What Makes A Good Astrologer?

Michele with another provocative question on the wrong birth data piece:

“You didn’t go to school to learn to read charts, did you? what are the traits that make a person good at it?”

Michele – I started studying with my sister when I was 8 years old (she was 10). I went to a few classes, seminars or workshops, 20 years later when I finally got to town but other than that I have essentially no formal training at all.

As to what makes a good astrologer, I have no idea.  I think I am an excellent consulting astrologer due my ability to communicate and my extensive experience. I can definitely tune you up but I can’t read a horary chart to save my life.  I can’t elect a date for a wedding, predict the weather, the stock market or the price of gold so depending on what you’re in the market for I may be good as they come or absolutely worthless.

  1. I guess what makes a good astrologer would vary depending on what sort of astrology the study or are good at.

But being grounded is *totally* essential. No “woo-woo” new agers who won’t make a move without an ephemeris.

And Aquarian energy is traditionally considered good for an astrologer. But I am totally biased about that.

  2. What makes a good astrologer?

A good question: good at what exactly? I’ve known some nice people who couldn’t read a chart, some not nice people who couldn’t read a chart, some not nice people who could read a chart, but their not-niceness made it useless, and so on and so forth.

I can definitely tune you up but I can’t read a horary chart to save my life. I can’t elect a date for a wedding,

Neither of these are difficult, particularly the electionals. I’m sure you are perfectly capable of doing both.

I may be good as they come or absolutely worthless.

That’s why it’s an impossible question.

  3. I think the answer would be different for each person/client/student, Elsa.

I think the ability to communicate well, in writing, speech or both is as essential as vast technical astro knowledge experience. But then, what is good communication for one person doesn’t always work as well for another.

I suppose the ability to communicate on several levels might cover it. That takes empathy too, sufficient to sense how best to communicate with each person.

  4. So many things are important: sensitivity, interest and a certain knowledge of how the human being works, personal and communicational skills…

  5. I have noticed that usually when you meet someone his/her chart is the reflection of your own spirit at that moment.

That is why you usually meet people first of all in order to learn about yourself.

Today I had 2 consults and both girls had the same problem…as I.

I didn’t look at their chart. I just asked myself: how do I feel, what am I thinking about right now, what is my problem right now then I talked to them as if I was talking to myself. It worked.

For example one had a lot of expenses due to many weddings this summer: exactly as I.

I finally looked at their chart: it was reflecting my spirit at that moment.

This means that being a psychic is easier than being a good astrologer: ask yourself how you can be helped and then you will be able to help other people.

Well this is my point of view:)

    Cheers
    Monica
