Astrology Today: January 3, 2013 – Surprised By Joy

January 2nd, 2013 @ 5:00 pm by Satori

Joy is not a substitute for sex; sex is very often a substitute for Joy. I sometimes wonder whether all pleasures are not substitutes for Joy.”
― C.S. Lewis, Surprised by Joy

JoyThursday the morning Moon in late Virgo squares Venus in Sagittarius and applies into opposition with Pallas Athena. It is otherwise unaspected and for most of the day makes no major aspects before leaving the sign, a void of course Moon. Pallas supposedly doesn’t count in this regard. How sad for Pallas, unseen in Pisces. What this creates, however, is a standoff between wants, needs and ingrained patterns. Over-analysis can lead to a sour stomach. Stop that. Go read something, pick up a book or listen to something calming. There’s magic in there somewhere.

Later in the day the Moon slips into Libra for a lightening of the heart, the opportunity to find balance. It applies into a kite with Jupiter and Mars in air, Uranus opposing in fire. Jump start that heart and find balance in action. It will feel… innovative and surprising. There’s a new way to go.

A quincunx from Neptune eases the transition. You can bliss out on momentary pleasures or you can look for the higher love, the divinity, and then bliss out. What is true love, a higher love? You’ll know it when you feel it. It will surprise you.

This sounds so right… a friend sent me this youtube video, and I really experienced a sense of joy while watching it this late morning on the west coast — truly surprised by a moment of unexpected joy and harmony:

Trying to remember when I was last surprised by Joy! That would be nice though =)

Saturn is SUCH a pain in the ass =/

For some of the bad rap that Neptune gets, it really can be a kind and gentle planet. I think of a really smart friend I had who said some years before he died, “At our age, if it doesn’t get any worse, it’s a good thing.” I think that’s realistic! There is a relief in realizing that your horribly high stroke level blood pressure is more important than the stupid job that you have and are about to be layed off from due to cut backs . . . Mr. Capricorn was suddenly Joyous! having realized what was most important. Maybe I’ve got the wrong planet here, but whatever . . .

Here it is Saturday morning, and the alignment opportunity for joyful surprised probably passes. But after a Saturn night like I had, I need, want and celebrate Neptune. “Transcending is a wonderful thing.” Geez, pour the waters of Neptune over me.
@Gegenschein … thanks for your story. I’m ‘at that age’ too.
