Pisces Moon Spotlights Hodgepodge in Horoskop by Deirdre Tanton

There’s a local little newspaper around the corner from where I live where I do freelance layout sometimes. There are articles about local politics, or which church is getting new bells, and if the University plans to renovate or move. Most pertinently, though, there are also weekly horoscopes, and I was curious about them.

On my first day at the newspaper, I sneaked a peek at the “Horoskop” file and found 52 weeks worth, each sign having three sentences, all neatly laid out on one big page. The weeks in Germany are commonly assigned a number, and right now, in case you don’t know, we are in Week 34.

Calling All Astrology Bloggers: Update On The New Astro News

August 5th, 2008 @ 3:58 pm by Elsa

Outtakes and Various other sundries

gerbil.jpgGreat news (especially for me) on the new Astro News. We found a way to get all the feeds to work which is a great relief because I have been trying to keep up adding them manually like some kind of crazed gerbil. I am loading the feeds now and should have everyone in there by tomorrow so if you are posting and now having your headline show up near the end of the week, please email and let me know.

Now many of you know the Top 10 Astrology News came back up unexpectedly, the same way it went down. I am greatly relieved because it represents and ungodly amount of work over the last 2 years. So it is going to be there (as far as I know) but will be morphing into a collection of astrology blog headlines where the Astro News will be what Top 10 was… a very robust and often updated source of astrology-themed content from all over the web courtesy this gerbil, Elsa P.

Jacqueline Bigar On The Solar Eclipse, August 1, 2008

July 26th, 2008 @ 5:29 am by Elsa

Outtakes and various other sundries

jacquie04a.jpgI don’t mind telling you that I love Jacqueline Bigar. I love her upbeat personality, her humanness, her candor and her depth. It pays to remember she’s been prominent in astrology for years so you can just imagine all the bits she’s collected from here and there and everywhere. She sets an example for me in that she is such a giving and generous spirit. If I grew up to be just like her, I don’t think I’d mind.

Once More Chicken Little Time. A Solar Eclipse

Jacquie writes:

“As most of you read astrology blogs, it is no news to you that on August 1, we have A Solar Eclipse. A Solar Eclipse is like a New Moon, sun and moon in the same sign. Because this eclipse is in Leo, I suspect there will be a fair share of drama to those who experience it on their chart.

Solar Eclipses are different in many ways from Lunar. I was told by a wise astrologer who taught me astrology that one needs to eat a lot of sun grown foods the day before and the day of the eclipse. Think oranges.. Energy is often an issue as one could feel depleted. if that is the case, don’t push. The above comments are applicable to anyone in a Solar Eclipse…”

Astrology And OCD – Astrology By Kingsley

July 25th, 2008 @ 6:00 am by Elsa

Outakes and various other sundries

beckham.jpgAstrologer Kingsley (frequent commenter on the Elsa blog) credits Venus not Virgo with OCD type behaviors. check out his spin:

Obsessive Compulsive Signs

Kingsley writes:

“In some Astrology circles the sign of Virgo is often labeled as the obsessive compulsive. The Virgo temperament can be described as critical, analytical, perfectionist and meticulous. Obsessive Compulsive personalities traits extend to all the astrological signs and surprisingly enough Venus is an indicator. With Venus being predominant in the charts of actors and artists it is not surprising to find Hollywood types with OCD…”

bernadette_brady.jpgDeterminism within the Practice of Astrology – Conducted by Bernadette Brady as part of doctoral studies at Bath Spa University, UK with regard to their thinking on determinism – Fate.

“A central tenet of astrology is that something is written at the moment of a birth or a moment in time and place and some component of this moment has a bearing on the future. In this survey, this component, which astrology explores via horoscopes, is labeled the “fate” of a person’s life or the “fate” contained in a moment in time.

It is often assumed by non-astrologers that astrologers believe that one’s entire life and life decisions are dictated by the “stars”, yet no one has actually asked astrologers about their ideas on fate, destiny and freewill. Thus your answers are important as they will go towards building a concept of fate (or determinism) as used in 21st century western astrology.

Therefore I thank you in advance for your contribution to this project…”

What do you think? Fate or free will… and in what proportion?

donna cunningham pluto problemsHeather M wrote on Thoughts Contrary To The Opinions Of Other Astrologers:

“I like how contrary you are.”

Yeah, well I think I am going to lose some friends over this so not too cool. I have already lost a lot of friends during Pluto’s transit of my 11th house. I have lost a slew of them and with Pluto’s retrograde transit back into Sagittarius, I am hoping to survive with at least a few pals standing.

This is a dilemma for me because I don’t think it is possible for me to compromise my integrity and I may or may not be able to keep my mouth shut. One thing for sure, people get heated over these things and the last friend I lost during this transit, well it was over something just like this.

I lost a 9 year friendship I valued very much because we just did not agree on something we both felt very passionately about. It may sound stupid. You don’t dump your friends over a disagreement but when someone takes a contrary stand against something very near to your heart there really is no choice. It is sort of like not liking my kid. If you don’t like my kid or if you don’t like my husband I am going to have a very hard time having you in my life.

So anyway, I will take the contrary position if I must but I want to be damned sure what is driving me because it is damned sure going to cost me.

libra womanI’ve got this Pluto Moon transit going and all kinds of things disturb me. For example, I mentioned last night the soldier and Vid and I rode our bikes / skateboard to the store but I did not mention we passed by the place where my daughter was hit by car on her bicycle last year.

My daughter actually hit the car not the other way around, as 4 witnesses stopped to testify to the 4 policemen on the scene. The whole thing was surreal… my daughter was shook but not injured and I was in fact liable for the damage to the gal’s car if you can get your head around that but anyway, I am also disturbed due my contrary opinion where I actually mean “opinions”.

Astrology, Science And Skeptics – Vedic Astrology: Michael Shermer vs Jeffrey Armstrong

May 27th, 2008 @ 5:40 am by Elsa

Outtakes and various other sundries…

From Radical Films – Vedic Astrology: Michael Shermer vs Jeffrey Armstrong

“In a scenario set up to debunk astrology, Jeffrey Armstrong completely outshines Michael Shermer in a way that any scientist should say is “statistically interesting.”

And…

“…The kicker. Two of the nine, unbeknownst to Jeffrey or the subjects, have their charts switched. Accuracy rating drops to 38 and 21% respectively. Switched back to true charts, accuracy goes to 94 and 92%.”

Great showing, Jeffrey Armstrong and thanks for Copper for the link!
