I was talking to my friend, Ben, the other day. He was telling me about a man he’s known for about 20 years or so. This man compares himself to others.

Apparently he was born to privilege so he’s never had to work. Ben said he’d done nothing all his life but look at others and feel himself superior.

“I don’t know what is going on, P. They say I have to take this test. I don’t know if it’s good or bad. I don’t know if they are pulling my leg. They said I was a 5 tool employee.”

“5 tool employee? What is that?”

“Hell if I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s good or bad or what it is. I walked in there and they were all saying, this is the soldier…. this is the man of the hour. I don’t know what I did or didn’t do but they want me to take this test and bring it to them.”

“Hold on a minute,” I said, typing into google. “Okay, well it’s good. Here is what a 5 tool employee is,” I said reading the following:

“…You are hugely loved, but research does tell us that we hang on to the negative more fiercely. Would like to invert that!”

Natasha, thanks. I did not know about the research but feel pretty good about copping to this. I know a lot of people would think I need adjusting on this front – I have been told so many times. But I am not sure that inverting the situation would be the best tack. Leave it to Capricorn to see the upside of the negative but you know what happens to people who believe their own press.

As it is I exist in a (thin) soup of negativity and every once in awhile something grand penetrates and I wind up feeling like the boy in the image (my favorite image of all time). That is some glee, no? I know that feeling and I mean I knooooow that feeling.

Compare access to that kind of glee to someone strutting around full of themselves and I will take “me” any day of the week. Never mind it keeps me working rather than looking in the mirror which I’m pretty sure is better for the soul… at least Henry always thought so.

Do you lean towards arrogance or humility? Do you like it that way?

At some point last night I figured out the soldier’s son was smarter than the soldier and I and it was unnerving for a second or two. But then I realized we were still okay due our access to the metaphysical world. Astrology in my case, and the soldier has got his things… his way of being.

These things provide us unnatural or supernatural knowledge so we can still show up, plus while he is definitely smarter than either of us, I am not sure he smarter than the two of us put together.

Is this cool or what?

We each have our thing that is undeniable and deserving of respect. Even more importantly, we’ve got enough sense we can see the other person’s thing and step out of the way of it and there is a lot of glory in this. The kind of glory that humbles you.
