“They say that Astrology is the mother of all Sciences. You should know then that Mundane Astrology is the first Astrology that was practiced. In Mesopotamia where the astrologer priests went up in there ziggurats every night to see the night stars and the dance of the planets they would stand in wonder at the night sky and behold the movements of the heavens…”

Book Review: Venus, Her Cycles, Symbols and Myths by Anne Massey - Review by By Janice Brown

Janice Brown - Enjoy!

Marielle“Sometimes it takes an event like the Autumnal Full Moon that was so startlingly bright it outshone any earthly light to remind us how visible the planets were before electric lights changed our civilized world.

Our lost connection to the stars remains agelessly alive in our cultural myths, dreams, and in the case of Venus as Anne Massey explains in her book, the planet’s patterns described by the ancients are repeated in all the forms we call beautiful’. Ancient stories we hold dear, the petals on roses, the divine proportions symmetry of a face that attracts attention, the entwining DNA strand, or the origin of the pentagram which is a very real symbol transcribed by Venus’ cycle continuously in our sky…”

“Two lovers experience an erotic re-awakening during a during a tumultuous astrological phenomenon.

Is the person I’m with who I thought I’d be with forever? Is it actually the person I want to be with? And am I really happy?

No, it’s not World Navel-Gazing Day. These are the sort of questions one might ask oneself every 29 1/2 [fix in indesign] years, when Saturn completes its orbit around the Sun - and returns to the position it was in when you were born. According to astrology, for some this means life may need to be seriously re-evaluated…”

Book Review: What Next: A Survival Guide to the 21st Century by Linda Schurman

Mary Plumb reviews A Survival Guide to the 21st Century by Linda Schurman for the Mountain Astrologer

SchurmaLinda Schurman has maintained a private practice in astrology for more than 34 years. She is also a studious observer of the larger world stage, including domestic and global politics, climate change, financial markets, and social justice.

What Next? A Survival Guide to the 21st Century is a concise book that addresses the daunting issues of our time. This book is clearly written for non-astrologers. The specific astrology in the text is minimal; however, the author offers an educated view of the challenges we all face. The information, though directed to the general public, provides a timely and useful context for the concerns that clients bring to practicing astrologers every day.

GLADIATOR: Film Review by Liz Greene

Liz Greene writes:

film_glad3The opening sequences of Gladiator, with their violence, cruelty, and display of the might of a ruthless war machine, may well seem shocking and offensive, not to mention glaringly politically incorrect, to an astrologer more concerned with spiritual and psychological development. Films such as What Dreams May Come might seem far more suitable viewing. Where, one may well ask, is the spirituality, let alone ordinary human compassion, in a Roman commanding officer whose objective is the utter destruction of a recalcitrant tribe?
