Have you ever noticed yourself being more or less critical of things depending on your mood?  I like to watch movies.  Neptune is prominent in my chart and I can easily get lost in them. Particularly when the acting is good, I have no problem overlooking flaws such as implausibilities in the plot. Basically if a director wants to take me on a fantasy tour, I’ll go.

There is no debate that Virgo is a critical sign. Whether this is a boon or a bust for people who interact with them depends on the Virgo. For example, I work with Virgos (The Mechanic and HQ). They are both critical thinkers with keen minds and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to run my ideas through their filter.

Virgos are efficient and can save you a lot of time and pain. The have the ability to catch your errors on all levels and provided you can bear this, you’ll be helped and often tremendously. I realize there are people who want to make their own mistakes but there are circumstances where mistakes are costly. For example you don’t want to print a million copies of something that contains a typo so in a case like that, it’s foolish not to run your copy by a Virgo.

On the other hand, I have definitely met Virgos who are absolutely insufferable. They can’t go three feet without criticizing you (or themselves) and they feel all pristine about it too.

What are your experiences with Virgos and criticism?

Re-run for Saturn’s transit through Virgo. This is from 2008, in response to the comments on Weighing Negativity. Because, hey. Life in not a marshmallow.

This is a Saturn in Virgo situation anyway you turn it. I am defending (Saturn) against criticism (Virgo). Publicly (Saturn)! Hopefully people who do this kind of thing will see themselves and learn (Saturn) something about criticism (Virgo).

Here is piece on the first Virgo who does not like my hair. Here’s is today’s critical comment on one of my youtube videos:

“I find your thoughts so scattered”

And my response?

I find people who use the phrase, “I find” to lack creativity and the ability to come up with their own speech patterns. I also find them pretentious sounding and the idea they are oblivious to this indicates they are probably not as smart as they think they are.

Next?

When you make videos (particularly about astrology) you leave yourself open to all kinds of abuse but today was the livin’ end for my Venus in Leo when a Virgo dropped by one of my videos to ask, ‘Don’t you ever brush your hair?”

I responded, “Er… no”.

Because matter of fact I don’t even own a brush but what I wanted to say was this:

“No, but I got laid last night and obviously you did not.”

Charlotte asks during a discussion on the “Splainin’ Myself” blog:

“…it is more like challenging someone. Isn’t that (reportedly) a good thing? Saying to someone, “I know you can do better” isn’t the same as “You must be more like this or like that” is it? It’s a fine line I suppose, where one can make you evolve and grow whereas the other makes you feel like crap.”

Charlotte – Assuming the person has not asked for feedback, I don’t see the difference between these two approaches. In both cases you are imposing your judgment and your priorities on the other person which to a person like me feels like a pure assault.

I have had to traverse some pretty difficult terrain in my life and I am at it again. I have to say I feel like a very high level human being at the moment but that Saturn in Virgo is something else. Talk about critical!

I am under extreme stress but if there were ever a time I might be required to think and communicate to the best of my ability, this is it. This is the Olympics for Elsa… I swear I don’t think anyone else on this planet could do what I am doing now, in fact it is beyond comprehension; however I am vividly aware that I have trained for this all my life.

With Saturn in Leo hopefully you defined (Saturn) your creative self (Leo) and Saturn’s transit through Virgo will force edits. I am already noticing this big time.

For example I have gotten several emails advising me on the new videos, do this, don’t do that. Today’s comment on the story, “The Soldier and the Lesbian,” forced me to define (and defend) my writing. How Saturn in Virgo is that?

I also had some gal write me with scathing criticism about the blog in general. And while the beating was completely unnecessary and unwarranted, the point she made was utterly valid and I am going to act because of it.

So this is the job and my early impressions are this: People are going to tell you (or try to tell you) what to do at work. Some of them you should no doubt listen to. In other cases conforming would be a big mistake which leaves you to learn (Saturn) to discern (Virgo) who is who and which is which.

But if you do this successfully (and I think eventually most of us will) you are going to wind up with more command of your creative product… of your VOCATION than you could muster or manage any other way.

Anyone else notice themselves being nudged towards editing their creative output?

Dear Issues,

It is clear that you have problems and need help beyond what I can offer in an advice blog. But perhaps I can give you some clues that will send you in the right direction.

First, you have no separation with your family. I don’t care if you traveled around the world and thought yourself independent: you carry their energy. The way I like to put it is, you have swallowed them whole. They live in you.

If you question this, go look in the mirror. Whose eyes are those? Whose eyebrows? You can see the physical manifestation of this, and I assure you this merge with your family takes place on other (all) levels.

So using this analogy, you can comb your (inherited) hair however you want. You can dye your hair or shave your head… but you can be sure that when your hair grows out, it’s going to be what? It is going to be your family hair. And you cannot escape this even if it is horribly disturbing to you.

And having Libra and a packed 7th house, I sure you want it to be them not you.
And having Aquarius rising I am sure you want to see yourself as an individual.
And having your Sun conjunct Neptune in Sagittarius, I am sure you want to be a high-minded spiritual sort.

But the fact remains, you have your family’s energy. The only way you are going to be able to resolve your problems is by understanding this, accepting and integrating it… so that ultimately you can have command of it and I’ll give you an example.

It is well and widely known that I was raised by a criminal and in fact I am not an innocent. I cop to having inherited a criminal mind and I use it on a daily basis to write this blog… which I feel is a high-minded service.

You can do the same with your family’s negative energy… but not until and unless you acknowledge you have been passed this baton.
