OCD and Sexual Repression: Scorpio Rising, Mars, Mercury, Venus in Aries

September 23rd, 2006 @ 3:57 am by Elsa

Dear Elsa

I’m in my last year of university, but I feel it’s hard to move forward to what is next in my life. Ever since I’ve been 15, my sex drive has been non-existent. I remember it was very strong for a bit, but I felt very guilty about it and the feelings I was experiencing. Some of them were unacceptable to me – so much so that it gave me tremendous grief.

One day I just stopped feeling the drives though, and since then I have been going through life without them. I have OCD symptoms, but I do have Scorpio and Pluto prominent in my chart which could just be me wrestling with my subconscious and with my ego. I want to move forward in life in regards to relationships, but doctors and counselors seem to have few ideas. I’m also tremendously sensitive and have a Piscean like compassion for others, even strangers, and I’m not vindictive or aggressive like a typical Scorpio. Could this be me being out of touch with my mars energy (sex drive)?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Scorpio Rising

aries ram horoscope cupDear Scorpio,

Your question doesn’t really fit the format of my blog as it’s akin to a personal reading. Further, your issues are obviously complex and probably not well suited to being addressed on advice blog.

However I am going to answer your question anyway, because I feel for you and because your chart strongly interacts with mine and leads me to think I may be able to help you which I think you strongly deserve. So I’m just going to talk straight and my editor can look the other way for a day.

On the thwarted Mars energy, my position on this is very clear. Repress your sex and anger (Mars) at your own peril and in your case this is especially the case. For one, you’re a Scorpio rising, so Mars rules the chart. Nothing is more important to you than Mars! And the rising is your physical body, so when you fail to express your Mars, your body is getting jacked beyond belief.

Now consider your Mars is in Aries which obviously want to go, Go, GO and further, it is conjunct both Venus and Mercury… opposite Pluto and I have to say this is one hell of a motherfucker you are trying to suppress. And how do you think this is going to play?

It’s going to play where it sits, in the 6th house, for good or ill.

Use your Mars = excellent health. Repress your Mars and you’ll see it turn inward and eat you alive.

What do you think Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is? It’s 6th house (daily routine / the mind / Virgo stuff) run amok! Helllllo! You need to fuck! You need to fuck and fight and be heroic and you need to do this every day just to maintain your health. So let’s talk about what happened when you were 15.

15 is puberty, you know. That means there is a flood of hormones. And have you looked at the astrology back then? I did. And Uranus (experimentation) was squaring all that Mars mess in Aries. Comprendo? So apparently when those dogs got out, they went so crazy they scared the hell out of you – so let’s address that.

First, if this is something as simple as homosexuality, well for Godsakes get over it. You have plenty of company. There are legions of homosexuals out there who will be happy to have you join them, and if it’s otherwise?

So what? At fifteen years old, you think you’re the first person who ever thought of it. Well take it from a fellow Mars Mercury, okay? You’re not! And some of this taboo stuff… try it once. Face your big fear about it and what you find out is it’s not that compelling after all. You get it out of your system!

So here’s my theory:

You’re innately very sexual but there are still periods where things will flare. Like during a Uranus transit, obviously. Uranus wants to break rules! So unfortunately you encountered one of these times in conjunction with puberty which was akin to a “perfect storm” and you became overwhelmed.

And being sensitive somewhat puritan with your 6th house, you nixed this whole deal and you are now suffering OCD due the stress of repression with more ailments on the horizon, no doubt if you do opt to own this energy.

So there you go. And PS, not all Scorpios are aggressive and vindictive.

Good luck.

Depression: Scorpio Sun, Virgo Moon, Capricorn Rising

July 22nd, 2006 @ 4:33 am by Elsa

Hi Elsa,

I’m 32, female, and I have chemical depression.

I quit my last (horrible) job and moved back home so I could go to school full-time. I’ve tried all kinds of different medications since high school and nothing seems to “take.” I can get out bed and do mundane tasks but I never look forward to anything and I have no energy.

I want to be like other people who have goals and actually want to get up in the morning. I’m not in therapy because I can’t afford it right now and also because I’m starting to think that I’m hopeless. Do I have any hope?

Depressed in Texas

capricorn goat mountaintopDear Depressed,

Yes, you have hope. There is always hope. People pull back from the brink of hell allllll the time. Especially when they’re Scorpios! Or Capricorns like you, who astrologer Jayj Jacobs characterizes as “Scorpios in suits”. In other words, you are made of some serious stuff and I highly doubt you are going to go down and stay down.

That said, you do have very significant transits to your chart, so the thing to do is adjust your expectations. It’s like standing at the base of a tall mountain. You’re going to get up it, I’m sure. But not in a day! Or a week.

And I know what you’re thinking. “I can’t! I just want to get in bed and pull the covers over my head,” but obviously you are not going to be able to do that. With your Moon in Virgo, you are being pressured to fix this, and with the emphasis on Capricorn in your chart, the way you’ll solve this is by making a commitment to methodically solving your problems and embracing the idea that the process with be long and somewhat arduous.

That much right there will help your Scorpio Sun focus. Rather than waffling and debating what to do, you know the number one thing you need to do is to get your meds right. So put your feelers out. Use your spider senses to guide you… which doctor you might call that will have what you need.

See, I really think a commitment (Capricorn) to focus (Scorpio) on your health (Virgo) is the ticket. This is how your chart is set up, and once you start living in a way that is authentic… once you find the right path, the universe indubitably will send support. The doctor who gets your meds right will give you the name of the therapist who winds up helping you, etc. etc.

So hell yes, there is hope. And help! You only need recognize you’re not getting up this mountain without climbing and once you do that, your inner mountain goat will conspire with your Scorpio Sun and your health encyclopedia Virgo Moon, and you’ll be on your way.

Good luck.

Obese, Depressed and Addicted to Food: Virgo, Taurus Moon, Sagittarius Rising

June 26th, 2006 @ 4:44 am by Elsa

Dear Elsa,

I’m suffering so much inside, and I don’t know what to do, or what could be causing this. I am morbidly obese and have severe depression issues. I had a very trying young adulthood and now that I’m a mother and married, everything is just in shambles. My weight is holding me back from making friends and even looking for work. My depression is difficult to control. I’ve met with a therapist and psychiatrist who both feel I have mood problems, but no one really mentions depression.

I often wonder what I’d be good at or what direction I should look to in order to be able to control my food addiction. It’s like I know what’s best for myself, but I have hurdles I can’t seem to cross! What can I do?

Trapped and Restrained

fat man walkingDear Restrained,

You’re doing the right thing, trying to get help and you need to just keep it up. Keep pounding. Keep chipping at it and sooner or later a piece is going to fall away, which will lead to another, then another, then another. Over time, you can solve your problems, okay? So don’t you give up.

I am not sure what your status is with the psychiatrist or the therapist. You say you “met” with them, but are you in treatment now? Is someone caring for you? Trying to diagnose you? If not, get back in there. And you don’t have to wait for them to figure out you’re depressed. Speak up. Tell them you need help and you need it now. If you have trouble verbalizing this, write down how you’re feeling and bring it to your appointment. Do whatever you have to do!

Now you may need medication, I don’t know. But if I were you, I would get to moving around. Walk! Just around the block. To the end of your street and back. Take this small step and force yourself to do it. You have to start somewhere. People can help, but you have got to help yourself too.

With Jupiter and Pisces strong in your chart, you’ve got a lot of imagination, so how about you use it. For example, if some obese guy can walk across the country, you can walk to the end of the block, you know? Allow yourself to be inspired. Think about transcending. Think about being an inspiration yourself.

There is hope, okay? There is always hope. Just keep doing what you are doing… sincerely asking for help and I am sure the universe will provide it.

Good luck.

Stressed Out Scorpio With Health Problems

June 12th, 2006 @ 4:25 am by Elsa

Dear Elsa,

I am a 24 year old female. Over the past two to three years, I’ve have been developing baldness. In the past year, I’ve had high cholesterol, a deep vein thrombosis, and have been developing acne, etc., etc.

I do think all this is stress related, but I can’t reduce this stress because I think it’s natural. Any ideas?

Needs Help

scorpio broachDear Help,

I am assuming you’ve seen a medical doctor, since you know the status of your cholesterol. If this is an erroneous assumption, the obvious advice is to schedule a check up. But if you have been through all that and determined that stress is the root cause of your problems, then it’s time to address the level of stress in your life, and saying “I can’t” isn’t going to help.

I agree that stress is natural. So is snow! But this doesn’t mean you stand outside in it, until you are buried alive and frozen like a Popsicle. You’re supposed to walk inside, eh? And this is where you are at.

So what do you think? Are you going to act now, with the snow piled up to your hips – or is that not extreme enough for you, Ms Scorpio? What are you really doing here? What are seeking by allowing your life to become so out of control? An edge?

You know what? I’m not really worried about you. Your chart is very powerful. And when you’ve had enough of this experience, I expect you will act decisively to change your conditions.

If it were me, I would do this today. But that is because I am vain and like my hair. ;-)

Good luck.

Fighting Breast Cancer: Pluto Transit to Moon Pluto Conjunction in Virgo

June 9th, 2006 @ 4:25 am by Elsa

Dear Elsa

I have had a whirlwind two years. In May 2004, I broke up with my boyfriend of five years and in April 2005, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But now it’s June 2006, and I am still not over the boyfriend… and still battling this disease.

My ex says he wants to be with me, but I find his Gemini ways to be unreliable. And though I feel as healthy as I did before I was diagnosed, I fear the hidden workings of this disease.

Any advice on how to deal with both or either?

Thanks,
Fighting Cancer

virgo constellationDear Fighting,

To be honest, I’m not sure how qualified I am to help you with either of these things, but I’ll take a stab at it, okay?

What is common to your two issues is your fear. And I’ll tell you what your chart looks like. It looks like the chart of some powerhouse woman, with tremendous depth and breadth and everything else you could possibly want – in spades. And then, like an ink blot that’s been spilled, sits Saturn… the planet that signifies fear.

Now the way I read this, is when you give in to your fear… when you fail to control it, it basically disables the rest of the chart. The rest of you, that is. And this is not so smart when you’re fighting for life!!!

So what about the man? You call him unreliable, but he wants to be at your side while you fight cancer. That sounds pretty reliable to me. And I don’t doubt he’s a flake. We all are, at times. But let’s just say he flakes out on you? So what? What’s it going to do? Kill you? You’re fighting cancer for godsakes! You’ve faced death for real, so there’s no need to be afraid of a Gemini!

You also don’t have to be scared of dying. Because you’re either going to die… or you aren’t. And if you can get yourself thinking in these non-fear-based ways, I am quite sure you will begin to feel your power. And with Pluto transiting your Moon Pluto conjunction, your power is enormous – at an all time high, I’d say.

Now if it were me, I would call the boy up. But I like boys and I am weak! ::laughs::: You are strong, but I still think you should call him up, simply because you miss him. And maybe you aren’t over him because you’re not supposed to be over him. Duh.

But the main thing, is your fear. Saturn rules fear AND reality. So if you accept “reality” (any of us may die at anytime) it gives (healthy) expression to the energy. Fear is the negative manifestation and it will cripple you if you let it. Good luck.

Lethargy – Progressed Saturn Square Moon and Mercury

January 28th, 2006 @ 4:57 am by Elsa

Dear Elsa,

Am I doomed to a life without zest or passion? Every morning when the alarm goes off, I lie in bed hitting the snooze button, hoping I can stay under the covers for just 10 more minutes. It would be easy to blame this on my job, but I do it even on the weekends. This has been my pattern for the last few years.

And speaking of the job, I’ve had the same one for 10 years now. It is somewhat “creative,” but rewards are few and far between and I feel I’ve reached a dead end. I know in my heart that I want, need and deserve better for myself, but I’m scared to make a change.

I’m very blessed to have some wonderful friends, but overall, my social life is pretty lacking too. The problem is I don’t feel any real desire to spice it up.

How can I get more get up and go?

Thank you,
Tired

saturn symbolDear Tired,

Are you doomed? I hope not! I’m at a bit of a loss here. It’s always freaky when the chart in front of you is incongruous with the way a person presents. And I’ll tell you what. I believe the chart over the person.

This is not to say I think you are lying! Obviously you’re not lying. But your chart describes a high energy, optimistic, assertive, passionate, and creative person. And there is nothing going on as far a transit is concerned to cause this level of lethargy in a person with as much energy as you possess. So it leaves me to wonder if you are depressed. Are you depressed?

Wondering this, I took a peek at your progressed chart and sure enough, you have Saturn (difficult, depressed, fear) square your Moon (mood) and Mercury (your mind). That’s pretty hard core. And when something like this sets up in the progressed chart, it’s quite long-lasting.

If you do nothing, you will see some lifting in about a year – very slow progress, but maybe you should do something. I would. A “few years” is a long time to live in such a diminished way. It’s possible a psychologist or medication could help.

It’s also possible your thyroid is out of whack. That would be the first thing to check. Because an under/over functioning thyroid will cause every symptom you describe. So this is my advice: see a professional.

Good luck.

Can’t Stop Eating – Capricorn Rising

October 10th, 2005 @ 4:57 am by Elsa

Hi Elsa,

I’m afraid I’m going to lose my wonderful husband because I’m so overweight.

I worry that he’ll cheat on me, or just leave me. I’ve been badly hurt before and never thought he would marry me – or that he even really loved me.

I’ve put on a huge amount of weight since we got married. I never stop eating. My therapist told me to look into self-fulfilling prophecies. Maybe I’m convinced my husband will leave me and I want to prove that I’m right.

Am I doing this to my body on purpose?

Help!
Frantic Wife

capricornDear Wife,

You’re going to have to discipline yourself, or you’ll prove both yourself and your therapist right. But never mind you – what about your husband? Because if you prove yourself right, then he winds up losing the wife he loves!

Do you feel responsible yet? I want you to feel responsible to him, because I think this will help you enormously.

You know how they say you can’t lose weight for someone else? That’s probably true for most people, but with a chart like yours… I think this could work. See, I don’t think you’ll do a damned thing for yourself – but you will do almost anything for your partner.

Sound co-dependent? Well it is. But with a massive emphasis on the seventh house (relationships) and Libra (relationships) – your partner is enormously important to you. I suggest you exploit this. Motivate yourself by understanding that your eating is messing up his life.

And you can take this even further! I know, because I do it myself. I tell my man, “I am busting my ass at the gym, so I look good for you.”

I mean it too. I use his energy to motivate myself and we both benefit. I blather about this all the time. “I am going to look as good as I can for you,” I say.

See the commitment in that? The way I am taking responsibility? Those are Capricorn concepts. I am a Capricorn rising (as are you) and this is our stock in trade. It is our main gig. It’s what we are good at.

Right now, you are afraid you’re not good enough. You need to flip the switch, and make damned DAMNED sure you’re good enough. Start today.

Good luck

Mental Illness – A Virgo Worries About a Double Capricorn

July 1st, 2005 @ 1:00 am by Elsa

Hi Elsa,

My boyfriend of seven years was recently diagnosed with a mental illness. It wasn’t completely unexpected, but now I’m looking for some kind of reassurance. He is deliberately changing many of his thought patterns as part of his healing. Can we still be as solid as ever?

Wondering,
Virgo Girlfriend

Dear Girlfriend,

virgo beltI don’t think you’re going to have any problem at all. Now I’m going to tell you something you already know.

Getting a diagnosis like this is entirely positive. Putting a name on an illness does not exacerbate it. It makes it possible to get proper treatment and see improvement, which is exactly what I think is going to happen.

Your worry is just classic Virgo stuff. It’s what Virgos do, when their minds are bored. So let me give you something else to think about – maybe some astrology, since I favor the stuff!

Your boyfriend is a double Capricorn, which means he’s ruled by Saturn. Saturn means he’s supposed to be responsible! And guess what? He has a Saturn transit to his Mercury mind coming up here pretty quick. Saturn transits force you to take responsibility – they’re all about control and boundaries. Getting this? He needs to clutch it up and take responsibility for his MIND.

This is all unfolding right on schedule. He’s going to be fine and so are you. You want to help? I know you do – you’re a Virgo. Then understand he’s scared. He’s scared to death. Anything you can do to alleviate this will be enormously appreciated. The best thing you can do for a Capricorn is make them laugh.

Good luck

Weight Loss

June 15th, 2005 @ 12:00 am by Elsa

Hi Elsa,

I have been carrying a lot of weight on my body for many years. I can’t seem to take it off anymore. My problem is motivation and inconsistency with exercise. Any suggestions to help me move into a phase where I am treating myself and my body more healthily?

Help!
Burdened

Dear Burdened,

JupiterplanetYeah, I can help. You have the planet Jupiter sitting right on your ascendant (your rising sign). The ascendant shows the body and Jupiter expands anything it touches. Consequently it’s very common for people with “Jupiter rising” as it’s called, to be large.

However, you’re not doomed and I can tell you this for sure. I have Jupiter rising myself, and I’ve beat the weight thing (knock on wood!!)

Here’s the deal. We are optimistic people with our mind on the future. You know. Tomorrow is always going to be better than today. And Jupiter is not keen on limits. It’s not about exuberance: more is better! And in fact, we’d be fine if other parts of us were not interested in fitting in our jeans. We’d just grow and grow and grow. But alas, it becomes a problem.

But it’s a problem that can be solved pretty readily. You only need understand the energy you embody that seeks expression, and redirect it. Like a person who is very insightful. They can use their talent to heal, or to hurt. Same with Jupiter. This energy can do a hell of a lot more than grow your body.

For example, you are a natural teacher. If you teach and preach all day, Jupiter will be engaged and you won’t be eating.

Secondly, you’re a horse. A wild one! And what does a wild horse look like? They sure as hell aren’t fat. They’re on the moooooooove. Move. If you get yourself moving, you will not be eating. Get it? Because Jupiter is otherwise engaged.

Third. Travel!! Travel is Jupitarian because it expands you. Go places! Every day! What does a wild horse do? It gets around. It sees what’s over the horizon and over the horizon beyond that. Is eating the focus? Of course not.

Last. READ. Educate yourself. Specifically religion and philosophy. This is another way to expand, yes? And when you’re smarter, go back up there to the first idea and do what? TEACH! Teach others.

So there you go. This is you… if you opt to function on a higher level. Fat is not in the equation is it?

Good luck

Nervous and Frightened

June 7th, 2005 @ 12:00 am by Elsa

Dear Elsa,

For the past six months, I’ve been worried I was HIV positive. I finally took an AIDS test, and came out negative. I have doubts though, because I still feel very sick. I’ve consulted the doctor about my bad health, and he said that it is due to my unnecessary anxiety.

I’ve been so worried; I’m failing out of school. I feel like I’ve disappointed my parents so much, and that my life has been destroyed.

Will I end up becoming the man that I want to be? Or will I end up becoming a loser?

Signed,
Feeling Ill

Dear Feeling Ill,

Virgo-BrianI don’t know what you’re going to do with your life. You have free will. But I can give you a very good idea what will fulfill you.

Your chart is almost entirely Virgo and Pisces. When you have Virgo or Pisces in your chart, then it’s very simple: you will serve, or you will suffer. When you have a chart like yours, where the emphasis on these two signs is overwhelming… well there is nothing more to discuss.

Now I know this is very bad news if you were born in a culture where achievement on a material level is valued, but too bad. If you take the smallest step towards embracing this idea, you will quickly align, simply because it’s RIGHT.

All these health worries stem from Virgo energy gone awry. The doctor is right. Keep it up and you will literally worry yourself to death. How about refocusing your energy, hmm? Because I promise you this. If you get up in the morning and asking yourself, how can I help someone today – you will see immediate relief.

Now here’s the good news. Today’s good deed is done and I want you to recognize this. In writing me and allowing me to publish your angst, others are served. Can you see that you threw yourself up on a cross here? You did. So take the rest of the day off, okay?

But tomorrow, another good deed. Keep this up and I think you will become far more than the man that you want to be. You will become the man that God wants you to be and at that point, it really doesn’t matter what your parents think.

Thank you for posting. Much love
