Summer Sun In Leo! Shiny, Shiny, Shiny!
“Here comes the Sun; here comes the Sun, and I say, it’s all right.”
–The Beatles
The Sun is in its own sign in Leo. Ego is in the sign of ego, shiny and creative, life affirming and warm. The term “ego” sometimes gets a bad rap but a strong, healthy ego is the backbone or heart (Leo) of a strong, healthy personality. The transiting Sun illuminates everything it touches. They say there’s nothing new under the Sun, but sometimes it brings things to light in new perspective.

The Sun And The Father
Ward Cleaver: Beaver, you know what Larry was doing was wrong. You could have stopped him.
Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver: Gee, Dad, I have enough trouble keeping myself good without keeping all the other kids good.
I often talk about the Moon and the mother. That’s a pretty clear relationship in my mind: Moon=Mother. I am female, after all, and a mother myself and understand these things through experience. What about the Sun, though, and its link to the father? The Sun resonates to the ego self, but also the father. The Sun rules the 5th house, children, creativity. In the biology of procreation the father plays a role equal to that of the mother.

Expressing Your Aesthetic
“Listen with your eyes and sing everything you see… Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue, you can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow too.”
–Arthur Hamilton, “I Can Sing a Rainbow”
Our individual aesthetic, our personal concept of what we find pleasing and beautiful, is represented in the chart by the position and aspects of Venus. How we express our aesthetic can be seen through Mars (how we act), Mercury (how we sense and communicate), the ascendant (Mars-ruled, expressed in our body and affect) and the descendant (Venus-ruled, what we find attractive when expressed in others). Though the 5th house is sun-ruled it shows our creativity and how we express who we are. Creativity draws heavily on the natal aesthetic. The houses where your sun and Venus reside flavor this area as well.

The Sun And Self Esteem
“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.”
— Joseph Campbell
Elsa’s previous blog on Neptune really got me thinking. If you don’t have a strong internal locus of self-value, if you don’t believe you are worth receiving good treatment you will accept poor treatment. Neptune energy can allow one to deceive themselves about what is happening in reality. If your self esteem is too permeable to the opinions and actions of others, if you base your worth on what they think, feel and do rather than on an internal value, what YOU think, feel and do, then you are at their mercy. If you are at their mercy you can be prone to telling yourself stories, spinning the truth (Neptune) to suit what you wish to be true.

All this Aries stuff has been in my 8th house and I’ve been feeling a little dark. I had all my emails forwarded to a crevasse at the bottom of the ocean where I was staying with some very hospitable creatures who have yet to be documented by science.
And then suddenly, as of Taurus Time! (trademark pending) I’m feeling a little more optimistic, a little more energized. The Sun is now in my 9th house.
There’s still a huge string of activity tralling my 8th, But now it’s like I (me, the sun) am up shore looking at shadowy videos from an experimental research vessel rather than down in it.
What house does the Sun rule in your chart? Do you feel a difference when the Sun moves into a new house/sign?
Intro to Chart Reading – Beginners Workshop Series
In Review – Brush Up on Your Skills.
Satori and I are starting another class in the Colosseum. That’s the private message board that we use for workshops, special events and such.
This one is going to be a 3 month extravaganza of chart reading as each chart is treated as a performance piece with the owner as the star. Chart submission is voluntary but totally worth it.
You not only get a reading from one of us, but the chart will be open to members of the class for comments. In the end you get a full spectrum of readings from multiple perspectives. Plus you get to give your opinions of other charts in the class as well.
Just so we’re all on our game, I’m posting a Review of our Intro to Chart Reading Workshop. This will give you an idea of what we like to do while you brush up on your skills.
8. Aspects continued – Sun meets moon.

What Signs Am I Supposed to Get Along With? by Nota
Your Basic Astrology Questions Answered
I’m a Leo… I am interested in a Pisces, a Gemini, a Libra and a Sagittarius. Which one do you think I will get along with the best? Or should I look for someone else? What signs am I supposed to get along with?
-Leo Guy
This is a very common beginning astrology question. The querent often thinks he or she is asking an innocent question regarding compatibility. What they do not realize is that this line of questioning, when presented to a thoughtful and honest astrologer* will lead them to the precipice of a new conception of astrology.
*excuse my personal bombast, my progressed moon is moving into Sagittarius

Rising Signs vs Sun Signs at a Party!
“One girl is a streetwalker, but her feet are so soft…”
Jerry Riopelle
This relates to the Astrology of a Person’s Energy in a Room theme. I wrote this in 2002 on my original blog as part of another series, “Astrology In Not Flat”. I was trying to explain the difference between a person’s ascendant and their sun sign. Here it is:
You can consider the ascendant, it’s sign and it’s aspects as a person’s veneer. Say you’re at a party and you see someone who appears accepting to one and all. A non-judgmental sort. That same person leaves the party and once in the car they let loose with a barrage of scathing criticism of everyone in the room. Well, well, well. What have we here?

What’s the first thing you pick up on when you meet someone, astrologically speaking?
The textbook answer is the rising sign, but in practice that’s not always the case. The rising is what we put out for other people to see, it isn’t necessarily what get’s noticed first though.

I was bent over in the hallway after Yoga class, putting on my shoes. The Scorpio guy comes up and says:
“I so wish you had been there this weekend.”
This is the same Scorpio guy I told you about before. He’s the only guy in a class full of women. The cock in the hen house.
“Oh yeah?”
I havn’t looked at his chart, but I can tell you this… He’s got a HUGE ego. He’s telling this story not so much because he wished I was there but because he wants to tell me where he went. That’s fine with me. I enjoy a good road story.
