Intuition vs Perception

zodiac charm braceletHi Elsa!

I was wondering, is there a difference between intuition and perception? I kinda associate the former with Pisces, and latter with Scorpio, but I’d really like to know what you think of it.

Thanks!

Our language has broken down to an extent where people often define words, independently. In order to answer a question like this, it’s necessary to what definition we’re going to use for purpose of discussion.

Intuition – a keen and quick insight.

This sounds like Scorpio to me.

Intuition – direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process.

This sounds Piscean. Ethereal (Neptune) truth (co-ruler, Jupiter).

Perception –  the way you think about or understand someone or something

This sound Mercurial to me.

Perception – the act or faculty of perceiving, or apprehending by means of the senses or of the mind; cognition; understanding.

This sounds Mercurial as well.

What do others think?

  1. Hi Elsa, i know i don’t talk here much, though i follow your blog all the time. i suggested going to a therapist but she said no, so i swore to her that i will call her doctor and remember his number. so i picked her up from the hospital and then stood by her door step and waited for her till she came home. then we went upstairs and had a cup of tea. irene im not rascist. steve said things he didn’t mean because he felt unworthy and i was on my own.

  2. Elsa’s right, people make up their own meanings for words nowadays… I think the difference between perception and intuition, is somewhat a matter of hardware vs. software.

Perception is sensibility based on your hardware- your eyeballs, the nerve endings on your fingertips, the information that you receive through your hardwired senses! You may or may not perceive the color blue, a bitter taste, or loudness. This is your brain making sense of the information received through your body’s own chemistry. The word can be used a little more loosely in terms of cognition, but I think this where the meaning comes from… Definitely Mercurial, whether its your hands or your mind.

Intuition is a sensibility that comes from gut or your heart, or your previous experience. Sure you might have intuition about a person you meet on the street. Or if you have been working in the construction business for 30 years, without any hard numbers you could probably intuit how much a new septic system would cost just by looking at a site! It’s an educated guess. You’ve learned things in your life, and like software it’s always running in the background. The more experience you gain, preferably of good quality, the more fine tuned your instincts become, and the more you can trust your intuition.

That’s how I define those words 🙂 I don’t have my rulership book with me right now (the one by Rex E. Bills), but it would be fun to look up some different keywords on this topic.

  3. I think of pisces as the most intuitive sign because I use the second definition. Scorpio seems more of a good detective. Intuition is truth or knowledge that comes to you without judgment or emotion, yeah the second definition.

How does the water sign Cancer fit in

Intuition is to me more visceral, in the body sensation that is not a reaction to anything. It is almost as if thought is not involved at all.

Perception is to me more reactionary (to whatever is in my face) and it usually involves thought.

  5. I agree with everything said here.
As I see it: – intuition is knowledge that comes from inside you – it’s the truth no one else has influenced – your truth. I also see it as Piscean.
Scorpios also have great intuition but it is usually combined with all sorts of other knowledge.
Perception comes from the outer layers of your mind and is managed or influenced (manipulated, even) from the outside.

  6. Well, when I say I perceive things in such and such a way, it means I am adding something of my own in perceiving.
