Interpretation of North Node in Sagittarius or the Ninth House

Gemini is all about information. And it doesn’t matter if that information is false, or only half true. Gemini energy runs the gamut from books, articles, newspapers, the internet, and even papers. The information life is what Gemini is all about, which is why South Node in Gemini has such intellectual prowess and stamina. South Node in Gemini is all about the human thought form. Everything from expressing thought on paper, through the mouth, or through a stereo. Freedom of expression, speech, and articulation is the name of the game.

Gemini is the messenger of the zodiac, just think of its ruling planet, Mercury. Anyway you can connect to human beings, intellectually, is Gemini’s M.O.. Just make sure you don’t bore them when you read your letters, news, newspapers, or emails. South Node in Geminis have a lot of these traits. They are restless people, easily bored, and want to deliver their messages, fast! In past lives, or earlier in this one, they explored the extraordinary world of the intellect, they devoured everything. They wanted to learn, read, watch, listen, be entertained, and sucked in every type of newspaper, magazine, news outlet, comic, movie, radio, TV, and iPad, available. They were explorers and nothing was too ‘out there’ for them. This would explain why Geminis can jump from one thing to another. They wanted to explore the world, everything, and be everything. In short, they are mutable.

South Node in Geminis also tend to explore the trees instead of the whole forest. They may visit many trees yet neglect the rest of the forest. In past lives, they tended not to stray too far from their neighborhood, state, or country. South Node in Geminis love to explore, but they don’t have much interest in going farther than where they are. That is because Gemini rules neighborhoods and short trips. In this life South Node in Geminis are learning to reach farther out than their neighborhood, supermarket, or their small town.

There is a hesitancy in two South Node in Geminis I know who don’t like to travel far, and who don’t have much interest in expanding their environmental setting. One of them was bullied horribly as a teenager, so perhaps this played into him not wanting to go out a lot, and doing new things. The other is one of my sisters; she can show a true lack of interest in exploring outside of our small town (the one I used to live in, in the Midwest), and have limited interests outside of her surroundings. These two people aren’t bad people, they will give you the coat off their backs once they become close to you. But they’re not people you would want to invite to a trip overseas to Japan. They would start complaining about how their feet hurt, or how finding a hotel is such a drag. They just prefer to stay where they’re familiar with, and not travel further.

In this life, North Node in Sagittarians are learning to explore more things, especially what is in their eyes, exotic. The first South Node in Gemini friend may one day travel to a country halfway across the world. A lot of South Node in Geminis were born, or grew up, in small towns. Those who desire to move towards their North Node may have a desire to explore things outside of their cities and towns. The desire here is to see if there is more to life than what they have known all their lives, or have experienced. Life is more than just what you have read in books (Gemini), it’s also the atmosphere, energy, experience (Sagittarius), and wisdom, you get from getting out of your comfort zone (s).

What may seem mundane to one person may seem exotic to another. For example, McDonald’s may be mundane and ‘everyday’ to the average American, but to someone who has traveled from Vietnam to America, it’s exotic. There aren’t many McDonald’s in Vietnam. Perhaps some North Node in Sagittarians will become extremely adventurous, like Ernest Hemingway, a fellow North Node in Sagittarian. He traveled the world and sailed the sea.

This exploration might lead to a sense of wanting to look at the bigger picture of life. North Node in Sagittarius wants to move away from the detailed, but unorganized, small picture, of Gemini. There is a need here for expansion and to try new things. Mentally adventurous, North Node in Sagittarius desires to explore the systems of the world rather than the microscopic and factual.

Don’t be shocked if North Node in Sagittarians start to explore politics, studying the big systems that can make up a whole country and/or nation. They might desire to ponder the systems of business, or big business. They might analyze the national school system of the country they live in. Religious organizations, such as the Vatican, and belief systems around the world, will intrigue them. Anything big, systemic, and expansive, is in their front view.

Meaning and Truth

One thing North Node in Sagittarius truly wants is to search for meaning, or meanings, in things. Their South Node (in Gemini) can pertain to imperfect information, disorganized information, codes, data, and information about, and for, entertainment. Gemini does relate to real facts too, it’s just that facts aren’t the only type of information Gemini is related to. Thus, in this lifetime, North Node in Sagittarians will have the opportunity to put together information, usually small pieces of the puzzle, that add up to big pictures, that gives them a sense that the small and big systems are interconnected. Perhaps everything is connected.
Sagittarius’s search for meaning isn’t interested in frivolous, meaningless, or surface level, information. The sometimes meaningless thought forms of Gemini is now giving way for a search for deeper truths, philosophies, systemic connections, and meaningful causes and effects. South Node in Gemini wants to know the ‘why’ of life. Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? And how does that system connect to that other system? There is now a sense that everything is interconnected and works in tandem with each other. Does that mean that there is an even bigger system in nature, or the universe? Even Mother Nature has its own patterns and systems.

Faith

Being that Gemini is ruled by Mercury, anxiety can be a source of discomfort for these smart go getters. South Node in Geminis can have a sort of anxious outlook about the world, which the world, and universe, is a random place, that logic is the only way of being, and that they have to rely only on their individual minds. In past lives, or earlier in this one, South Node in Geminis had habits of being close-minded with things that are out of logic, or common sense. And these habits perhaps fed into their anxiety that they couldn’t be optimistic and look at situations in a different way. They didn’t seek meaning, so now they are being asked to see if there is meaning in the universe.

North Node in Sagittarians want to find a philosophy, or belief, that they can rest their heads on, so that they can make it through, especially mentally, this random, and ‘meaningless’, universe. They are inclined to find a way around their individual, ego, mind, so that they can be more optimistic, have faith that things can work out well, and that life isn’t just random coincidences and/or accidents.

Perhaps they see only the trees, neglecting the whole forest, or they at least fixate on the chunk of trees that is around one tree. Maybe a delay in traffic wasn’t just a delay in traffic, but ‘the bigger picture’ protecting them from the car accident they will drive by ten minutes later. They are not being asked to drop common sense, or logic, they are being asked to integrate those things with optimism, faith, a search for meaning in a situation, and see order in the world, and nature.
North Node in Sagittarians are just people who are looking for more than what’s in their backyards, individual minds, and books. Perhaps past the borders of their neighborhoods, cities, towns, or states, is the real world experience and ‘knowledge’ that they so fervently craved. Maybe they’ll obtain more than just knowledge, but wisdom.

  1. My son has his North Node in his 9th house.

He absolutely loves school. I enrolled him in preschool at age 4.
I taught him how to read and he was reading three letter words at age 3 and writing them at 4. He spoke in complete sentences at 2.

My son took school as seriously as a CEO takes business. He would cry on the last day even in high school and he was always ready to go back 2 weeks before. He also has Pluto conjunct his MC and Uranus conjunct his Ascendant so that may have something to do with it as well.

My son got a full scholarship to college and he studied abroad in Europe. He worked at a presidential library as an archivist and he can tell me all about books and what they are all about when we visit a bookstore. He now works for a non profit and teaches people who have been formally homeless or who have lived isolated lives how to understand and use technology. He told me a beautiful story about one of his clients throwing the school and staff a Christmas party and that she prepared all the food herself. She got up and recited a Langston Hughes poem from heart. My son was absolutely amazed and awestruck by it all and asked me, “Who is teaching who?”

Please forgive me for bragging about my son. I do so because I failed 10th grade because I fell into a depression and quit going to school. I never believed in myself and never envisioned a future. I tried to go to college but my old demons kept haunting me and my self esteem was in the toilet. Sometimes I even attracted stalkers in class and school was never a safe place for me. I was told that I would never be able to raise a child properly and that I should give him away to someone who could. When I tell him now about all the struggles I faced due to complete non involvement or encouragement from my parents and how neglected I grew up, he just shakes his head in disbelief and sorrow. Nobody ever told me I was capable or smart. I made sure that I told my son as soon as he could talk that the world was a better place with him in it. Because I knew damn well how important it is to all people to be told and shown that they matter. Hope is a seed that must be planted and nurtured.

9th house Pisces Moon conjunct Chiron in my natal. When I took
my son to school and if we saw a kid who was obviously struggling late and did not appear to want to really want to get to school, I told my son “That was me!” I never, ever sugar coated anything.

Don’t just be proud of your son. Be proud of yourself
I’m sure your son is humbled by the fact that, despite your situation, you made damn sure you lifted your son up so he would have a better life.
If that’s not the purest love of a mother for her son, I sure as hell don’t know what is

  2. My husband has Sagittarius North Node, and this description fits. He has taught for many years in the Humanities.

I also know a third North Node in Sagittarius. But I didn’t want to make my writing too long.

“My husband has Sagittarius North Node, and this description fits.”

That’s good. I felt I kind of was a little looser with this one, I guess the NN in Scorpio one really made me tense!

  3. Using equal houses, the node assignment fits perfectly for me. I have SN in 3H and my core stellium in 9H (NN-Sun-Mars-Merc – I am driven to communicate!).

Much of what you have outlined fits me to a T.

    “Gemini is all about information.”

My nickname is Info Lady. Need I say more? 🙂

Another nickname was The Word Lady. Because I specialize in terminology. Semantics. Using the right word. (It was a valuable skill in my former field.)

“In past lives, or earlier in this one, they explored the extraordinary world of the intellect, they devoured everything.”

As a child and teen, I used to average one book a day. I would pick a shelf at our local (small town) library and read everything they had on a subject that interested me, or by a certain author. Needless to say, I was happy as a pig in slop when I moved to a Big City with LOTS of libraries and bookstores!

“Geminis can jump from one thing to another.”

That’s me. Always had (and have) more than one book (article, etc.) on the go at any given time. (Uranus as chart ruler adds to this. I’m in and out, in and out!)

“Gemini rules neighborhoods and short trips. In this life South Node in Geminis are learning to reach farther out”

I can find sources of utter amazement and awe in my own “back yard”. But I also scour the world for gems, usually via Internet because my finances do not allow otherwise. Definitely have always been shooting for my NN.

“North Node in Sagittarius wants to move away from the detailed, but unorganized, small picture, of Gemini.”

I have amassed over the past decade a massive amount of “details” (historical research). I now need to bring it all together (into a series of books).

“One thing North Node in Sagittarius truly wants is to search for meaning, or meanings, in things.”

I have long sought meaning. Sometimes I find bits of it. Mostly in terms of “small things”. But mostly, my quest has failed… so far. Especially in terms of the “Big Picture”.

“Their South Node (in Gemini) can pertain to imperfect information, disorganized information, […] Thus, in this lifetime, North Node in Sagittarians will have the opportunity to put together information, usually small pieces of the puzzle, that add up to big pictures, that gives them a sense that the small and big systems are interconnected.”

Yes, yes, yes! As mentioned, I have the makings for a number of books (9H) from the mass of details I have accumulated (3H). And I am coming to see more and more connections between my various books.

“Sagittarius’s search for meaning isn’t interested in frivolous, meaningless, or surface level, information. The sometimes meaningless thought forms of Gemini is now giving way for a search for deeper truths, philosophies, systemic connections, and meaningful causes and effects.”

Yes, and I drive (most) people crazy with this! A plate of spaghetti is never just a plate of spaghetti! 😀

“South Node in Geminis can have a sort of anxious outlook about the world”

That’s me! I have zero fear of death. But I am utterly frightened of, and by, life. (Natal Saturn square my core stellium adds to this.)

“North Node in Sagittarians want to find a philosophy, or belief, that they can rest their heads on, so that they can make it through, especially mentally, this random, and ‘meaningless’, universe.”

Pluto currently transiting my 12H is helping on this front. (This Pluto transit has been squaring my NN stellium.)

[North Node in 9H] Maybe they’ll obtain more than just knowledge, but wisdom.

That is EXACTLY what I am hoping to gain from completing my books: wisdom. The knowledge acquired along the way is but a means to the end: wisdom.

Thanks a.h.! This has been another very, very useful chunk of info (haha! I said info!!) that hopefully I can turn into… wisdom!!! 😀

I hope you finish writing those books! Personally, I think NN in Sagittarius is one of the most fun North Nodes to have!

The weird thing was, Ernest Hemingway might have overdid his North Node in Sagittarius. He was too adventurous. I guess you really can OVERDO your North Node lessons, or do them in the wrong way, altogether!

      1. Mine is in LIBRA 9H so I think the Libra keeps me in check… I’m pretty good at weighing things so that I don’t fall into the OVERDO trap (too often), although I fersure feel the pull to go go go!

    1. anonymoushermit

I can’t believe there is only 3 more Nodes to write about! I started this series around August of last year, if I were to remember right.

Thank you! It’s hard to write about an aspect in astrology, and trying to make it as close, and exacting, as possible.

      1. You’ve done an EXCELLENT job of it!

Someone has just come back into my life and I’ve done chart correction on him and although I can’t be sure I’m right, I’ve come up with a NN in Virgo in 5H for him. I will have to look up what you wrote and see if it fits him.

Thank you for the generous gift you have given us here.

  4. anonymoushermit

“the quest to embody this larger purpose eclipses the rest.”

You really want extra credit points from the universe, don’t you? I’m just jesting. Glad you’re heading towards the North Node, for at least 50% of people, it’s hard.

  5. I don’t have a Sag NN or Gemini SN but I do have a Jupiter/Neptune conjunction in my Scorpio 9H inconjunct my 4H Gemini Mars. I have a lot of the traits you just described. I’ve always been a bookworm and I enjoy putting together life’s “puzzle pieces.”

  6. I have a Kite Grand Air Trine with SaturnR conjunct SN running it. ( NN Sag opposing SaturnR conjunct SN H12). The Grand Trine is formed between Sun Conjunct Jupiter Aqu-H7, UranusR Libra-H4 and SaturnR conjunct SN Gem-H12).

With NN Sag Indeed I have itchy feet all the time, changing jobs just to be relocated and to explore new places, I’ve done a lot of travelling abroad. I get bored easily and I feel free as a bird( I don’t want to be attached to any person or places). But somehow I have that sense of “it was meant to be”, I had to be out there. Definitely SaturnR is responsible for?

I am just an amateur interested in astrology….

  7. I have a Kite Grand Air Trine with SaturnR conjunct SN running it. ( NN Sag26°48′ opposing SaturnR conjunct SN H12). The Grand Trine is formed between Sun Conjunct Jupiter Aqu 24°27′-H7, UranusR Libra 27°42′-H4 and SaturnR conjunct SN Gem 27°58′-H12).

With NN Sag Indeed I have itchy feet all the time, changing jobs just to be relocated and to explore new places, I’ve done a lot of travelling abroad too. I get bored easily and I feel free as a bird( I don’t feel the need to be attached to any person or places). But somehow I have that sense of “it was meant to be”, I have to be out there. Definitely SaturnR is responsible for?

There are 2 squares to the Grand Trine:
    – Sun conjunct Jupiter is squared by Moon Scorpio19°22′-H4 opposing Mars Taurus22°30′-H10;
    – UranusR is squared by Venus Cap25°48′ conjunct DSC opposing ASC Cancer27°25′.

I’m in my 40s and all I can say is this : All in all I feel very protected and lucky person and all my life is still driven by an external force and I have just to be out there to say yes, and go on explore life. I still get insights way before everything is going to happen. Definitely Scorpion Moon and SaturnR are responsible for? I am just an amateur interested in astrology….

    Thanks so much.

Hi, I’m curious to know how or who did you learn astrology from?
Also, having an aries ascendant makes all of my signs fall in their house does this make their lesson or meaning stronger? Such as having my north node in sag in the 9th house?
I believe it to be my souls purpose to be a karmic astrologer, but it can get overwhelming at times teaching myself.
    Thank you!

  9. Thank you so much for this article. It is the most detailed, thorough and insightful I have read on the subject. It has helped me to see where I am, and still want to go, in my journey through this life as a being with the North Node in Sagittarius.
