2021 is finally here! The trials and tribulations of 2020 have passed, and we’re entering new territory.
Mars will leave Aries for Taurus on the 6th, officially marking the end of the Cardinal Clash and the beginning of the Fixed Frustration. The planets in Aquarius will square off against Mars and Uranus is Taurus, creating a whole new kind of tension.
But it’s not all bad! Venus will make a lovely trine to Mars and Uranus and later a sextile to Neptune. Uranus will go direct, giving us all a little jolt out of our ruts.
The funny thing is that the pleasant and difficult aspects all seem to happen at the same time. For instance, on the 9th, Venus will trine Mars, but Mercury will conjunct Saturn. On the 13th, Venus trines Uranus, but Mars squares Saturn. On the 28th, the Sun will conjunct Jupiter, but Venus conjuncts Pluto.
It reminds me of a classic Simpsons Halloween sketch. Homer is shopping for a toy for his son for Christmas, and comes upon a mysterious shop. He chooses a doll and talks to the shopkeeper. The exchange goes like this:
Shopkeeper: Take this doll, but beware, it carries a terrible curse.
Homer: That’s bad.
Shopkeeper: But it comes with a free frozen yogurt, which I call frogurt!
Homer: That’s good!
Shopkeeper: The frogurt is also cursed.
Homer: That’s bad.
Shopkeeper: But it comes with your choice of topping!
Homer: That’s good!!
Shopkeeper: The toppings contain potassium benzoate.
Shopkeeper: That’s bad.
Homer: …Can I go now?
That’s pretty much the theme of the month. It’s a giant mixed bag of weird surprises, which strikes me as the perfect beginning to this new Aquarian cycle! If nothing else, one thing is for sure: the change we got a taste of in December is finally here in earnest. The new day has dawned.
