Death & Irony

Some months ago, we were considering replacing the roof on our barn. One of our neighbors does a lot of work for us. I asked him if he might be interested in this job. I got a text back, “No roofs”.

It’s nine months later, now. A friend is interested in a house near here. My neighbor knows a lot about the area so I texted to ask if they knew anything about this particular house.  He did.

Turns out, it’s the man’s uncle’s house. The brother of the man who sold us our house.  Apparently he was a bridge builder. He worked on suspension bridges…walked ‘cross beams all the time.  But then one day he was up on the roof of his house; a house he built. He was checking for damage after a storm.

As he was getting off the roof onto the ladder, he fell and broke his neck. He died three months later.  No one could believe it.  He had so many chances to fall and then he falls from a roof?

What do you make of things like this?

  1. Unbelievable! it was his time to go and the way he went to the other side,- Lady Muerte has a lot of sense of humor. May be it was his request to her to take him in his house or above…in any case not in bed. Lady Muerte is femme fatal – extravagant one.

  2. I read where a man who owned his own very successful roofing company was overseeing the roofing job of his dream house under construction. He tripped I think, falling backward off his own roof to his death.

The inventor of the Segway motor scooter accidentally rode his own Segway over a cliff and died.

    Ironic, don’t you think?

  3. I’ve seen things like this: I really don’t know. These are secrets of life I think and they make me very curious. IS there actually a answer to find? Is it a kind of law? Is it psychic? What makes something “yes” and someting “no”. And sometimes I think that life is like Russian Roulette. But also often I believe there really are Guardian Angels. The only thing I am sure of is that I have the deepest respect for all of this. What makes people do things they do and what happens to person: what is the difference. Whow: one question like this gives so many more questions!! 🙂 🙂

  4. Practically speaking, his skills were probably incredibly sharp when doing heights as part of his daily work.

Whereas when he checked his roof for storm damage, maybe he was overconfident about skills that had declined a bit. Especially as it wasn’t relatively that high off the ground.

Nonetheless something ironic about the story!
