Yesterday I had to turn down a client for a consultation because I just didn’t feel I could deliver what she wanted. This doesn’t happen that often but it does happen.

The person may want some form of astrology I know nothing about like horary. Sometimes they want me to time things like a wedding, and I refer those people too. Sometimes people want me to apply techniques to their chart that I don’t use or don’t like and I refer those people as well.

This led me to thinking about what I am well-suited to and I have come up with this short list:

Invariably the person is a strong Jupitarian. They are a guru you could say. Sometimes they are a authentic guru / teacher / preacher or sometimes they just think they are or they should be but in whatever case they see themselves bathed in light and nothing else and they contact me for a consult.

I don’t do this with slower moving folk and I am amazed at my own ability to adapt. I think it has to do with the Neptune effect. I just merge with the energy of whoever and let it rip.

I wonder if other astrologers have rituals when they do consultations, I know I do. It’s a bit of a terror to do this kind of work, at least it is for me. I know I can read a chart but that is hardly enough. You’ve got to be able to communicate!

I am very aware that the client is relying on me to make something happen in the time allotted. They want some value for their money and I almost always do but not without some hi jinks! I do have some things I do to insure the client gets the best I can offer.

“I have really strong contradictory impulses towards acting erratically and change vs. reliability and lack of change in my relationship life (& my chart). I’ve hurt a few important people in my life through this and am starting to despair that I can ever resolve it….without doing something radical like an open relationship, which I really couldn’t handle either.”

I chose this problem because while I didn’t know what the chart might look like, I think it’s common people are ambivalent when it comes to relationship. This sounded like it may be an extreme case and I thought if it was, it would serve the collective because when you see someone further out on the continuum then you are it becomes easier to recognize your similar issue. This just seems to be a quirk of human nature.

Can you call me and does it cost more?

Yes and no. I am happy to make the call as long as you’re in the US – I have unlimited long distance and no preference one way or the other.

If I consult by email and it takes longer than 30 minutes what happens?

I always stay within the time allotted. About 75% of the people get what they want or need in 30 minutes, the others want to buy more time and however they want to do it is fine with me. Some buy another 30 min or an hour. Others just want me to do a little more work so in those cases I just prorate the fee. In other words, if it takes me 7 minutes, I bill you for 7 minutes. I don’t mind this, I kind of like it because I hate wasting time, mine or yours.
