Intro To The Composite Chart by Satori

“Most people would have found it grotesque, but when you’re in love nothing is so abstract or horrible that it can’t be thought of as cute.”
—David Sedaris, When You Are Engulfed in Flames

Maxfield ParrishI find nothing so compelling as love. It is the subject in which I am most able to lose myself in a drug-like (or tv-like) state of bliss. While synastry is the best tool for assessing how individuals interact, there is something fascinating about the idea of a chart on how they merge. The composite chart is the chart of the relationship itself. It is a chart made from the melding of the two individuals’ birth charts, made by plotting the midpoints of each placement. Instead of the comparison of two individuals we are looking at the chart of a third entity, the relationship itself, which only exists in theory.

Composite Charts, Synastry and Personal Taste by Nota

Real Conversation

This is a continuation of my conversation with my friend with the 12th house Venus.

“Do you see it?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Isn’t that cool?”

“I guess. I’m not really into composites.”

She is having me look at yet another composite chart between her and some “dude” she met at a bar.  the “it” she wants me to see is a grand air trine.

zodiac game horoscope

I am learning about how people relate and I didn’t mean to, but I came across the name, John Gottman who is a psychologist who wrote among other things, The Mathematics of Marriage: Dynamic Nonlinear Models.

This guy studied relationship in an effort to be able to predict who would divorce and who would not with very limited data and he came up with a super effective formula. He claims that if he can can listen to a couple talk about *anything, for an hour, he can predict with 95% accuracy if they will be married or divorced within 15 years. If he listens for just 15 minutes, he can still predict this with 90% accuracy.

The Purpose Of A Relationship: The Composite Sun Through The House

September 8th, 2010 @ 5:05 pm by Elsa

Ask the collective

Omie started a thread about the composite 6th house Sun which inspired this post.  I thought it would be interesting if people who were partnered noted the house of where the Sun falls in the composite chart with their partner along with a sketch of how it manifests.

The composite sun shows the purpose of a relationship, where the people shine, where vital life energy is expressed. Not surprisingly, my husband and I have a 8th house composite Sun.

Ask The Collective: Are You Abstract / Spiritual Or More Scientifically Minded?

March 29th, 2010 @ 8:33 am by Elsa

Astrology in Real Life…

From 2007:

“We’re opposites, P”,  my husband said.

“You think that? I don’t really think that. I think we’re very similar. How are we opposites?”

“Oh, well you’re abstract. And I’m… I don’t know the word for it. I’m scientifically-based I guess you’d say.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah. I’m a scientist and you are a spiritual person.”

I didn’t say anything because I thought he had it backwards. But then again…?

Are you abstract or scientific?
Are you sure?

Composite Charts vs Individual Charts And Reality In Relationships

February 21st, 2010 @ 7:23 am by Elsa

Astrology in real life

roman soldiersI am getting ready to work on this gal’s chart and this may be simple but it struck me. While I think composite charts are useful and do describe how two people combine, they never, ever trump the natal. That is, regardless of the composite chart, the individual will never cease to be the individual and I can use myself as an example.

My husband’s chart is harsh and obviously so. His life is relentlessly hard and while my chart is intense as hell, I would not call it harsh in the least.

Our composite chart is a fortress, it is at least somewhat “harsh” and more than anything, it is a contract you can’t get out of and to a freedom-loving person like me this is oppressive.

Synasty vs Composite Charts: Updated And Enhanced Conclusions In 2009

Addendum to Astrology of Relationships: Synastry vs Composite Charts, Mars Square Mars, Grand Crosses and Other Frights

Need to catch up? Part one

I promised an update to the Grand Crosses and Other Frights series and this is it.  I was in a relationship with a grand cross in the composite, followed by a relationship with a grand trine in the composite.  The 2nd relationship was far more pleasant and this was all I could note at the time.

This brings me to a point I have been meaning to make – Nothing substitutes for experience. You can read until you are blue and it is just not the same as living. Point is I was writing from my experience at the time and now I have more experience.

aquarius metal signIt was a conversation with another astrologer that prompted these blogs. He wanted to know which method I preferred and I like both.  But there are some things that can’t be accounted for via traditional synastry or looking at a composite. Like for example, what’s up with me and all these Aquarians?

This is my sister on this subject, about 13 years ago. We’re on the phone chatting up the charts of my soon-to-be inlaws:

elsaamfcompositechartI’ll tell you how this second composite chart works out in the world in real life. For one thing when I first met, The AMF he was seeing a therapist. He attached to me  very quickly which upset her. I think she had a little crush on him because she had no problem with him meeting women he didn’t like. ;-)

grand crossI had a terrific time getting out of the relationship with the composite grand cross which was unusual because I am as slippery as they come. I am like Houdini with a jet ski waiting when it comes to leaving a relationship but I could not find a way out of that one to save my life, up until the time I did. I don’t know what to say besides I’ve been happy since and I think I’ve learned my lesson.
