Tomorrow, Mars in Gemini will square Neptune. This spells “gaslighting” on one level which is a subject I like. Here is an old post on the topic, and you can click the tag for more.

I almost never come across a book this good. Though it is rated 5 stars in 4 reviews on Amazon, I think it’s pretty scarce. They did not have a copy in the Denver Public Library system but I was able to borrow if from Denver University Library and I was surprised when I got the copy because it was written in 1996 and appears to have never been read.

Just the title should have sold this thing, you’d think. Gaslighting, the Double Whammy, Interrogation and Other Methods of Covert Control in Psychotherapy and Analysis by Theo. L. Dorpat so I will leave others to explain that and just tell you this is an extraordinary book.

The soldier and I on the phone…

“Yeah.”

“Well I wanted to tell you something about that.”

“Shoot.”

“Well, my hip is killing me. It really hurts. I have a bad SI joint, do you know this? I think you do,” I said knowing he read my other blog (silently) for three years and pretty sure I’d written about it about some point. “In whatever case, it’s acting up big time. It’s throbbing. It hurts like hell which means I have to go get another shot. I get the thing shot with a steroid. Lilly followed up: “ditto to MahEggo’s answer…I know right away when they DON’T like me…”

These comments fascinated me because this has been a hot topic in Elsa world here lately. I also know when people don’t like me and sometimes it’s straightforward like that. But frequently I meet people who don’t like me but don’t know it! And I am wondering if other have experienced this as well. I was chatting to a friend, just completely frustrated and this came out:

“Well the guy hates me, this is the problem! And I have no idea why he doesn’t know it. I suppose I could tell him, save him staying up late at night trying to figure it out. I could say, look guy. You don’t like me! That’s what is going on. I bother you. This is why every compliment you give me is wrapped in an insult. This is why every insult is wrapped in a compliment. And I would just as soon speed this up! How about we fast forward to the part where you go off hating my guts because you already do. And I don’t mind that, but I am sick to death of the tiresome bother of waiting for you to figure it out!”

For the record, I chalk this up to my 8th house (people get triggered) and my Saturn Neptune-ness (people project). And I’ve got to the point where I am truly tired of starring in people’s psychodramas.

I remember doing psychodrama when I was in therapy about fifteen years ago. You have to stand there and look menacing like someone’s father. ::smiles:: I never liked it. I don’t want to play pretend. I want to be myself and I assure you I am not your oppressive father or your devouring mother or any other damned thing! And back then, I just wanted people to hurry up with their problem so I could go home!

And recently I realized when I find myself in something like this I can hit the kill switch myself. There is no need to allow someone to work it out on my time. And there is no harm done, because as soon as you cut the energy to the hologram, the person wanders off and finds another person to project onto, usually within a day! What a revelation.

Can anyone relate or am I on my own here?
