Love Letter to Leo

golden heartsLeo, I love you.

I love that you are the absolute embodiment of sunshine. Your genuine smile and deep zest for life make you a light that everyone loves to bask in. I love that, by the end of this article, I will have run out of different ways to say “Sun” and “shine” and “light.”

I love your puppy energy. You are so willing to be completely, thoroughly, and deeply excited by life. Your enthusiasm is contagious, and what’s even better, it is expansive and all-encompassing. You are just as likely to be doing metaphorical backflips to celebrate a friend’s accomplishments as you are to tout your own. You, like a puppy, are just ready to drop everything and party for any reason at all. I love that you know that there has never NOT been a reason to celebrate.

I also love your Golden Retriever heart. When you love someone, you are just so full of heart and joy and sparkles that you can’t contain it. You have no choice but to let it out, unleashing what I’ve called the Leo love wave. Nothing else can compare to the sheer force of your affection. I love that you understand that love isn’t love unless you do it with your whole heart.

I love your generosity. You would happily give your last dollar away if it meant a stranger could eat. But there’s more to your generosity than that. You, more than any other sign, give people room to be human. Your wide embrace is big enough to hold space for so many different ways to be. You see people for all their quirks and  flaws and you love them even for it. You dole out empathy and forgiveness like it’s going out of style.

I love your fire. You love with a righteous anger, ready to fight anyone and anything that has ever made the people you love feel like less than the brilliant stars they are. Your temper flashes easily, but it is always coupled with a drive to do the right thing and be the bigger person. You might huff, puff, and bellow, but you’re much more likely to channel that energy into building people up than tearing them down. It’s a better use of your time, and everyone knows that Leo’s time is precious.

I love that you know your own worth and aren’t afraid to assert it. You gracefully yet emphatically take up space, claiming your rightful place in this world. Your time, your energy, and your attention are valuable, and you aren’t afraid to live a life that affirms that notion every day.

I love your disdain for insincerity. I have never known a Leo to give a compliment that they didn’t mean, and I’ve never known a Leo to accept a compliment that wasn’t real. Flattery has no place in your kingdom. Authenticity only, thank you.

Actually, I love your commitment to authenticity in all its forms. For you, being exactly who you are is as natural as breathing. You just can’t conceive of any other way to be. And lucky for us, your authentic self is BOLD. It has never occurred to you to tone things down in order to fit into other people’s boxes. Instead, you demand that the world expand to contain you.

What I love most about you, Leo, is what you teach. Through your example, each of us learns how to shine in our own right. You teach us that it is okay to be loud, bold, or blindingly bright. It’s okay to be a little obnoxious. It’s okay to be anything at all, as long as it is real and it is kind. That is the ultimate gift you give to the world – the courage to be real.

Thank you Leo. For your Sun, your shine, and your light.

  1. You did it again, Midara!!!! You GOT Leo just right.
I find it impossible to ignore or to love a Leo. They are so authentic and so full of sunshine. Of course they are ruled by the sun, just like royalty. I think of
Mick Jagger strutting on stage, never mind his age. It’s been such a rough few days with this new moon, it’s such a pleasure to read your joyful descriptions. Please don’t stop spreading the
sunshine. We really need it now!!!!

  2. I needed to read this. I get down on myself a lot. Many people can’t see beyond what I call my “cloak of overwhelming odd” to see that big honest love. I’m willing to give it to you. Just peer beyond the weird.
