Saturn – Backbone

I worked with a gal the other day. Her chart was not an easy one, but it had a lot of potential. I wound up telling her that her chart required she have a backbone.

I suppose this is true for everyone to some degree.  But for some, the necessity is so pronounced if we can’t bring ourselves to stand for something, we’re going to fail. We simply won’t develop the character that is promised in our chart.

My friend, Ben is a good example of this. He’s got a 10th house Sun in Scorpio.  He’s been standing up for what he feels is right, since he was a child. I try to imagine what his life would be had he tried to avoid this…and I can’t.

Do you know someone like this? How developed is your backbone?

  1. 9th house Sun in Scorpio, Capricorn Ascendant, Saturn square the Sun from Leo, exact. It’s been tough but worthy and still is. Sometimes I wish there was someone to take away the pressure though… But at the end it’s still me, mostly on my own. 🙂

  2. I’m not sure if I have a backbone or not. On the one hand, I have Pisces rising, a 7th house Sun, Sun square Saturn, Mars square Chiron, and Mars square Neptune. At the same time, I have 3 planets in Sagittarius, I have Mars in Aries Rx in the 1st house, I have Moon trine Mars, Mars trine Venus, Mars sextile Jupiter, and Sun square Uranus.

There are times I’ve stood up for myself when necessary (especially when principle, health, or career aspirations were at stake), but there are times when I have backpedalled in the face of pressure. When push comes to shove, I’ve either backed off or really stood up for myself, depending on the situation.

  3. I can relate to this. There’s a picture of me as a little girl and I’m flat out smirking at the camera, ready to eat a piece of cake. It totally conveys the attitude “I’m going to have my cake and eat it too, and that is that.” At some point my ascendant took over and my personal backbone all but dissolved. I was still good at standing up for other people and things, but I became too good at becoming who I needed to be in a given situation to avoid conflict. It is interesting to me that this phase corresponds with my actual spine rounding forward and my eyes closing for every single picture. The physical body is always a tell!

I need my backbone to feel like me, and I do need to fight for it sometimes. I can coast by without it, but it leaves me feeling empty.

  4. no, I would like to grow one though..I’m a pisces and find it extremely hard to hurt anyone’s feelings or to even be confrontational…used to work with a gal and we both in supervisory positions and she used to tell me grow a backbone! but she was merciless with people unnecessarily.

  5. Me. I feel horribly guilty when I do not act with integrity.

I have a lot of Capricorn and have known since I was a child that I would have to work on it in order to feel right/whole.

Having lots of Neptune and a Neptune transit, it’s been a challenge sometimes.

  6. Interesting you’d post this now. Some one I worked with just got sacked. My boss sat down with all of us individually to break the news. Apparently, the guy gotten a written warning earlier this year of which I wasn’t aware. However, he got sacked on an unrelated matter, which my boss told me damaged the company enough to result on immediate termination. I didn’t ask my boss the reason, exactly, but thinking back, have a pretty good idea on what he did.

The thing is, I actually quite like the guy. However, when I heard about him being sacked, I thought, “Maybe this will help him to form some backbone.” His problem was that he never seemed to care about how being late of work without notification or cutting corners from what he obviously saw as unnecessarily paperwork affected the rest of us. I know he would have liked more responsability, but have to, for once, to agree with out boss who said he couldn’t keep up with the responsabilities given to him either.

  7. Oh, forgot to mention, the guy is a very early Sadgittarian and in his mid-20’s. I’m not certain about his year of birth, he told it to me once, he is either a year or two older than my kid brother, but can’t remember which.I would think the year giving him a Sadge Moon for his birthday too is the correct one, though. I definitely think he has potential, but yes, has to go through some trials concerning personal liberty versus accountability issues.

  8. Coming back to add that I think I had to lose my backbone if only to learn that I could regenerate it as needed. That might be the case for a lot of people who feel that they don’t have one right now. I’m pretty sure we all start out with at least a semblance of one but we lose touch with it for one reason or another.

  9. God. I had to fight like hell as a kid (violent, abusive older sibling who tormented me every $%@# day). I grew into quite a fearful person, and for me fear=defensive.

By the time I got to my early 20s, I was completely exhausted from being so defensive…so I went entirely in the other direction and became a DOORMAT.

    Blech

Anyway, I’m in the middle now. Thank Christ. LOL
I’m 36 now, time to finally have some moderation, hmmmmm?

    Aries Mars/Capricorn Moon/Libra Pluto in a T-square.

  10. Isn’t backbone Saturn’s job? Saturn in Scorpio: get backbone or lie down and die. Pluto-Capricorn: Need a whole new skeleton.

  11. Hehehehe was this about me??? lol! I know I need a backbone. I felt as if all my life I’ve been in the back ahahahaha of life watching the wheels go by and having to fix my shit or the shit someone couldn’t help me pick up! lol. I was told I was strong since I was a child, I had to be. My family and relationships around were very scorpionic and martian like. So I had to wiggle worm my way around them (baby in the pack) and now I’m marring over my position/status in life in career matters. In the whole signs system I have mars/saturn in 10th house of scorpio and pluto in 9th house. I need to leave this country that is my thing. And once gone establish myself and find a vocation and live for it. That’s my plan but they say God determines your steps (sorry God I know your sacred name is used soo much!!) Peace.
