The Astro Mom And Dad Game
“That’s the way discussions go down in this family. I tell them my needs, and they say no. Then dad reveals another cartoon character he’s afraid of.”
–Malcolm in the Middle
Archetypically, in addition to other things, the Sun and Moon in the chart resonate to the roles of father and mother. Our arrival in the family and the energy of our Sun and Moon draw out certain things from our parents. Talk about the law of attraction! Our very being draws out similar energy in others. Sometimes the positive manifestation and sometimes the negative. In our Moon sign we can often see a broad-stroke painting of the way we were parented by the mother. The same can be said of the Sun and the father. This also works with step-parents. Now we just have to figure out how to make this into a drinking game.
Can you see this association with your Sun and Moon and your parents?

The Sun And The Father
Ward Cleaver: Beaver, you know what Larry was doing was wrong. You could have stopped him.
Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver: Gee, Dad, I have enough trouble keeping myself good without keeping all the other kids good.
I often talk about the Moon and the mother. That’s a pretty clear relationship in my mind: Moon=Mother. I am female, after all, and a mother myself and understand these things through experience. What about the Sun, though, and its link to the father? The Sun resonates to the ego self, but also the father. The Sun rules the 5th house, children, creativity. In the biology of procreation the father plays a role equal to that of the mother.

Mother And Child: The Moon
“My mother loved children. She would have given anything if I had been one.”
–Groucho Marx
The Moon in the natal chart signifies our emotional body, the way we relate emotionally. It is personified by its sign, house placement and aspects. These are all reflected in our emotional nature. The Moon is the archetypal mother figure. For most of us our first emotional relationship was with our mother or whoever filled that role for us. The condition of the Moon reflects our emotional experience of the mother and colors how we approach relationship in general. We are deeply affected by how “successful” we felt in that first relationship. Each individual Moon processes input differently as the nature varies from sign to sign. What works for one Moon does not necessarily work so well for another. How we integrate the feelings about our relationship to our primary parent has a great impact on our feeling of competency in relationship in general.

The Moon And Your Childhood
“I see the moon and the moon sees me.”
–Unknown
The moon can symbolize the mother, your mother, your own parenting style. The moon loosely represents the feminine and more pointedly how we feel. So it’s no surprise it’s representative of how we feel about the parenting we experienced as children. It’s no surprise because it makes sense. How we feel in general shapes how we feel about everything. A Saturn moon is going to feel differently than a Jupiter moon. A 7th house moon will have a different experience than a 12th house moon.

Looking back now….. By The Virgo Avenger
Just a male Virgo’s point of view; # Twenty-Eight
Looking back on your childhood, do you ever wonder how you lived? I’m not talking about what our parents did to us, but what we did to ourselves.
For example, my friend and I decided it would be fun to play cops and robbers with pump pellet guns. Now we were smart about it, we agreed to pump it only once. Any way I have a scar just below my eye…..Think about it.

The Worm Farm by The Virgo Avenger
Just a male Virgo’s point of view; # Twenty-Five
When I was eight my parents, with their vast wisdom, decided to buy a 10 acre worm farm in Bakers Field, California. As you might have guessed from previous articles on my parents, they did not care how we felt about losing friends, our changing schools in the middle of the year, in fact we were told about 3 days before it was to be, “pack your rooms, we are moving.”< Continue reading The Worm Farm by The Virgo Avenger
Pluto In Capricorn: Shadow Side Of Parenting Redux
Astrology in real life
When I asked for people to weigh in on the path of least resistance, it was because I was thinking about children of divorced parents or perhaps parents who were never married. I think it’s a majority of children who grow up with their parents divided at this point the results or effects of this are pervasive and beginning to show themselves.
I’ve been dancing around this topic for a year now – the shadow side of parenting – making the claim that parenting is “broken”. I have feel this is the case and have strong opinions about it but it’s difficult to write about because it’s so easy to trigger someone(s) defenses as people are so heavily invested in this one way or the other.

I came about this thinking in a strange way. Recently I had contact with 2 people who lost both their parents when they were very young (pre-teen). This is not that common and the effects have got to be pervasive but also very personal to the individual. That means if you want to understand it you have to talk to someone who has suffered this and my guess is they don’t get much chance to talk.
In whatever case, I had a thought during one of these conversations. I thought about a boy who grows up to be a man and goes out and does all this achieving to “prove something to his father” as they say. What do you think happens to the boy who has no father to prove something to, hmm?

Saturn, Capricorn And Long Term Consequences
Astrology in real life
The opposition in astrology is the one most intriguing to me. A year ago I was reading about how Uranus was going to trounce all over Saturn and rolling my eyes. The planets were in opposition and the old man was supposed to get his ass kicked I guess. It made no sense to me outside of the fact people have their bias and their blind spots.
