Astrology And Literature: Jane Eyre Vs. Elizabeth Bennett, Cage Match!

“The note was imediately dispatched, but the rider was met with a group of freshly unearthed zombies on the road and dragged off to his demise. The note was dispatched a second time with more success, and its contents as quickly complied with.”
–Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Seth Grahame-Smith

cage matchCurrently there’s a thread on the boards asking which do you prefer, Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre? I like them both very much but have a definite preference for Jane Eyre. Charlotte Bronte wrote Jane Eyre and Jane Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice. I’ve read more than one book by each and my impression is that Bronte expresses Venus Pluto with a side of Saturn while Austen is more Venus Saturn with a side of Pluto. So I got to thinking, does the actual astrology support this?

Astrology Today – Jean Valjean

August 3rd, 2008 @ 3:30 am by Elsa

My eye on the sky

les-miserable.jpgThe Moon in Virgo is besieged, caught between Saturn and Mars. The best advice I have is to work very hard at something. If there were ever a day to put your shoulder to the wheel, this is it.

Think of Jean Valjean on the prison ship in Les Miserables…

snape.jpgA reader writes:
“Are our most beloved literary characters beloved because they correspond to the universal purpose of astrology? Last summer, in the midst of Harry Potter mania, I saw a list someone had compiled of the various birthdays of the characters. They all seemed to match very well. For example, I couldn’t imagine Snape as anything but a Capricorn. And would Harry be “the boy who lived” if he wasn’t a Leo?

My latest book is Anne of Green Gables. While listening the other day, and hearing the imaginative, dreamy ramblings of the main character Anne, I told myself that I would be shocked, shocked if she were anything but a Pisces. Within 5 minutes, the Anne character said that she had just turned 11 in March. More likely than not that the character is Pisces.

I think that the characters we love most resonate with the unconscious knowledge that we all have about what traits are believable. What do you think?

little-match-girl.jpgReading over the post about the path I didn’t take and it seems I wrote it in more code than I intended.  I was talking to a pal an hour later and made it a lot plainer to her.

I told her the soldier told me some outrageous tales when we were kids.  They were outrageous but somehow they were (possibly) credible.   They were possibly incredible too but in whatever case there was no way to completely discount him. It was just not possible to say,  oh that will never happen. I couldn’t say, oh he’ll never do that because he was just too serious of mind plus he knew too much and had too many details.

This meant to sign on with him was to commit to a destiny that was daunting and went way beyond Special Forces. Special Forces was just something he felt he had to do but as this story comes together in my mind, I recall he never said he would or wanted to make a career of it. Perhaps he just needed the skills he would pick up there so he could apply them to achieving his real ambition? It is beginning to look this way to me as all the threads are beginning to weave themselves into something recognizable.

anne of green gablesAnother thing that happened this weekend, the soldier and I got into a fight. It was unfortunate but y’all know this happens and he’s got a new way of trying to deal with me.  A Mercury in Aries way this is.

He says my abstract thinking is hard for him to fathom as is my “writer” language. He thinks I overstate things, using words like “heinous” and “horrific” which he feels do not suit the situation at all.

Most unfortunate for him, this very tendency of mine loops him in tighter because it is Anne Of Green Gables speak.  Recall she is always in the very depths of despair… and you know the soldier likes Anne.

little match girlI never finished writing about that mammoth fight the soldier and I had on our “Little Match Girl” weekend. (Little Match Girl who smacks of the Plantain Girl)

That was also the weekend we discussed my ex-boyfriends club and I just got Jupiter-ed out on that I guess. The story grew out of bounds but I was reminded of it today when I was writing the soldiers’ son.

I was trying to make a point and it became necessary I recount the story of the blond girl – the blond girl who was bothering the soldier in the motel laundry as he tried to wash his truck driving clothes.

As a matter of fact she was doing things with her “unmentionables”, as he called them. Not knowing I existed, she was displaying them for him and he was becoming increasingly flustered.

trading-soaces.jpgToday I did something inordinately weird, I watched a TV show with the soldier.  I don’t remember the last time I watched a TV show but I can tell you it’s been years.  We watched “Trading Spaces”.

Now I have never seen the show before but assume it is the same each week. A young couple was fighting to they were to decorate a room in the other person’s place to see if they were or could be compatible?  I don’t know… it was something like that but anyway the man had a female roommate who clearly did not want the relationships on the rocks to recover and I pointed this out to the soldier.

He was pretty fascinated with my interpretation of things so he continued to ask me questions and eventually I just kept up a running commentary that sounded like this:

venus mars synastryI have heard (and agree) that if you pay attention the first time two people meet, the whole relationship can be told. The energy between the two people mixes that fast and here’s an example.I just found out I was yelling at the soldier on our second date as well. We met for about 10 minutes, I left then sent my roommate to invite him to dinner 10 minutes later.

2 hours after that he was at my apartment eating dinner and 10 minutes after that I got pissed off and kicked him out of the apartment.

Astrology, Destiny And Your Roll Of The Dice

April 1st, 2008 @ 9:43 am by Elsa

Ask the collective

roll-of-dice.jpg“I don’t mind being compared to her (the Little Match Girl),” I told satori. “I get it. There is no telling what is going to happen to me. Anything could happen to me, this must be obvious to people wouldn’t you say?”

“No, it’s not obvious. I would not say it’s obvious. You’re more like the elephant people have a hold of in the dark and they’re trying to figure out what it is.”

“Oh. Oh……..:

“Do you know the analogy?”

“I do. Well, crap. Okay so it’s not obvious. But it is obvious to me. I feel like I am a rogue wave and there is nothing I can do about. Things just keep happening that just don’t happen to other people and I can’t believe it will ever stop.”

“No.”

“Well there has to be a reason and we don’t know what it is.”

Do you have a sense of your destiny? What’s it like? Can you see this in your chart?

I can see my life plain as day in mine. I don’t know what I would do without astrology. The chart is like landed dice… there it is – that’s the roll. It’s enorm
