with life’s challenges–health challenges, heart challenges, whatever comes along. I am a health professional and see everyday how attitude and spiritual evolvement determine outcome. Not to say that people are responsible for their own disease–but they are responsible for how they handle it.

  3. This is good news! I am amazed you aren’t feeling any discomfort at all. I had that gas in the abdomen thing and I was miserable for a while. Glad you are doing so well!

    • Yeah, I read about this and experienced it when I had an ectopic pregnancy and again when I had a hernia repaired. So I don’t know why I don’t feel anything. I was ready for it and sort of blocked out my calendar…nothing manifested and I mean, NOTHING. I have not felt any pain at all.

  4. You wrote in your “More secrets to keep” post last week about how you felt that you might finally have found the key to unlock something that’s been bothering you for a long time.

Perhaps the success of your surgery is related to that realisation.

Either way, good to hear you are feeling good and ready for action!

    • Yeah, that’s possible. That realization was horrible but not understanding what was happening was worse. So I do think this was as good as having the nerve in my neck, fried, as far as my soul and my psyche go,

  5. So relieved to know that you’re doing so well. It’s been a long journey, hasn’t it?

Curious to know — is it possible the reason you feel no pain is because they killed the nerve?

At any rate, chronic pain can really drain your energy. You must feel like you have a whole new lease on life again. Happy for you! 🙂

  6. I’m just back from the dentist. I got my teeth cleaned today and picked up my platter.

The receptionist told me she wanted a scone so bad, she used her Weight Watchers points and it was worth it! 🙂

  7. That is great news! I bet they were shocked to find out that you wasn’t experiencing any pain. Good for you and those white chocolate scones made my mouth water. 🙂

  8. Oh, Elsa! ❤️I’m so happy for you and can just picture you happy and baking! Happy Fall and all the best in health and happiness ???

  9. Wonderful news Elsa!! I am so glad to see you had nice recovery from surgery and that your tough transits wrt health are over.. enjoy feeling great again ??

  10. Wooohooo! I’m so GLAD you are feeling so well!! I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Truer words, “Transits PASS.”

  11. Close to a week, post surgery. See my doc, tomorrow. I assume she will take the staples out. I’ll also find out what she found out.

I have not had any pain at all. A little itching around the staples on day three. That’s it.

I don’t know how common or not common this is. But it’s sure been nice.

  12. Yay!! Thats such great news Elsa. I hope the good streak continues. Ps: your scones sound delicious, pinapple and white chocolate! yum : )

  13. This is truly the very best news I have heard in quite a while! I am so very happy for you! Your scones do indeed sound delicious; I am a true lover of scones! That is just one more reason to admire you! I will be praying that you get good news from your doctor, but I believe if there was anything serious, she would have called you in earlier I would think and hope. God Bless you! Elsa!
